The One Before

And All Others Before That

So, this is The Brave Babes Battle Bus.

All are welcome, regardless of your background, stage of sobriety, or anything else. Smile

I'm Mouse and have been here since June 2010, and in control of my drinking since August 2nd 2010.

You will find unconditional support here. Always.

Whatever you feel about drinking (or not), we've been in your shoes. Some more than once.

So, come say hi, come grab a seat. There is always an open door and a warm welcome on this Bus.

p.s Golly, I thought your full name was because you like Audrey Hepburn, in Breakfast at Tiffany's, and the shortened version makes me think "jolly hockeysticks, Joyce Grenfell" nothing to do with dollies Smile.

bafanatheSober · 19/03/2011 18:58

Hey thurso
I shall certainly adopt the fingers in my ears, although I might not do it literally - people may think that I am peculiar Grin.

I am glad that DH is seeking help, maybe a gentle conversation about how playing "mummy" is not a turn on.

Just had a long conversation with BF as she has just started dating again. The more I speak to people, the more I realise that being single is a really really good thing, although why does my heart tell me otherwise Hmm.

Fantastic news for DC2,

BMI flies into Edinburgh - but its not cheap, I tend to take the train up and down to London alot, and tbh it's cheap, reliable and when you factor in travelling to the aiport, checkin etc - it's just as fast!
There are Premier Inns in Edinburgh, generally quite cheap, other BB's know Edinburgh better than me though.

venusandmars · 19/03/2011 19:40

Aw thurso Edinburgh is a lovely place for students (and a lovely place for visiting parents). Easyjet fly to Edinburgh from Luton, Gatwick or Stanstead; Scotairways (citijet) fly from London City; BMI flies from Heathrow; BA flies from London City, Gatwick or Heathrow. You do live near London, don't you?

I'd suggest somewhere to stay in Newington area - it is close to the uni halls of residence so dc can see the area) and within walking distance of the uni. Try this place or this place or this place. let me know if they don't suit your taste / budget and I'll suggest some others.

Hope the evening passes OK for you, tough place to be in, I know Sad

venusandmars · 19/03/2011 19:41

thurso, maybe we could even meet up for a cup of coffee?

dementedma · 19/03/2011 20:16

48 pairs of shoes???? SERIOUSLY??
I have - let me see - two pairs of trainers (one pair second hand), 1 pair of black ankle boots, 1 pair of brown ankle boots, 1 pair of black court shoes, 1 pair of brown high heeled shoes, 1 pair of black shoe/boot thingies, 1 pair Fatface furry slipper boots, 1 pair converse boots, 1 pair CottonTraders deck shoes, 1 pair summer sandals, 1 pair strappy going-out shoes.
12 in total, including slippers. And that seems a lot written down Smile
Thurso - glad DH has seen doctor. The plus side of him being on ADs (if he is) is that it will seriously reduce his libido.Grin. Don't know what I've got to smile about, it wil be the dreaded Sunday morning servicing before I know where I am!!
Great news on Edinburgh uni - DD1 got a rejection from there and was gutted. When are you coming up? I live about 30 miles away over the bridge in Fife. We could meet up for a drink cup of tea.

thursomuchtolookforwardto · 19/03/2011 20:18

I would love that so much Venus, are you actually in Edinburgh?
I'm nearest Gatwick, will have a look at the places you suggest right now.

thursomuchtolookforwardto · 19/03/2011 20:20

Ma you too, would be so fab Grin

bafanatheSober · 19/03/2011 20:32

Don't leave me out of a mini meet, I am also about 30 miles away from Edinburgh.

Demented -Blush in my defence, some of these shoes are very very old, and cannot be chucked for sentimental reasons Smile.
I tend not to be too hard on shoes, so they do last a very long time. Blush - and JWN does appear to have more than me.

dementedma · 19/03/2011 20:59

JWN has more shoes than Imelda Marcos!
Are we on for a meet up then? I'm suddenly really scared - what if I recognise one of you?
What if I have been sharing my drink problems and marital worries with someone I work with?
Spit it out bafana and Venus - where do you actually LIVE?

bafanatheSober · 19/03/2011 21:06

This is true demented but it makes mine look small and insignificant by comparison Grin.

