But, we don't even know if that is what he believes, do we?
We haveht had any indepth discussion on the ins and outs of his beliefes, just as wr haveht with mine. Surely Thats a part of getting to know someone? And if and when you come across things that don't sit right with you, you decide what you want to do and re evaluate.

As far as I can see, from a quick google, there is not a blanket rule for buddists to be pro life.
So I can't see any reason not to meet the.guy for a coke.

Sorry Poppa, to be honest, she sounds like she just wants to be sure, and is sort of wanting more, but not wanting to lose the friendship, and just seeing where it takes you.

DENMAN03 welcome to our dating thread, adn sorry you are having a trouble, here is where we come to spill all, so dont be shy, i mean sometimes it get abit TMI, but there we go, its good to talk!

I was up late last night chatting to someone, and seeing where it will take us! Hopefully we will get on.....just a week away and already nervous and panicky! STUPID STUPID ME, but i am always like this when i go "out" with someone.

PoppaRob · 27/03/2012 10:31

Thanks gang! When she first put the word on me I said straight out that if it was going to screw up the friendship then let's not go there. She was certain it'd be fine, and asked me to go to her place for two nights and came to mine later that week. Then minimal contact from her, with the explanation that she'd been crook, was starting a new job etc. etc. I'm actually not pissed off at her 'cos she is someone whose friendship I cherish, but it annoys me that if the communication isn't there in a friendship what hope is there for good communication in a relationship?

As for the profile... Most of the local women of eligible age have been on the sites for 2 to 4 years, as have I, so they've seen my old profiles. The new players seem to all have photos taken from 50 metres away and very little info on the profiles. I think I'm just going to sit out for a while and see what happens.

HI everyone

Been lurking but not posting as been really busy at home/work recently.

Hi Denmano3

Lucky escape after your weekend date Watch, amazed you managed to stick it out for so long.

I have been thinnking/talking to Mr Yacht about moving in with me in a couple of months. I mentioned it to my DC's last night and he has been staying at mine 5/6 nights each week and things are still going really well. My DD is really keen but my DS is worried that he will feel left out so I'll take my time and make sure I still spend lots of time with just the 3 of us too so that he is Ok with it all. Phew relationships can be a juggle no matter how much fun Grin

samhaircin · 27/03/2012 12:32

(coming out of lurkedom for a minute. I've been taking a break from internet dating but am hooked on reading all the stories)

Watch the buddist thing wouldn't put me off at all and I'm an atheist. He could still turn out to be unsuitable, or a pain in the butt for any reason, but the buddist thing on it's own wouldn't put me off. I have known a few people who were buddist, or leaning that way, and they were fine.

I quite like some of the ideas from that tradition, though it can depend on someones interpretation and application of those ideas, and whether they feel the need to ram them down your throat (which would be unbuddist of them I think but that wouldn't stop some people). That other date in the pub sounded like a date from hell.

Zany, so glad to hear things are going well for you. It would be great if we would all meet someone we got along with.

Bitofastate · 27/03/2012 13:13

Oh God, really sorry Watch, wasn't trying to put you off meeting him at all, I'm sure there are many shades of grey of belief, and in his (my friend's) case more about the man than the religion iyswim. It just sparked the memory in me of what I'd found out about him recently and made me post (probably in haste and incorrectly) Grin

Please do go for a drink, I'm living vicariously through you lot Grin

hatesponge · 27/03/2012 13:34

Watch I think you should meet him as well. He surely cant be any worse a date than the guy from last weekend!

I put a new profile on POF last night. I wish I hadn't bothered. 25 emails, deleted every single one. All too old, too young, too obviously thick or too unattractive. Or a combination thereof. This scattergun approach to dating is not off to a good start Hmm

watchoutforthatsnail · 27/03/2012 16:01

25 is loads!!! not one out of them was worth sharing a few messages with??

what area are you in? could we all look and PM you some we think might be worth a look?

I am going to meet him, i dont thnk hes going to be awful at all. he hasnt made any comment about anything in regards to that, nor my rum drinking rare steak eating ways... its all cool :)

OP posts:
PostBellumBugsy · 27/03/2012 16:06

Definitely meet him Watch. My buddhist friends are lovely & eat meat & drink as well. There are lots of different strands of buddhism, some more extreme than others (bit like Christianity really). I'm willing to bet, he'll buy you a drink unlike Mr Needy Tightarse Texter!!!!

like the last ones profile.... not sure if pof is being glitchy, but it appears the first 20 pages of men are made up of about 10 men with lots of profiles???

PostBellumBugsy · 27/03/2012 16:27

Not sure about the joke at the bottom of the last one's profile: "A slap up meal at Mcdonalds ....oor make a meal of it and mcdonalds then get a slap haha". I'm not PC, spent far too many years working for tossers in the City - but I never find jokes like that funny.

watchoutforthatsnail · 27/03/2012 16:30

and im 50/50 on the buddist cancelling anyway.
He had two dates lined up last summer, one which i cancelled, one which he cancelled. So, it could go either way..

AND, did i mention about the really hot aus guy? no? i have a ' date' with him next wed. for date read rum and sex. If i go or not literlly just depends on hormone levels next wed afternoon.

