The Brave Babes Battle Bus - New year, old battles, big resolve

SweetLathyrus · 02/01/2018 21:22

Hi, I'm SweetLathyrus, Sweet for short, and I've been on and off Gerald the Brave Babes Battle Bus for years, so this time it's me standing in for our wonderful Mouse to invite you on board.

The bus is a place of support, safety and occasional silliness for those of us struggling with our relationship with alcohol. Some of us are sober, some are trying to be, some are moderating and aren't ready to give up alcohol just yet.

So whatever your reason for questioning the whys and WTFs of your drinking, hop on board, make yourselves comfortable and join in.

If you want to see what it's like, here's the link to the last thread, the one that saw us through Christmas.

And if you want to know how it all started, here is the link to JWN's original, inspiring thread.

Join us on our journey, you won't regret it.

spanna41 · 02/01/2018 22:15

Thanks Sweet

Hi. Jumping back on the wagon. Had a shot new year and after much on/off crap with my oh my relationship is now finally twitching in its death throes. So I spent yesterday totally sauced over the course of the day.

Today, however, I have had nothing but tea, squash and water. The temptation to invoke the warm and fuzzies was overwhelming. But I didn't do it!

tryingtobethebestican · 03/01/2018 00:30

Hello please can you make some room for me on your bus. A happy and healthy new year to all of you. Hello two lovely ladies recommended I join the bus - thank you 💐 I have prob drunk a bottle of wine - at least - every night for the last ten years or so and I know I need to 1 must - stop. I though i would try dry January and last night drank only water and hot chocolate and was so so pleased and proud of myself. However tonight I drank a bottle and a half of wine 😕. I'm hoping I can look at tomorrow as a new day x

Trust2017 · 03/01/2018 04:33

Hi Trying I replied to you on the last thread. I hope we can both manage to do DJ. It will be a real achievement for me. X

Saywhen · 03/01/2018 06:51

Hello I think I have left one space in the old thread for the link again to the new one. Sorry crap with technology....

Welcome all the new babes. I'm day 61 af. Keep going I know it's not easy but you are in the right place for support.

guggenheim · 03/01/2018 07:04

Morning babes
Day 3 and feeling much better. Did anyone hear women’s Hour yesterday? They had an article about sobriety, it was quite interesting & probably on iPlayer.

Welcome new babes we can all support each other through Dry Jan & beyond.
saywhen day 61 is brilliant.

Yorkshireteaforme · 03/01/2018 07:09

Good morning everyone. It’s SO windy here and has been all night. At least if I have to go and collect our bins that have blown all over the street, it won’t be with a hangover. Starting day 3 soon - am in awe of the people who have managed more!

Saywhen · 03/01/2018 07:11

guggenheim yes i heard it - they had Claire pooley on who is one of the sober bloggers I have been reading. I enjoyed it!

Twattage13 · 03/01/2018 07:12

Morning all - my train has been cancelled so I'm still at home (good job I checked otherwise I would have been standing in the dark for 30 minutes waiting for the next one).

Hello to all new babes and to the other two bears...day 4 for me.

xxx

flowersonthepiano · 03/01/2018 08:02

Good morning. Just baggsying my spot on the new thread so I don't lose it. Day 3 for me and Day 7 for Mr Flowers. Went for a swim at 8.30 yesterday morning and a wet and windy walk with my 3 doggies in the afternoon. I have been cutting down booze and increasing exercise for the last few months. I tend to replace booze with nice food. I am working myself up to also eating more healthily as I really need to lose weight, but there's still quite a lot of Christmas stash in, and sobriety is my priority.

SweetLathyrus · 03/01/2018 08:09

Morning All.

Margie you made me laugh at the end of the last thread Grin, thanks for filling.

Fitful sleep still, but I did get back to sleep quickly. I have a horrible metallic taste in my mouth, which I always get, and a cold feeling. All part of the process.

Trying, welcome, a bottle a night is my MO too. As long as you are always trying, you will get more alcohol free days, keep a track of the days so that you can look back at a month and say "I did 4/31 AF", I did 15/31", or even "I did 31/31", even 1 is better than none.

