Dating thread rules:

  1. The first rule about the dating thread is you don't talk about it with people you're dating.
  2. Develop a thick skin.
  3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  5. Trust your gut instinct.
  6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  7. You are the prize - they should be trying to impress you.
  8. If it's not fun, stop.
  9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread.

To be fair, I don't think the men expect you to go fishing with them and, ime, the good thing about men who fish is that sometimes they bugger off for hours on end and you can watch TV in your pyjamas all day :)

OutToGetYou · 05/05/2017 00:03

Ah, you live round the corner from me/the ex Info! I always hated that he had a slowly rotting Spitfire, two motorbikes, a go cart, and some other rubbish lying around on the drive. Apart from anything else, it meant we couldn't have guests park on the drive which is what it is for! I was always telling him I felt like The Clampets!

InfoSec21 · 05/05/2017 00:03

Oh my other list item is I never message anyone who lists the county as their location. It's perfectly fine to list the nearest town or city so anyone who lists the county comes across obstructive for no reason.

Counties are massive, they could be absolutely miles away. Not even going to waste the time finding out.

Buckets - might be a regional variation?! How fascinating. There's gotta be a sociology PhD thesis in the regional & demographic spread of OLD fish pics.

lettucesoup · 05/05/2017 00:04

On a bit of a random tangent I have been reading about Helen Mirren.
She has said:

"Your 40s are good.
Your 50s are great.
Your 60s are fab.
And 70 is fucking awesome."

Fuck online dating, life is going on all around me while I procrastinate and wonder should I message or not...

InfoSec21 · 05/05/2017 00:05

Out I don't live near that type, I'm in a village that is up it's own stupid little arse, I just avoid that type of family because I'm a terrible snob 😂

I think counties are massiver up north. But I agree, they do need to be more specific!

InfoSec21 · 05/05/2017 00:06

Phone added the apostrophe, this feels similar to bad death.

From FB:
Right...
You would not 'of' done something.
You would however, 'have' done something.
For example - you would 'have' fallen off 'of' the cliff.
When I pushed you.
For using shit grammar.

It made me chuckle as the should "of" issue is a real bugbear of mine. It's becoming so common that it seems to be catching on but makes me want to grind my teeth.

OutToGetYou · 05/05/2017 00:08

Info we live in one of those villages too! Thatched roofs, proper pub, million pound houses, (not ours!) special type of stone used to build the houses, hollows, meadows with horses, most people have a Labrador.... Etc. Makes the horrid driveway even worse.

AppleBlossomTimeNow · 05/05/2017 00:15

Helen Mirren - what a BABE. Night all, lovely chatting to you x

CoverMeLadsImGoingIn · 05/05/2017 07:47

Out if you're in the Cotswolds then I'LL date you! Love it there.....

Date sorted, quite a few weekends away as I'm booked up (so is he, interesting guy) so plenty of time to a) find out more about each other and b) wind myself up unnecessarily Wink

CoverMeLadsImGoingIn · 05/05/2017 07:48

Also totally concur re The Mirren Apple she's my "how to approach ageing" role model.

DoIDontIhavethetalk · 05/05/2017 08:26

You lot have been busy!!

Apple - yes to the list; that's pretty much mine.

Bant - how many wines did you have? 😂(Gasping fish euphemism)

I'm only 1 hour from London give it take so in theory wouldn't mind doing a meet down there.

InfoSec21 · 05/05/2017 08:40

You lot meeting up?

OP posts:
OutToGetYou · 05/05/2017 09:40

Info - I have a load of messages, I've missed two people (sorry!) and while I can send messages to a group they can't reply to the group, only directly to me.

So....it's a WIP. We might have to put on our big girl pants and swap numbers to use WA or something.

Biddylee · 05/05/2017 09:59

(lends big girl pants to the men) Grin

w1968 · 05/05/2017 10:08

Wouldn't it be lovely if when you meet up, someone of you develop a lovely relationship?! I know rules state no dating the thread, but happiness would be great!

ps I know I'm not a regular poster - but I do read. I'm in Cambridgeshire, so could meet in London

OutToGetYou · 05/05/2017 10:13

w1968 - added to my [totally unreliable as just held in my head] list - I remember your posts because we have the same year of birth!

w1968 · 05/05/2017 10:19

Thank you! It was certainly a great year - although i'm slightly concerned about next year!

Biddylee · 05/05/2017 10:22

Could do two meetups - one an evening and another a weekend picnic type thing in the summer. Happy to help organise (lurkers welcome)

Sorry i'm not posting much - my internet is down and I am sat in cafe nero online Grin

Like the Terminator, I'll be back (i used this the other day ... is this part of my mid-life crisis?? quoting Arnie??)

lettucesoup · 05/05/2017 10:40

Have a great dating or date-free weekend.
You decide.
still enjoying my dating by proxy.

My only iron has now returned to the UK from working away.
Unsure Date Two will happen.
I don't even know if I can be bothered.
Apathy rules at the moment for me.

InfoSec21 · 05/05/2017 10:44