Have PM'd you!

thursomuchtolookforwardto · 19/03/2011 21:07

Ma you won't have met me, because I'm down south, but if I tell you that I am tall, and look old and tired, shall I wear a red rose?

It would be great though, we can forget what we already know, although deep down we are a sister act (honorary miflaw), I would like to give you hugs in person.

Re; the shoes...I have my old shoes in labelled boxes, I shall never see their like again Grin.

thursomuchtolookforwardto · 19/03/2011 21:11

Ok feel old and tired try very hard not to look it Grin

dementedma · 19/03/2011 21:25

I look clapped out and exhausted too - easily recognisable Grin

bafanatheSober · 19/03/2011 21:26

I am absolutely convinced that you will not look old and tired!!
Although today I also feel about 90! Grin

None of us do - we are all fab fantastic and full of finesse!!
Struggled to keep going with F thing there!

Re shoes - I have a pair that I got when I was 18, probably the first fashionable shoes I ever bought. Their style is really back in at the moment, my daughter just laughed when I offered them to her! the youth of today.

Just a quick note to say today went really well. I met DP (gulp) DC's today and they met mine. Could not have gone any better. His DC's are lovely, his daughter said that she thought we make a lovely couple Grin. Really pleased.

Hope everone else is OK

Bafana the woman at the meeting sounds a b*h when you have given so much support to your FIL

Isindie if you were happy to have a half bottle then is this progress?

Thurso sounds like things are llokig hopeful - you certainly are talking to each other which is good

48 pais of shoes - I daren't count although the hound has managed to get rid of a few favourite pairs

Noteven hope you OK.

x

venusandmars · 20/03/2011 08:53

You lot are frickin' shoe freaks! In the winter I wear slippers when I'm inside, and when I'm outside I wear a pair of black ankle boots or my walking boots or my wellies. In summer I wear bare-feet inside, and when I'm outside I wear flip-flops or sandals. I have a pair of black shoes (kitten heels, ridiculously out of fashion but I like them) and a pair of brown shoes (as above but with sling back) - the last time I wore them I had to walk home bare-foot across the park (avoiding the dog shit) becuase my feet had had enough. I think that makes a total of 8 including wellies, walking boots, slippers and flip-flops - which is err... 4 pairs of shoes. God what did I spend my money on? Ah yes, I remember!!

I am both excited and scared about meeting you lot in real life. What dates are you going to be here thurso? I have quite a lot of things on in April, and I would be gutted if I missed you lot (despite feeling very nervous about it). I've pm'd you thurso, ma and bafana. Now I'm off to worry about whether I'll have to get new shoes for the occasion....

dementedma · 20/03/2011 09:17

morning all
thurso yeah, give us dates - April is a bugger with holidays and all. I am away the 10th to 14th taking DS to London - hope we don't pass each other going in opposite directions! Sunday morning deed is over and done with so can now relax and enjoy the rest of the dayGrin
I am also pretty apprehensive about meeting RL people I have been spilling my guts to on here, but I'm willing to give it a go if you babes are.
Venus Bafana have pmd you back.
mouse how are you doing dear one?
indie you feeling ok this morning. If you stopped at a half bottle, bloody well done you. Wish I had Blush

venusandmars · 20/03/2011 09:35

Ma you could take up religion and start getting up VERY early on a Sunday morning to go to church Grin

indie well done for stopping at half bottle - was that a shared bottle, or did you actually leave half the wine in a bottle? If it was the latter, then Bloody amazing!

jesuswhatnext · 20/03/2011 10:34

oh im Envy Envy Envy I WANT TO MEET EVERYONE TO!!!!! ITS NOT FAIR!!!!! Grin im wailing and rocking now! and stamping my feet, and talking of feet, i have the PERFECT pair for meet-ups with brave babes! Grin

thursomuchtolookforwardto · 20/03/2011 10:42

Morning!

