General internet dating support and chit chat thread

Relationships seems the most appropriate place for this I think? Happy to ask for it to be moved if it's maybe better in _chat or something.

Anyway!

Chit chat your dating/internet dating claptrap here!

Also your hints and tips please for dating in the shark pit on the internet

I'll start.

I'm 31, single and rather fed up of it now. Have a few internet dating profiles, am trying to improve my social life and get out more, even looking out for possible additional temp jobs just to be.... 'out there' a bit more.

Even had a go at cosmic ordering which has been cropping up in dating related threads recently. Now I'm a very scientific and cynical kind of person but when it comes to my (currently appalling) love life I will try anything to give it a bit of a boost. Whether that be focusing the mind on the task in hand or strange unknown forces I care not.

Shiney... have you told him of your expectations for the ring? Something around the size of the Greek national debt is called for.

I guess there is only one way to find out Shiny................ in the name of research you understand Grin

lubeybooby · 29/09/2011 14:29

Excellent Shiney that has to be included somewhere!!

I'm thinking issues too. I have no idea what kind, but something. I mean, I don't blame him for wanting to marry you - but to voice that so early on?? Very weird. very very.

"somewhat taken aback" - I know you Brits are known for understatement but that's putting it mildly! Either he is joking and feels very comfortable with you or there's a chance he's a delusional nutcase and you'll find the kids' pet rabbit bubbling away on your stove!

Just spat my drink out at 'IS HE GOING TO BE THE TYPE TO CRY AFTER SEX?' - only time will tell and I dont mean Timeforme. Grin

Loving the new title btw

Thanks Lubey

This thread is giving me internet dating envy. I kinda wish I was back there trawling through the shite emails. I never had anyone to share it with when I was doing it, it's so much more fun this way.

charlottesmum5 · 29/09/2011 19:46

:( Mr Hot but dangerous just text me and said distance is too far and my kids are too young!!! (His are 12 and 16) (Mine are 9,10 and 17).
Mr Engineer has made me so cross today - still won't commit to 3rd date but keeps trying to sext me! I'm ignoring the rude texts and then he will text and say why are you ignoring me. Arghhh, I have lost respect for him now. Anyway I've joined OKC and I shall be on there all night Grin

lubeybooby · 29/09/2011 19:59

Charlottes... head over here to thread number 2 as this one is nearly full - will answer your post there

Hi all - Ive been reading this thread with nodding agreement with everyones comments. Ive been on dating websites since I moved to a different area 5 years ago. Met about 9 - had short relationships with 4 and 2 one night flings and the others didnt progress after one date. My main gripe about internet dating is when they do the disappearing act. The first one of the 4 relationships I was quite perplxed - by the third one I thought - oh its the norm Shock. And it always happened with me sending a friend request on fb. Anyways Im not giving up. I am chatting a nice man from POF and surprisingly he added me as a friend on fb so I know hes not got anything to hide. My only probelm is that he lives over an hour away which would mean that it would only be a weekend thing. Ive had a quick meet with him but not yet finalised a proper mate. We have chatted loads on fb and we have expressed how much we like each other. My problem is because he's over an hour away - is it worth pursuing a long distance thing? What are everybodys experience with ldr's?
