Dh has been secretly recording me help

Shit, total shock here.
I've just been onto a hard drive my DH bought a while ago for us to share as last pc crashed and I lost all my spreadsheets I use for tax return,

I created a new folder for each of us and dragged all his stuff into his folder. He had loads of MP3 files and assumed it was music so I've opened one up to play as if it is current music I was going to delete it as its on iTunes. But the MP3 recordings weren't music they were recordings of me. The first one I opened was of Big Bang theory from last night and had me talking to my dog. The next one was the tv I was watching again last night.
WTF is he playing at, I just don't understand it. 22 mp3 recordings lasting about 5 mins each.

How is he doing this? Can anyone tell me if its the ps4 that's recording me?

He's gone to work so I can't have this out until late tonight.

Oh god, yes. Do you have an iPhone, OP?

Garrick · 06/10/2015 23:57

Just because I wish everyone was more technically aware ... Edward Snowden describes the tools available to GCHQ for using your phone to spy on you. In fact, this level of fine-tuning isn't necessary and geeks have known about it forever. No extra software is needed in the phone, just some settings (which Snowden says MI5 send in a text.)

Your average non-geek, however, can buy or even get a free download of a small app that will make a phone do this.

Trying to rule out all the more ordinary answers, Daisy - have you checked your call logs? Has your phone been ringing him by accident?

SladeGreen · 07/10/2015 00:26

I think you should ask a RL friend to come round so you can show them what you have found, just in case you need back-up if he deletes them. Even better , do you know anyone who is good with computers so they can help you figure it out?

Very strange indeed. Good luck, OP

Frequency · 07/10/2015 00:33

Do you tell him you do a lot of housework but never seem to get anywhere?

I used to wish I could record my ex-P when he was in the house alone because according to him he never stopped cleaning and yet the house got messier Confused

I hope you find your answers OP and that they are innocent.

DolphinsPlayground · 07/10/2015 01:01

How strange. Hope you find the answer.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 07/10/2015 01:12

It still sounds more like you are recording yourself.

Amazemedontbeacunt · 07/10/2015 01:20

How can she be accidentally recording herself and then saving those recordings to files marked 'cricket' on her husbands sign in profile on the pc Confused

How odd. I'm racking my brains for an ordinary explanation but can't think of one. Then again I'm not very techie

Hope you're ok op

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 07/10/2015 02:50

Wow. The secret file means he's definitely doing it and it's deliberate. How utterly creepy.

lunar1 · 07/10/2015 06:49

Bloody hell what is he playing at, I hope there is an innocent explanation.

SmallLegsOrSmallEggs · 07/10/2015 07:50

Was it established that the cricket folder had the same files in it? I thought it was just that it contained mp3s that may or may not be cricket, or that could be the op.

Joysmum · 07/10/2015 07:55

If it's all in a cricket file that has no cricket in it then it's all been put there diliberately.

I'm no technically minded but can you tell by a log thingy when they were taken and last looked at?

Daisycloud66 · 07/10/2015 07:58

Whoever asked if I had a iphone, I have had one for years but am using a old android Cheepie at the moment until I take mine to Apple.

Yeah the cricket folder had the same mp3s on. All his other video files display a part of the picture as the file clip. These MP3 files are just black files with a play icon on them. And the titles are different to music ones.
I'm not going to go on the PC when he's in the house so will wait until he goes to work.

Joysmum - I am not sure if there is a log on the PC. There was one on the windows pc recent items no idea about Mac but if there is I may have re written over it when I played them.

I don't know but having seen other creepy husbands' explanations it will be all a silly mistake. Nothing sinister at all, no way.

moopymoodle · 07/10/2015 08:59

If he deletes things but hasn't formatted the pc. So if hes just deleted those files you can go into system restore. Set the date you found the files then the computer will restore back to thar date and they will be visible again

moopymoodle · 07/10/2015 09:05

OP I've just asked my husband as he's very tech savy, builds apps and websites for a living etc. He said its very easy to put an APP on a mobile phone that will record every noise and phone call around you. The APP can even be hidden in folders to look like system software and upload the recordings via wifi to an email address. What Mobile phone do you have and was it in your pocket or bag etc during these recordings?

I'd advise you to reset the phone back to factory settings or get a new one and password it. Even mobile phones from 5 years ago can have the software installed easily.

Daisycloud66 · 07/10/2015 11:37

The recordings I found late last night are again of me from towards the end of last week. Two days worth of them.
Have found two old flash drives full of them. Too many to go through, have gone through random ones and they seem to be from months ago.
From what I have heard I can't pin point exactly when they were so I am going to listen to some more.
In complete shock.
Have read the posts earlier and didn't want to believe it was my phone recording me but from what I have heard I am starting to think that's how it's being done. As one of them was a conversation I had with my friend in her car. So yep all of you who said phone seems to be right. There is no other logical explanation.

MajesticWhine · 07/10/2015 11:43

Daisycloud66 that is completely awful no wonder you are in shock. Do you know what you might do next?

pocketsaviour · 07/10/2015 11:46

Wow. Originally I assumed this would be some sort of accident or phone glitch. But the secret folder thing blows that out of the water, along with the fact that he's removed them from the mac and put them on a flash drive, and from the sound of it he's definitely using your phone to do the recording.

My first assumption would be that he is paranoid that you are cheating and he's trying to catch you out. Or that you are on the verge of leaving him and he thinks he's going to hear you secretly plotting your exit with a solicitor.

I think you have to have it out with him. Because it's really bizarre and almost edging into real paranoia.

Twinklestein · 07/10/2015 11:49

Is DH generally insecure and paranoid?

ImperialBlether · 07/10/2015 11:51

I would 'lose' that phone immediately and I would buy another. Turn the phone off and leave it with a friend. Mind you, if he can track that, he'll know where it is. Make sure you leave it at your friend's before you buy the new one.

MajesticWhine · 07/10/2015 11:57

When you get a new phone make sure you password protect it and don't let it out of your sight. But you might as well confront him straight away.

Camembertie · 07/10/2015 12:00

hang on does this go back to before your iphone broke? in which case it's on both phones? I think you might want to think about mentioning this to someone official, if he's that paranoid he's recording you that much I don't think he's going to be overly joyful when he's rumbled :(
