Hope it's ok for me to start a new thread as the other is full, I have copied and pasted the rules.

I know these threads have come in handy for many dipping their toes for the first time into OLD. So here we are again ... another 1000 posts down:

  1. The first rule about the dating thread is you don't talk about it with people you're dating.
  2. Develop a thick skin.
  3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  5. Trust your gut instinct.
  6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  7. You are the prize-they should be trying to impress you.
  8. If it's not fun, stop.
  9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread. *edited by MNHQ at OP's request*

Morning all! Nice to hear some dates going on Smile

brittany urghh I hate that part! It's always the really nice ones who you wish you could fancy because they would make great partners but just no spark. Sending that message fills me with dread, it's the worst part of OLD for me Blush good luck with it, post back how it goes!

buzz 3 dates with no kissing, I'd have to make the move myself or leave it! That's just me though, I love a good snog and am quite confident so I don't find myself attracted to very shy men. Everyone is different though, and you've had some more sensible answers than mine Wink

I have a date this evening myself. First meet, not sure I'm feeling it sadly

womanwithoutasong · 22/01/2017 09:31

buzzpopprince Doesnt sound great. If he cant bring himself to kiss you after three dates he's hardly going to be dynamite in the sack is he.

I dated someone for six months who only ever pecked me on the cheek. He'd spend ages hugging me though and telling me i was beautiful. I gave up in the end.

BernieBear · 22/01/2017 10:54

Hideous date yesterday! He looked nothing like his photos, refered to a restaurant as, and I quote, "a great milf pickup place" and then, when the girl behind the bar was pouring the last of some wine out of a bottle, said loudly "you can't get no more out of that love!". Also he seemed to having a sweating problem, it was dripping off him.

I couldn't get away fast enough. [shivers]. Maybe Bant was right after all about Tinder. Have just joined POF - I don't think it can get any worse?

info I think your profile sounds great now. Good luck with that
last Good luck - looking forward to the update!
Brittany - sorry to hear that your date wasn't what you expected.
womanwithoutasong Six Months??? I can see why you gave up.

Good luck with all those having dates today

InfoSec21 · 22/01/2017 11:04

Did first few messages last night with the new profile, most viewed but no replies.

Numbers game, keep trying.

Mrsfluff · 22/01/2017 12:59

Info your profile reads really well. Definitely message anyone you like the look of - you may be thinking they're out of your league, but they could be looking at you thinking exactly the same. There have been some people I liked the look of, but didn't even check out their profiles, as I thought I didn't stand a chance.........so I was shocked when they winked at me Grin

RunnnyMummy · 22/01/2017 13:21

Bernie - that sounds awful. Hope you have more luck on pof
Info - I like the sound of your profile, but I tend to wait for men to message me first. So if you see someone you like the look of then go for it.
I find it frustrating seeing that someone has looked at your profile and swiped they want to meet you - but don't message you.
buzz - grab him & give him a big snog and see how he responds. Just in case he's being a gentleman.

RunnnyMummy · 22/01/2017 13:24

My coffee date this morning cancelled. But I'm not too bothered. I feel very ill anyway so I probably would've cancelled anyway.
Meanwhile MrToyboy is still keen to meet me (he's about 15yrs younger than me). I keep putting him off as I really don't get why he's interested in me other than for sex - but he says he's not.

InfoSec21 · 22/01/2017 13:41

Thanks for the profile votes of confidence.

I think my area really isn't helping either. Using POF as my weapon of choice, looking at the near me section, it's not far down the list that people are heading an hour away. When I visit my folks in Newcastle and look there, the entire list doesn't even stray past five miles.

I can look at people here who look lovely and think well what's the realistic chances of us doing anything over an hour apart. I've done two long distance things before and they didn't work out. From here to Paris was my furthest!

LotsoNumbers · 22/01/2017 13:46

I've got a first date this afternoon and feeling pretty nervous! We're meeting for a coffee in town. Just gonna be myself 😂

buzzpopprince · 22/01/2017 13:47

Hi
I'm sorry I can't now see the posts on the app when I reply to refer back to the poster, don't mean to be rude!

Re him knowing, I probably don't give a lot away in a date and not touchy feely, but it's been discussed by message and we are in touch all the time so I thought he would know by that.

I attempted to grab him at the end of date 3, it was v awkward. I was in his van so there was a big gap between us so I took the reigns and sort of shuffled over to his side and did a quick peck...so.awkward. And then he text me afterwards saying he was shy to kiss me 😳

The person that said what will he be like between the sheets, that I think is my concern if I'm honest, and also re the rest of his life, a bit shallow really but there you go...

