Feeling a little bit down in the dumps about my lack of a love life...

I'm a 35 year old single mum to a five year old DD. Split up with her dad when I found out I was pregnant however it was all a bit complicated as we had occasional 'reunions' until she was about a year old and I said enough and finally cut it all off.

Ex is now happily coupled up with a new girlfriend, which I'm totally OK about. No feelings between us anymore, so not at all complicated.

I've had a couple of short term relationships since then, lasting no more than 6 months.

I find it difficult to meet new men. I've tried OLD but haven't got anywhere with it. Most of the men I meet in RL are married/coupled up. I have had lots of crushes on men, even if they are single I don't think they even know I exist. I am unbelievably horny all of the time.

I just don't think it's going to happen for me. I don't think I'll ever meet someone nice. The type of guys who do express interest are usually weirdos/creeps/in relationships. Am dismayed why I attract these types and not a normal, nice single guy.

I never get asked out. I think I'm OK looking, am reasonably intellegent (have a degree and currently doing an MA), kind, caring etc. I think I'm a nice person. I just don't seem to be able to meet someone who thinks the same.

Don't really know why I'm posting, I guess just to get it off my chest. Feeling a bit down about it all at the moment. This idea that I will be left on the shelf for ever.

Thanks funnylady , I'll pop back later , May bring a beer and a book with me ! Can't understand why you're sitting on the shelf ,you seem really nice !

LittleTripToHeaven · 29/10/2016 12:19

Haha, yes, I used to go to dark, alternative/goth clubs. This was well out of my comfort zone!!

I wasn't really a big club go-er then, but at least the music was good. This was just shit!

Sorry to hear you're feeling a bit down today, Roverman.

Funnylady123 · 29/10/2016 12:20

Aagh thanks roverman. I guess leaving the house would be a start!
Will be sitting with beer myself later, shove over and we can read and drink together.

LittleTripToHeaven · 29/10/2016 15:50

Roverman On the dating thread a few years ago, people would occasionally PM their OD username to someone else for them to give it the once over. I'd be happy to do that. I've done it before.

Sometimes it can be something really simple that we've overlooked ourselves.

Funnylady123 · 29/10/2016 16:13

Had a spare (rare) hour yhis afternoon and plucked up the courage to peek at pof (get me being so adventurous!)
Wow, you are all so brave. Had a look at some women of my age to get an idea whar sort of things people say. Well that's it, they all look do glamorous, I could never compete. My rl friends all say I am lovely and attractive, nice etc but apparently not!! I quit.

Funnylady123 · 29/10/2016 16:31

Good lord, sorry about typos, haven't even started on the beer yet - it's been a tough day!

roverman75 · 29/10/2016 18:04

Funnylady , I'm sure you look great , still nobody has looked at my profile , have changed all my photos this afternoon ,

LittleTripToHeaven · 29/10/2016 18:20

I know what you mean, Funny!

Funnylady123 · 29/10/2016 18:37

Right, have climbed up onto the shelf and opened my first beer of the night. Feeling pretty shitty, after looking at all the lovely ladies seeking a date and spent too much time with exh today. Things can only get better, surely?
Thanks roverman, you have never seen me, but somehow made me feel a bit better. Hope your day was not too bad.
Glad it's not just me littletrip. How do these women find the time to look so fabulous?

roverman75 · 29/10/2016 18:46

Hi,funnylady not been to bad a day all told . Glad I made you smile , sounds as if you're self confidence is low,you seem a really nice person .
Think I may have to be more pro active and start messaging myself see if I get any bites ! . Although I may decide to get Xmas out of the way first.
Will climb on shelf later after f1 qualifying has finished

1DAD2KIDS · 29/10/2016 19:29

Well everyone it is another loney night for me too. But now I am inspired to crack open the booze and ignore the house work once I have the last little monkey in bed. We live the life on the shelf don't we? BBQ nuts anyone?

roverman that is the nature of the OLD game. We cant just sit back and wait for people to message us. It very rarely works like that. You need to start casting your hook if you want a bite.

roverman75 · 29/10/2016 19:39

Up until now I haven't had time to sit and read through profiles ,the joy of four kids and limited time! Really busy for the next couple of weeks so might not get time , will climb up on shelf in a while with a drink

1DAD2KIDS · 29/10/2016 19:42

That of course is the other dilemma, time. A big factor of shelf membership.

Funnylady123 · 29/10/2016 19:47

BBQ nuts sound great thanks. Forgot the joy of having little ones that go to bed early, mine are usually up later than me nowdays.
Saturday nights are always the worst, feels a bit less lonesome being up here on the shelf tonight though.
From what I saw today roverman, you have plenty of choice. May be that there are more ol' fashioned lasses like me out there that still wait for the man to make the first move. ( sure I will get linched on here now!)
Have some Ben and Jerrys for when we run out of nuts.

roverman75 · 29/10/2016 19:53

What flavour Ben and Jerry's ? Have to try and make some time to read some profiles . I don't get to bed earlier than my kids these days !

Funnylady123 · 29/10/2016 20:13

Cookie dough of course!
Maybe you should let us pick someone for you? Smile

1DAD2KIDS · 29/10/2016 20:21

Always a winner. Always stocked up in my freezer. But then I do have the joys of a Herrons Frozen Foods on my door step and all its frozen bargains. I would rarely pay full price for B&J.

Funnylady123 · 29/10/2016 20:30

Me neither.
Not heard of Herrons, if not on offer, Asda cookie dough is almost as nice.

roverman75 · 29/10/2016 20:44

Don't like cookie dough ,would have to be chocolate .time to get on the shelf for the evening ! Snuggling up with book and cushions

Funnylady123 · 29/10/2016 20:47

Don't like cookie dough!!!!! Don't put that in your profile Wink
What are you reading?

roverman75 · 29/10/2016 21:03

I'm reading David eddings (fantasy novel ) , would nth tell anyone I don't like cookie dough if you don't ,lol!

Funnylady123 · 29/10/2016 21:10

Have never read fantasy, am a bit of a saddo chick lit girl.
Actually on reflection, might go in your favour not liking cookie dough-means she won't have to share.
Just waiting for second child to come home before cracking open second beer. Won't until they're both in as frequently get calls to collect/rescue.
It's quiet on the shelf tonight, guess everyone else has a life!

1DAD2KIDS · 29/10/2016 21:13

I found my first Herrons near my first marital home and never looked back. All my time moving around in the forces I always seemed to live near one. Now I have finally settled and I have one a couple of minutes walk from the house. So many bargains, I often buy the shop out. They are not often found south of the midlands. Mainly found in Northern Rural market towns and deprived town/city areas. They made a big success in the credit crunch and have expanded rapidly over the last few years. You may even live near one and not know. I have even stepped foot in the first ever one in Hull city centre on my travels.

Anyway I digress, much like the thread.

Funnylady123 · 29/10/2016 21:16

Pinkmusicstand - so sorry, we completely hijacked your thread. Feel reassured that you have created a lovely shelf though.

LittleTripToHeaven · 29/10/2016 21:16

I'm climbing onto the shelf.

I don't have a book and I don't like ice cream, but I do have some brie, crusty bread and some prosecco that I'm happy to share.

I tried reading David Eddings once, but I didn't get very far.

I haven't read a book in a while. I'm trying journalling as a therapeutic tool so I'm writing instead. I find it hard though.