OP posts:
PostBellumBugsy · 27/03/2012 16:37

Hot Auzzie guy sounds good Watch. I could do with rum & sex!

watchoutforthatsnail · 27/03/2012 16:43

it sounds good from a shag and go approach and a why not, i have all this free time and no child approach.
it might not sounds good if someone judged me on it, which people do.......

OP posts:
PostBellumBugsy · 27/03/2012 16:48

Not me! I also have about 5 childless days coming up & if I could fill them with sex & rum I definitely would. Grin Judgey people are just jealous!

watchoutforthatsnail · 27/03/2012 16:52

well, this is my thinking as well.
I can either
a) sit on my own and eat chocolate eggs
b) do all the housework/gardening in the world
c) bug people to do stuff with me ( read, take pity on me, the only single person in the world)
d) pass a few evenings shagging and drinking without it impacting other areas of my life.

the reality will be a combo of the above, but without d in it, it wold be a lot more boring.

watchoutforthatsnail · 27/03/2012 16:56

post - have you done the IE experiment yet? if yo uhave 5 days free and facny rum and sex, its the way to go...

OP posts:
PostBellumBugsy · 27/03/2012 16:57

No, what's the IE experiment?

watchoutforthatsnail · 27/03/2012 17:02

change your profile settings to ' intimate encounter'
make your pic hidden ( it will not impact your results) just send it out to those you like.
You will get literally 1000's of messages, mostly from men who state on their profiles they are looking for ' a relationship'
some will be sleezy, you might get some cock pics, some might be rude, - the block button is your friend.
BUT - you will also find one or two worth meeting for a drink with a view to something casual and fun :)

Thats if thats what you fancy doing with your few childfree days... if you are looking for something more longterm, goes without saying, its a bad idea,

big ben was from that, as was the teacher and the surfer. The only one i regret is the teacher, not because he was horrible or anything, and the sex was good, but he messed about and brought feelings and future stuff into it then just stood me up.

DENMAN03 · 27/03/2012 17:46

Hi, thanks for the welcome.

Well Ive been doing internet dating for quite a while now..a few nice dates but nothing spectacular. I joined one site (casual dating one and I think they link you in to POF etc) and got lots of interest!! Many cock pictures and lots of unsuitable people and actually felt a bit like Bruce Almighty trying to keep up!!

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I have been on 4 dates with a really gorgeous lovely guy.. He was really keen and kept wanting to meet me so I on our last date I ended up staying at his house. We had fantastic sex, he was loving, attentive and said all the right things. On the saturday morning he said he would call me. Didnt hear a thing so I sent him a text on Sunday to ask when he wanted to meet again and got back 'Friday was nice but dont think there is any spark'!!! Felt really gutted actually. I should have realised he was only after one thing. I nearly didnt go on Friday because I saw he was online and I imagined it wasnt just taking his profile down..

Now feel a real fool. I thought I actually had the bullshit radar turned fully up! I had even told my mum about him.. Why do men do this?

lovesineffable · 27/03/2012 18:11

'Why do men do this'
not exactly sure but somewhere up thread we outlined a theory that it makes them feel like james bond
not exactly sure what the best remedy is..some version of turn off your hormones, get your own license to kill and make like Janice BondGrin

Milkandlotsofwineplease · 27/03/2012 18:22

Hi all,

Could somebody give me a bit of an ego boost please. I've just been messaged by the hot guy I went out with last week saying he didn't feel the 'animal attraction' he was looking for, and just wanted to be 'friends'. He could have told me that on the bloody night, instead of saying we should go out again sometime.

Why is it always the people you DON'T fancy who like you, and the ones you like don't? It is starting to seriously pee me off.

I told him I'm not looking for anymore friends. I'm already in love with one guy I have to be just 'friends' with. I'm not keen to add anymore to the listSad

hatesponge · 27/03/2012 19:14

:( for Milk and Denman. Men are really a bit crap most of the time sometimes.

Watch, all 3 (I couldn't see the 3rd one of the 4) you linked to were much better than any of the 25 I got. They were seriously bottom of the barrel, makes you fear for the future of the human race (if that's the standard of single men left!) stuff.

Having said that, I probably would have deleted all 3 if they'd messaged me. First one seems like a pretentious arse, I doubt we would get on. 4th one I didn't like the slap comment.

Second one I probably find the most attractive of the 3, and he's in the next town to me, however he looks a bit like the evil Ex. Not good.

Which means I probably wouldn't contact any of them - or reply if they'd contacted me.

I'm being overly fussy aren't I? Blush

ps - if anyone wants to find me a man (if I promise to try and be more open minded Grin) I'm in the vicinity of postcode BR5.

lovesineffable · 27/03/2012 19:26

milk tell the hot guy to go fuck himselfAngry
imo 'just wanted to be 'friends'' = he just wants to keep you dangling in case he fancies a shag cuz it boosts his ego to know you fancy him

sponge 'seems like a pretentious arse' when I read mens profiles they either sound like pretentious arses or thick, often both.
It's either appalling clichés or appalling grammarConfused

watchoutforthatsnail · 27/03/2012 20:04

Sponge, yes :)

Why dont you email the slap one and a few messages Will tell if its just a badly thought out joke, or if he's a tosser.

The one that is being written off because he looks a bit like the ex????!!!! Come onx just send a message, what if he's really nice?