I don't know how I feel about him, he is very sweet, seems kind, nice, into me. Not as tall as I would usually go for but that's ok. I had a hellish last relationship so I'm trying to look for values and kindness, common interests and a good person this time, but ideally one that's great in the sack too! Halo

UpYerGansey · 22/01/2017 14:01

Give it a go Runny, there are a few of us on here having lovely times with younger guys. Yes it's a bit terrifying unnerving at first, for sure.
But you won't be long figuring out if you like each other as people or not. And that's what matters. Along with the super-hot sex 😉😊

Lovemusic33 · 22/01/2017 14:04

Info, I have the same problem where I live, I look at the 'local to me' and there's hardly anyone within a hours drive away apart from people I know or people I have already been on dates with. I was deterand not to date anyone that was more than half a hour away but have ended up dating someone that's 50 miles away, not ideal but I think it can work, for me it works out quite well as I am one of those people that dives into things, the fact I can't see him that often means I can't rush.

Good luck lotso, hope your date goes well x

OP posts:
InfoSec21 · 22/01/2017 14:19

That's a good theory, I'm also someone who can end up rushing right in so having a bit of distance wouldn't harm from that respect.

I do wanna spend time with someone though so the idea that I can't do that until the weekend just makes me think I'd be better off on my own. I've tried that before and she didn't like the fact that that I wasn't caning the phone calls all the time whilst apart.

RunnnyMummy · 22/01/2017 14:23

Good luck lotso - I like coffee dates, less pressure to dress up & getting home at night.
Upyer - I have a child free weekend next weekend so I might see if Mrtoyboy is free then. He's a personal trainer so if nothing else I might get a few fitness tips

rememberthetime · 22/01/2017 14:30

Sounds like everyone is having a good weekend. Info - your profile sounds great now but i still want to know who your 80's singer friend is!!

I have still not heard from Mr Cook - deleted everything now and moving on...

Well, My date with Mr Intellectual. I did end up meeting him at his hotel. We sat in front of the fire, he ordered a bottle of champagne and we talked for 3 hours solid. Then I went to his room to you know "see it" and well i saw much more than I intended...and aside from getting home a little later than I wanted to, it was great. Really nice.

But as we know he leaves the country on Monday evening. We are seeing each other during the day tomorrow and have been in constant contact today. We are intending on staying in touch when he is gone and will get together next time he is here which will be a few months. There's no expectation on either side about how that will pan out. I don't mind waiting at this point - but if either of us wanted to date other people thats OK too.

So finally - my first MB since the end of my marriage. Quite happy about that actually.

BernieBear · 22/01/2017 14:37

I'm wow remember that sounds like an amazing date! I'm glad you had a good time and I hope you continue with it!
Joined pof and haven't been on for about 18 months (since the dogging swinger date (shudders at the memory). I. Can't believe the amount of men who are still in there from all that time ago!Confused

buzzpopprince · 22/01/2017 14:37

Ooh Remember that sounds like a great time! Hope it continues to go well until he is back x

InfoSec21 · 22/01/2017 14:48

Sounds like you're all having some great times and dates!

The dogging swinger date sounds an interesting story if you want to elaborate!!?

As for the 80s singer, I won't name him but he was in a band then went solo.

Tell you all something too, about four years ago I was on POF and decided to join as a full member to see if it would help my chances. It's the worst thing ever as it tells you all the details. The amount of 'deleted unread' was amazing. It's not even just that the message content isn't good enough, a lot of times the message is deleted without even bring read.

brittanyfairies · 22/01/2017 15:24

Oh dear, just flicking through Tinder and a guy's profile came up, just his body no head in shot and he was wearing an adult nappy. All other photos were of him in nappies.

Apparently he is a father of four, but he's looking for someone to help him with his nappies, change him, clean him etc. The one time you hope you don't super like by mistake. Also a couple on there looking for a woman for a threesome. They're all coming out of the woodwork today.

Lilacpink40 · 22/01/2017 15:29

Hi all I had 2 dates yesterday. Didn't mean to but talked with one potential in morning and he was free later in the day so ended up driving from first date straight into second date.

First date was very good, few differences, but second date was like being with a friend. First date has been writing really lovely messages since I said I wasn't sure, but I haven't felt the relaxed connection that I had with second one before. It's like buses all over again, waiting then 2 turn up and you don't know which one goes in the best direction. Confused

Bant · 22/01/2017 15:42

Buses usually have it written on the front, lilac

If only dates were like that...

InfoSec21 · 22/01/2017 17:05

Sent someone a message before. I liked her style so I commented around that. She replied:

'Thank u'

What's the actual point of that?

lastnicknamefree · 22/01/2017 17:48

It's such a slog isn't it info urghh

Bant · 22/01/2017 17:54

The point is that's an opening for you to follow up

InfoSec21 · 22/01/2017 18:42

Would you follow up on that Bant?

Feels like a closed door. Slammed even.
