Recently there was one who offered to come to my house and do the housework and be my slave, another wanted me to be his key holder ( don't ask) this boards are full of weirdos, thankfully some nice ones in the madness.

Oh my god I got a slave one once!!! he was rather nice looking too and I had some ironing I could have given him....but well, I declined. What the hell is a key holder? I hope you are right about the nice ones too.....I'm living in hope!

err, well apparently he liked to be locked up, need I say more. Yes male servant was good looking and young ( don't suppose you are in the SW). Had another looney today who said in his profile he was extremely good looking (not bad) and liked fighting, I mean wtaf. [shakes head in despair]

Hi all, I seem to get all the nutters, liars and cheats on POF, anyone got any thoughts on whether or not the paid sites such as match have less of these types on or is it just as bad? Don't want to waste my money if it's just the same people!

Blossom and Bumble I had a big burly builder type offer to do work on my house in exchange for me being a errrrrm....... Friendly customer. He provided me with a list of jobs he could do, It was quite a moral dilemma as I really needed my gutters clearing at that point (no that's not a euphemism!)

Those rules are good - remind me of no. 2 when I fall for each guy on the first date.

With regards to the paid sites, I've not tried POF but OKcupid has proved to be well ahem....I cancelled it after a day! But maybe that's me....the slave guy put me off. Match seems to be ok, and when I was nearing the end of the month they offered me 2 months for 1 so I went for it.....not met anyone who's floating my boat so far....but I'm living in hope. One waiting in the wings but with his child commitments and mine we've not been able to set up a date yet. He lives about an hours drive Mr Faraway. GSM seems to be full of pomp at the moment with no one prepared to touch a 40 something single mother with kids!! Saying that I am meeting with one guy next week from GSM he seems quite nice. Not sure what to call him as he's pretty non-descript as he's not given much away, just seems nice and polite and professional...Mr NonDescript it is.

I'm doing a little bit of OLD maths here- I joined POF at the start of Jan, my inbox has messages from over 50 men in it. I've sent messages to probably another 15 who never replied. Out of these 65 men, I've been actually interested in say 10. Out of these 10 I've met 1. I wouldn't say that this was a very good strike rate! It feels like a full time job search at the moment where you send out 50 cvs and get no replies let alone an interview! I only want to meet someone to go to the pub with, feeling like a ridiculous amount of work right now!

Have you mentioned that in your OD profile Crow? The temptation sometimes is to make ourselves sound overly interesting (for example: travelling, sightseeing; theatre, culture) and to forget about saying what we really want; which often can be just someone to go down the pub with.

crow Are you including the creepy messages in there?! Half of mine have either been weird or just a "hi" message!

MadeMan my profile is the opposite and probably makes me come across as boring, but I've listed the things that I enjoy and actually do in my spare time. At the end I've put that I want to meet someone to have a few laughs with without taking things too seriously. Found it hard to think of a way to put casual meetups/pub buddy without sounding daft! I thought it was a given that most girls just want someone to go for a casual drink and a chat?

oldfashioned yeah that's every single person that's messaged me, probably 35/50 are 'hi' messages from people I'm not interested in or creeps. The 15 left over is people I've been interested in, out of them there's been probably 10 where we've had a conversation and I'd want to meet in person. And only 1 has ever made it to that point!

These musings have nothing to do with the fact that POF guy hasn't replied to my message asking if he wants to meet me for drinks, honest

oh, I've also put a few drinks in the pub down as my ideal first date.

What sort of distance do you all consider to be too far? I've had messages from men who are 2 or 3 hours away, that's too far isn't it?

Jarlin I have a slow burner too and yes it is frustrating!! Been chatting since October and managed two dates. One being his mate's wedding.

I call him oddjobman and to be honest I think he does everyone in the world's odd jobs cos he never got time to see me!!

crow I have had a few "hi" messages - maybe 20 and have had maybe 15 creepy are you as sweet / innocent as you look messages. Had some normal ones though but lots of messages from men that just talk about how women have hurt them and broken their hearts!

Meant to be meeting 2 men this week and possibly a couple next week. Going to have to make myself presentable!

indecisive I reckon 45 min drive is as far as I would want to go. 1 hour tops.....in an ideal world someone 10-20 mins away or so. Life's too hard to fit in dates around kids and contact times without having a tedious journey every time. But that's just me, having said that if its the perfect guy then it wouldn't really matter....(which one of us is indecisive again??)
