Online dating...... where have all the good men gone? Thread 110.

I know these threads have come in handy for many dipping their toes for the first time into OLD. So here we are again ... another 1000 posts down:

  1. The first rule about the dating thread is you don't talk about it with people you're dating.
  2. Develop a thick skin.
  3. Do not invest emotionally too soon.
  4. It's all BS until it actually happens.
  5. Trust your gut instinct.
  6. People vanishing, lying & being generally weird is not your fault.
  7. You are the prize-they should be trying to impress you.
  8. If it's not fun, stop.
  9. Loo update is mandatory.
10. No dating the thread. 11. Read Why Men Love Bitches (aka WMLB), and take from it what you will. 12. Don't serve up moose burgers on the first date (although this is still in debate right now) 13. Matthew Hussey also very useful. And very easy on the eye even if you don't find him any good. 14. IF THEY SAY THEY DON'T WANT A RELATIONSHIP, THEY DON'T WANT A RELATIONSHIP

I just wouldn't go there lastnicknamefree. I can't help but feel that heartache this way lies.

Dieu · 15/11/2016 19:41

Following my previous post, it would be so good to get others' perspective on it. I now feel like even if he does message back to say that he'd love to see me, it's just not the same. It has now been nearly 2 days since my message, and the wait has thoroughly dampened my earlier ardour and enthusiasm. How long would you give it until you block and move on? This is unlike me, as I have never been the pursuer (nor anyone daft or soppy) but I really did feel a bond with him. And I'm worried that I'll look a mental case if I block him after suggesting we go out! Confused So how long would you give someone to reply? I know that he will have seen the message, and it was sent yesterday morning. At least if he says no, moving on will now come something of a relief. Sad

Lilacpink40 · 15/11/2016 19:41

Lastnick it's hard enough seeing someone who lives with their parents, can you imagine going back to theirs?

I would ask him to contact you when he's got his own place. You may have found better by then anyhow.

lastnicknamefree · 15/11/2016 19:52

Thanks ladies you are right. I don't think I'll message him again, plenty more matches that don't come with complications!

Evilwater · 15/11/2016 19:53

last it sounds like a nightmare.

Umm, thanks! Grin

Evilwater · 15/11/2016 19:56

I've joined bumble, no messages yet. In fact very little to no activity for me. :(

OP posts:
Dieu · 15/11/2016 20:10

I had never heard of it Evilwater. Might it be taking a while to catch on, particularly in some areas?

Bant · 15/11/2016 20:23

Evilwater - do you mean no replies to your messages to people?

Evilwater · 15/11/2016 20:35

That's right bant I do message people however only the " you look really horny" ones reply. I pretty much get ignored.

I must be doing something wrong.

pringlecat · 15/11/2016 21:17

Dieu I don't block, but after a few days, I mentally write off the man. Re-read rule 7. Any guy who waits and waits to message you does not think you're the prize!

pringlecat · 15/11/2016 21:19

Evilwater Are you near a big city?

I don't get replies from all of them, but equally when I match, I don't message all of them. Swings and roundabouts.

You can constantly change your age and distance parameters. Have a play with them under settings.

I am definitely seeing a better calibre of man on Bumble, but with that said, I haven't met up with any of them yet.

Myusernameismyusername · 15/11/2016 21:27

Evil clearly you are just hot stuff but I hate that! Angry

Lilacpink40 · 15/11/2016 22:15

Evil tis true it could be an indicator that you're attractive...but maybe you're after the ones that actually take time to read your profile?

I get "hay babe your nice smile" and similar mispelt drivel messages.

Forme2016 · 15/11/2016 22:33

Any word from Mrsfluff tonight?? Wondering how meeting MIL31 went Grin?

Lilacpink40 · 15/11/2016 23:07

I have two good potential irons in the making. One I was chatting to weeks ago and now back in contact, he's Mr Eyes and a new man, been talking lots over two days he's Mr Green.

I think Mr Green may be a player. Is definitely still looking on pof, then again so am I!

pringlecat · 15/11/2016 23:30

Just chatting to someone on POF. I am getting better at talking to strangers! Grin

One of these days my real personality might actually come across and someone might fall in love with it...! One of these days...!

There's definitely an art to being yourself...

Mrsfluff · 15/11/2016 23:31

Hi Forme, thanks for thinking of me! It went brilliantly- she's fab!! Me and Mr 3q have agreed it's not 'no strings' and we're not looking to meet anyone else. So, it appears I may be in a relationship!! Best £58 I've ever spent Grin (Match membership)

pringlecat · 15/11/2016 23:32

Lilacpink40 As well as 'hey', I finally got 'what's a nice girl like you doing on here' tonight. I am ticking that one off the list. Now I just need an inappropriate photo to complete the set.

pringlecat · 15/11/2016 23:33

Mrsfluff Ooooh, how exciting! Grin You'll be too busy to talk to us on this thread soon!

Forme2016 · 15/11/2016 23:40

Yay!! Mrsfluff- so glad it went well, long may it continue Flowers

singleandfabulous · 16/11/2016 00:17

Lastnicknamefree I kniw two men in that situation at the moment. Both relationships dead as a dodo. The one with kids finds it harder to date as he wsnts to keep a civil relationship in tge long term. The other isnt bothered at all but he's a man child

It all depends on individual circumstances really and getting your own place is so expensive.

pringlecat · 16/11/2016 00:23

singleandfabulous There's civil and there's hiding a new relationship to avoid 'upsetting' the ex. From experience, that's when alarm bells need to ring!

pringlecat · 16/11/2016 00:24

I've just been chatting to three men and having some very varied and pleasant conversations with them. They all intrigue me for different reasons and I've already lined up a date with one.

There must be a full moon or something; sod Mr Wildcard, I am suddenly full of confidence!

Mrsfluff · 16/11/2016 05:56

Go Pringle!!! How great that you find all three interesting, that doesn't happen often. I shall never be too busy for this thread - it's bern a lifeline Grin
