Brave Babes - Wrapping up for a Wonderful Winter

Hi, I am venusandmars and I've been on these threads for many years.

It can be tough at this time of year when the adverts are full of families cheerfully opening bottles of wine and good cheer, when work parties are alcohol fuelled, when distant friends call round with a bottle in hand.

Maybe you're trying to cut down a little in the pre-Christmas weeks, maybe you are struggling to know how to continue with a longer period of abstinence, maybe you are waking up after a Christmas Party feeling sick and covered in shame (or even feeling shame and covered in sick).

Whatever, whenever, if you want to stop, or cut down, or simply share your struggle with others who also feel the tug..... please join us.

Usually our lovely mouseface opens these threads, but the poor mouse is sick in hospital and so I am overcoming the technophobia that a 50-something feels.... (well done me Chocolate ). Our last thread is here if you want to read the last few posts

And if you want to read the story from the beginning (you'll need a few weeks) HERE is where it all started when Jesuswhatnext posted in May 2010.

Welcome one and all x

Obrigada Hello!

Spanna, I'll bring the Fevertree Ginger Beer.

evilpopstar · 26/01/2016 10:58

Nice one spanna an awesome achievement. I'm just back from Spanish holiday with my lovey girlfriends. Did drink but in moderation - eg 2 small beers, plus 2 or 3 wines in the evening which for me on holiday is not very much at all. Managed to get dodgy tummy and now on way to work meeting. See you later at the party.

Margie32 · 26/01/2016 11:40

Spanna you are a superStar, a true inspiration, I'm sure at times it hasn't been easy but you show us newbies that it can be done!

At work, totally manic, more later. See you all at the partay!!!

Tinkerbellx · 26/01/2016 15:41

Sweet what app do you use ?

Fairenuff · 26/01/2016 16:26

A party? On a school night?! Shock

Oh, go on then, 301 AF days is a very good reason to party. Let's get this bus decorated and fill it to the brim with nibbles. Cheese & pineapple anyone?

SweetLathyrus · 26/01/2016 17:50

Tink, it's called 'I'm Done Drinking'. It's American, so you have to do a bit of conversion, but I find it helpful once we get out of Jan and it's harder to keep count!

Faire, it's a rock an' roll bus tonight, start blowing up the balloons!

Had a great day at work, With a really nice bunch of students. That's all the drug I need, Grin

dementedma · 26/01/2016 18:01

Well done Spanna just back from London so a bit knackered, but will look in on the party. Puts out bowls of nibbles.

SmallFox · 26/01/2016 18:28

Grr, I'm out at a very dull meeting tonight so I'll miss the party - will try to look in later tho' am a bit worried you'll all be dancing madly on tables by then. I'm putting out a crate of Becks Blue for you - save one for me later, if I need to push the boat out on my return.

Don't do anything I wouldn't..

beachestoexplore · 26/01/2016 18:34

Am I a little early? Blows party thing and opens big crisp bags. Spanna 301 days is awesome pumpkin, so proud of/for you FlowersStar

SweetLathyrus · 26/01/2016 19:24

dementedma · 26/01/2016 20:02

Hey beaches and sweet. I have been soldier ogling the last two days so have brought a few of them along to the party.....

SweetLathyrus · 26/01/2016 20:06

Ma, you can come again! The more the merrier.

Where's the guest of honour?

beachestoexplore · 26/01/2016 20:26

Oooo lovely, soldiers on the bus

beachestoexplore · 26/01/2016 20:58

Now abandoning intelligent pose in favour of YMCA moves Grin

spanna41 · 26/01/2016 21:05

Did someone say soldiers? Shock

Hello you lovely lot, thank you for every kind word Smile It's been a massively emotional, tiresome, mental, exhausting and truly inspiring journey Grin This started off as a 100 day 'challenge self can I really do this' and I'm doing it Grin

Right, who's up for a mad sober dance Grin

Latest find, AF San Miguel from Tescos currently think it's nicer than Beck Blue, yum Wink

SweetLathyrus · 26/01/2016 21:29

Sisters are Doin' it for Themselves!

evilpopstar · 26/01/2016 21:31

beachestoexplore · 26/01/2016 21:35

Tainted love next, oh I wish I had worn my electric blue tube skirt now. I was so unhip back in the day Grin.

SweetLathyrus · 26/01/2016 21:53

Morning. I hope you all had a lovely party I didn't want to interrupt you sounded like you were having fun.
Can I join the bus please. I posted about my drinking on Sunday and ma (a wee name drop) told me to check in on you. I've spent the last two days reading this thread.
So I don't allways drink till I pass out and can quite often moderate but more often now I say fuckit and get out of tits. I did it on Saturday, with friends at dinner ffs.

Blarblarblar · 27/01/2016 06:30

Ooo posted too soon.
My Husband found me passed out on the bathroom floor cover in my vomit. He thought I was dead. He's starting to worry whenever I drink with certain friends now and when I go out with them it doesn't go well. If it's a work do anything important I'll have 2 glasses and be done.
I don't know how to do this, what to do. Saying no to never having a glass of wine is an awful thought, I dreamt of ameretto last night.
Gosh I've rambled but anyway.
Hi

ClaretAndBlue30 · 27/01/2016 06:44

Morning blar welcome to the bus!! You sound so like me. I have a certain group of friends who for some reason activate my 'fuck it' switch and I have no idea why. Likewise I can be sensible on other occasions!!

Don't think too far ahead, we have a saying - one day at a time (ODAAT) or one hour at a time when the going gets rough.

Keep reading and post when you want to. Look after yourself.

Sorry I missed the party, it sounded great. I was snuggled up on the sofa watching vlogs with my dh. That certainly wouldn't have happened when I was drinking, I'd have been slumped in my armchair half pissed with glass in hand.