Ma when does this decrease in libido thing kick in, eh? Grin

We have just had lovely breakfast of bagels, fish fingers and tomatoes Hmm (was lovely, honest!) , sitting in the garden.

Now I have stacks of ironing to do where Dc2 has been away this week, so am going to see if my iron cord stretches so that I can do it outside (loon club badge, on its way, I imagine!)

Well done Indie, how was it at 2am.

Ma, Venus, Bafana I will pm you when I know the date we are coming up, as I have just read a book where the murderer chooses his victims from a social networking site!!!, because they post their whereabouts! I know this isn't the same, but can never be too careful Smile.

Off to iron....See you later xxxxxx

Mouseface · 20/03/2011 11:00

Morning Babes.

Sorry to see that you have a cowbag in your meetings bafana - do you want me to 'deal with her' for you? I know people you see......... Grin

Just tell her to "fuck the fuck off you fuckity fucker, and when you get there, fuck off again" xxxx

thurso - great news about DC. I know your heart must be breaking thinking about the distance but the really huge plus is that there are some fantastic Babes in that neck of the woods who are happy to meet you and hold your hand for a while.

We are very lucky people to have such caring passengers on this Bus.

Re DH - sounds as though those baby steps are moving you both forward, don't rush the sex. Tell him how you feel. You can't swap and change from 'mother' to 'lover' by whipping your bra off! Grin

You seem so much brighter even though you are dealing with a lot. Keep going Brave Babe xxxx

Well, if we're talking shoes, I own about 20 pairs, I have some 4" hot red heels that I've worn once, for about an hour! They killed my hips. I also have a pair of £80 black leather fuck me boots, DH loves them but again, no can do due to my wonky legs, they were a treat to myself once I'd gotten back on my feet after leaving my violent X.

So these days it's walking shoes, pumps or 'old lady' shoes as DD calls them. Bloody comfy too!

Had a fab day yesterday with friends, had lunch, went for a walk around the castle, park and fields in the glorious sunshine, the blue sky went on forever. Made me Smile for ages.

Then back to watch England get trounced the rugby and had three glasses of shandy, with a crisps.

Felt like we were watching in the pub. Grin

Nemo is still not great re his breathing and DH has it now.......

Off to my folk's house in Manc today but will check back in later.

Hope you are all okay and not struggling with life today.

IsinDe - WELL DONE! Stopping at half a bottle is no easy task for you is it? Fab of you to take that control. xxxxx

jesuswhatnext · 20/03/2011 11:40

mouse!, the clue is in the name!, 'fuck me' boots can be worn laying down!, there is NO need to walk in them! WinkGrin

have a good day! Smile

we have friends coming over for lunch, thier little girl is 5 and dinky, she likes to get all my shoes out and clip-clop round the house in them! Grin, i dont mind at all but i do draw the line at the laboutins and hide them! Grin

dementedma · 20/03/2011 12:25

Nice to hear everyone sounding chipper - what is this blue sky and sunshine of which you speak?
jwn stop that tantrum innediately!! You can't come to the meet up because you have far nicer shoes than anyone else and you'll make us feel inferior Grin
Thurso your post made me laugh out loud, at the serial killer thing...you just can't be too careful can you? Venus, Bafana and I will be waiting for yoooooooooo
The libido thing takes a while to kick in but it WILL. It was great when DH was on ADs a while back and lost all interest.

maddogsandenglishmen · 20/03/2011 13:28

Hello all! Enjoying gorgeous clear skies here too. And my adorably fat baby is sleeping in my lap.

Been following the thread on and off, but can't keep up with my 1 handed typing!

I drank 3 beers over the course of a week, last week. Hardly a lot. But by the third one, I started hearing that voice again, whispering "more, more" and feeling the sense of panic as the can finished. I could feel the compulsion, how it could all creep up on me again. So I thought Enough, and I'm back to not drinking at all, one day at a time.

Will try to be an active member of the thread whenever I can!