Morning *Spanna8, not good for a beach walk this morning.

Hi there Ginger, sorry about the crap, stick with us.

Brilliant Say*, 61 is something to really celebrate.

Guggs, I'm going to find Woman's Hour later, thanks for the heads up.

Yorkshire, same here, our local park is the highest point for miles, I think I might give it a miss this morning and take SweetDog somewhere else this afternoon.

*Twattage, hope there are no trees on the line.

More marking for me today (there is always more bloody marking), I have a pilates class later this morning, and need to get DS ready for school tomorrow.

Have a good AF day everyone. Today I will not drink.

Morning all - had a hugely turbulent night here with the wind Shock and don't think I slept a wink! Feel exhausted but at least I am not hungover. Bring on day 3!

I already look less bloated, blood pressure is returning to normal, no heart palpitations for the last two days and heart rate is dropping. I want to exercise again, I am not embarrassed I might stink of wine this morning, my teeth aren't furry after brushing, my eyes are whiter and even though I have had a crap nights sleep I don't have that horrible pinched look under my eyes! It's all good...

SweetLathyrus · 03/01/2018 08:10

X-post.

*Flowers" absolutely right, one thing at a time, make sobriety a a priority.

Hi all, Managed day 2 ok but slept badly especially with the howling gale. Not sure if I feel any better yet as so tired! How do you link to people’s names like you are all doing in bold??

LuxuryWoman2017 · 03/01/2018 08:26

Morning all, welcome trying glad you found us ☺

Saywhen · 03/01/2018 08:32

Thank you sweet I always had that metallic taste too. Always worried it was something to do with kidney damage (dam Dr Google.) I had my kidneys tested recently for something not alcohol related and the Dr say they were perfect. So it wasn't my kidneys. Just in case you had had the same worries......

BernieBear · 03/01/2018 08:32

Morning babes and fellow bearettes.
Woke up in a pool of my own sweat early this morning BUT am feeling a little improvement this morning. As Lou says, whiter eyes with a less pinched look and without that tight feeling across the forehead.
Back to work today, dinner organised for when I get home so hopefully will have less if that emotional stress from last night.
Thanks for the new thread, I read a lot of the original post from 2010 last night and all I can say is Wow! I can't wait to read the rest and how wonderful it is to read the original thread that started this all off. Us girls can really kick arse when we need to. "We've got this" (((((eighties air grab)))). Good luck today gals x
Oh and a big well done Summer for avoiding that wine Smile

SweetLathyrus · 03/01/2018 08:33

Original you use a * before the name and after, without a space, there's a guide directly under the new post box if you need a reminder, and if you can follow it. If you are on a phone or tablet, you might have to go through two levels of extra characters to find the asterisk.

Saywhen I stay away from Dr Google at all costs, I have enough middle-age ailments that I know about already!! (But yes, comforting, thanks Wink).

Luckingfovely · 03/01/2018 08:46

Good morning all! Day three is feeling fine (bleary eyes only from the wind and rain last night), just need to shake this fluey cold after nearly two weeks, and might start to feel a bit better, so glad to hear a few positive stories of starting to feel good already Smile

gingergenius · 03/01/2018 08:51

Why have I woken up with a blood dry headache and feeling like I was drugged? I didn't touch a drop last night!!!!

gingergenius · 03/01/2018 08:53

But my intention today is NOT to drink.

TheOriginalFactoryMum · 03/01/2018 09:22

Thanks Sweet have learned something new! If it works...

SmallFox · 03/01/2018 09:23

Thanks for shiny new thread Sweet. I’ve left some opal fruits on the back seat on my way to work. Hope everyone is doing ok. It never ceases to amaze me how our amazing bodies cope with alcohol withdrawal - and how ashamed I am every time of what I’ve obviously been putting my body through on a daily basis when drinking. For those who are concerned about weird detox symptoms, try not to be - there’s a whole host of odd side effects from itchy skin to foggy head to odd mouth tastes - just try to barrel on through. And if it hasn’t already been mentioned, vitamin B tablets really help too.

Spanna so sorry about work stuff - hang in there lovely. Are you at work today?

Hope everyone is doing ok.
