Dating thread rules:

  1. The first rule about the dating thread is you don't talk about it with people you're dating.
  2. Develop a thick skin.
  3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  5. Trust your gut instinct.
  6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  7. You are the prize - they should be trying to impress you.
  8. If it's not fun, stop.
  9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread.

I back onto the chatting with loads. I find it usually changes after 3 or 4 days. The French one is only responding in 2 word sentences so that's him gone. The one who asked me to have drinks next Friday hasn't msg'd again. Neither has the one who got a bit hot & heavy & asked me to go out with him on Thursday. I can't decide whether to get a sitter or not. There's a new guy I started talking to last night who seems human & able to carry on a conversation which could be a possibility. I have such low hopes these days!

IndieTara · 16/09/2017 12:52

I've just taken myself off POF need a break from all the crap.

eatingtomuch · 16/09/2017 14:30

I have come to the conclusion most of the conversations die off very quickly once they are aware you don't want a quickie 😂😂😂

LanaDReye · 16/09/2017 16:17

When I read people posting that they have met someone I am happy as I know OLD can work, but the next stage doesn't seem easy. Yes you come off OLD, regularly meet, but dating with commitments (DCs, work, aging parents) is harder than dating in teens / 20s.

Just feel like I could have a double-life with Mr PrevIron and don't know how to merge things. Only 4ish weeks in so I may be thinking too far on!

ojojoj1 · 16/09/2017 16:56

I got messaged by guy on pof whose interests include 'his laptop' and he told me I'm way too picky Confused

Queenofthedrivensnow · 16/09/2017 17:07

Well my update is the mechanic asked to see my last night - I was busy, tonight but meet up on a night out. I hadn't planned to go out and don't really want to. Trying not to overthink and can't make my mind up anyway. Want to meet mr politician and see

Lovemusic33 · 16/09/2017 17:26

ojojo there seems to be a lot of people on POF that have little interest in anything. I read a profile yesterday of a man that was looking for his perfect woman, must have similar interests, his interests were football, Marvel and comics (more marvel) of and gaming. Are there actually woman out there that watch football, read comics and game all day? I guess there must be but there can't be many of them?

Queenofthedrivensnow · 16/09/2017 17:30

Love - Christ I hope there arnt! They are dull dull.

Lovemusic33 · 16/09/2017 17:45

I think that bloke was looking for a mirical Grin I was tempted to message him to wish him luck.

The man I was chatting too 'Mr Ginger' has started to show his faults. He has a rubbish job (I guess it's a job, but no skill involved), has been on POF for over 2 years, enjoys sex a little too much and lives in a caravan. Why I can't I find a normal man with a average job who lives in a house?

ojojoj1 · 16/09/2017 17:55

What's the occupation that would put you off ?

Lovemusic33 · 16/09/2017 18:00

I don't want to say too much as I don't want to out him, just think something along the lines of 'trolley collector' ,it doesn't bother me too much, better than unemployed but he doesn't seem to have a lot going for him.

PhoenixMama · 16/09/2017 18:09

Ojojo That's hilarious. What are they thinking?!?!

Queen Sorry not sure I understand - are you seeing him tonight? Why are you reluctant?

My irons are more like twigs that fall apart in the fire!

MyUsername200 · 16/09/2017 18:40

Does anyone else find it hard to get something off the ground? Been chatting to three guys but nothing has progressed and they all seem not that bothered. One disappeared off the face of the planet when I mentioned meeting for a drink, thought there was potential as the messages were long and chatty. Feeling a bit low about OLD right now, would love to actually have some sort of connection with someone. Maybe I need a break from it all? Sad

eatingtomuch · 16/09/2017 18:42

This thread is making me laugh.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 16/09/2017 18:51

Phoenix - no not seeing him tonight. He can make plans with me in the week if he wants to. My exh is leaving again so I won't have a babysitter. I can invite him around but I don't know if I want to. He's hardly a stranger but not sure I'm ready to have a men over when the kids are here even when they are in bed. I'm not ready for that. Ngh I knew this would be complex...

Beentherelefthimgotthetshirt · 16/09/2017 18:52

Love I went on two dates with and shagged someone who lived in a yurt... I was in my desperate open-minded, not everyone is as lucky as me, phase. This is why I'm now as hard-nosed as fuck at the beginning. I did go up market and found one that lived on a boat... will I ever learn? Bricks and mortar all the way now.

Hoping to meet the erudite and chivalrous Mr Spires early next week. He's a joy. On paper.

ojojoj1 · 16/09/2017 18:53

Myusername it comes and goes you may have connection and you meet and there is nothing there . Pof is dead for me , bumble 2 , tinder is almost non existent things could be better

Mrsjohnmurphy · 16/09/2017 19:01

I met musician bloke, don't think it has legs, but he's bringing me a maccys tonight after his gig and he makes me laugh, so passing the time, can't complain haha. I can't really be bothered with looking for new irons atm, seems like such hard work

PhoenixMama · 16/09/2017 19:09

Queen I hear your pain. So hard to juggle everything.

I'm chatting with this guy who seems great. He's even at a wedding & still msging. God only knows where it will go but sometimes it's just nice knowing someone's thinking of you!

Lovemusic33 · 16/09/2017 19:34

Been I have chatted to someone who lives on a boat, this is the 2nd to live in a caravan. I became suspicious when he said his home didn't like the windy weather. Then there was the guy who was sharing his flat with his friends pythons (luckily I'm not scared of snakes as it would have been a bit of a shock for anyone who is).

MyUsername200 · 16/09/2017 19:34

Ojojo I think you're right, when I was on POF many moons ago before I met my ex I had people chatting left right and centre. This time around it seems, well, dead.
Instead of moping I've re-juggled my profile a bit, added some new photos and sent out five messages. Let's see what happens. Smile

Beentherelefthimgotthetshirt · 16/09/2017 19:36

It's such a ridiculous question to have to ask though: "er, do you live in a house? I mean an actual house with bricks and stuff. No, I'm not a gold-digger."

PhoenixMama · 16/09/2017 19:37

Been hahahaha

PurpleSweetPeas · 16/09/2017 19:37

Username - POF was completely dead for me then I had a rearrange of pics, wrote a few different things and it went much better. Good luck! Of course I'll be back to feeling bleugh about it again soon I'm sure

PurpleSweetPeas · 16/09/2017 19:38

Been Grin but I couldn't date anyone living on a boat or in a tent either!
