The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Carry On Past The New Year Wine Offers!

1000 replies

Mouseface · 21/01/2011 22:19

Hello all.

We are the Brave Babes. We're on the Battle Bus, travelling around sobriety and going day by day, hour by hour, through the detox hell of not drinking, cutting down or sometimes even not.

Come say hi. We won't bite. Grin

No doubt one of us has been where you are now......

It's fine. No judging, no nasty jibes, just us, the BBs.

Come meet the others..................

I can't join you........I've been supping the odd glass of vinoGrin

dementedma · 21/01/2011 22:27

orienteer yes you can. that's exactly why you can. but i think we have to fill the old thread first or we'll get shouted at!!!

venusandmarzipan · 21/01/2011 22:30

I'm venus. I'm an alcoholic.

I'm not drinking now, and this set of multiple threads has been a lifeline for me. People here have been universally supportive and non-judgemental, friendly, funny, sad and honest.

Welcome Orienteer.

notevenamousie · 22/01/2011 06:39

I'm notevenamousie and I'm an alcoholic.
I have made some serious mistakes since I faced the "a" word in November - have mostly not drunk but made two terrible mistakes. I am in AA, struggling through, one day at a time.

dementedma · 22/01/2011 09:38

and I'm Dementedma. I don't think I'm an alcoholic but i drink too much, or did, until I boarded this here bus. I was certainly on a downhill slope but am clawing my way back up.
Silver how are you this morning?

Anonymousbird · 22/01/2011 13:59

Hello, marking my place on the new thread.
I am Bird or Anon and I know I have been drinking too much, and drinking every day until recently. Since I got on the bus a couple of weeks ago, I've not stopped completely but have cut it right down, having several days a week with nothing at all on the booze front.

This thread is great, so much fantastic support, real life ups and downs. It's all here and it's a real "brick"!

Anonymousbird · 22/01/2011 14:01

And yes, Silver - how are you doing?

And Thurso - did the glasses in the bath trick work?!

Isindie - how was DP's night out? Did separating the DT's help?! How old are they, BTW?

dementedma · 22/01/2011 14:06

Laughing at Anons post - if you are new here you won't have understood a word of that or wondering why people are putting glasses in their bathwater!!

Anonymousbird · 22/01/2011 14:50

Sorry, yes, it is a bit Roberta Random, isn't it?! oops.

Rubyredlips · 22/01/2011 15:06

Hi I'm Ruby and I drink too much, not every night but when I drink I can't stop and blackout. I could be anywhere and haven't usually got a clue how I got home. I do embarrassing things when I'm drunkConfusedand I'm sick of cringing about my past.
So, I am trying to control my drinking and I have been very good for about 6 weeks now.

Long may it continue before I totally ruin my life Blush

dementedma · 22/01/2011 15:52

6 weeks? Way to go Ruby!!
has Silver surfaced yet?

thursomuchtolookforwardto · 22/01/2011 16:10

Hello, hello,

crikey, I'm a dork brain, I've been hanging about on the other thread, waiting to see how Silver is, and you're all over here Grin.

Noteven I hope you have a lovely time with your mum, enjoy yourself in the moment, if you can.

Anon I did have a read in the bath, but the advice was for ma, did it work ma? Think reading in the bath with glasses on sounds very Bond girl Smile.

Venus re Dh, you are right, he is not much of a talker, and you are so right, he is my complete soul mate, and so loving and giving in so many ways. He is my real tower of strength, and anchor, if I am wobbly about anything, and, as you will have read, I am sometimes the same for him, too. We fit each others puzzle Grin.
I hope I don't come across as smug and coupley, that's the last thing I want to sound like, and believe me, there are plenty of fireworks, too! I just need to remind myself sometimes how lucky I am.

Well done Ruby.

What is everyone doing tonight? We are going to see "The Kings Speech", has anyone seen it yet?

Silver66 · 22/01/2011 16:22

just back from hospital - yep have fractured my rib - given me co-codamol so just taken some and waiting to see if it works - please god I hope so - it is sooo painful.

Welcome to anyone new.

Off for a nap after a pretty sleepless night last night Grin xxx

thursomuchtolookforwardto · 22/01/2011 16:29

Shock Oh Silver poor you, tuck up tight and sleep well, big hugs.

Mouse are you around. Did you have a good morning?

Anonymousbird · 22/01/2011 18:05

Silver - take care, co-codamol are quite strong so fingers crossed they help you.

DH (out playing rugby) is going to need some wonder drugs when he gets home - the silly boy arse has fucked a bit more his already royally fucked up knee.

Great! Oh, and he is on a slow pub crawl home... however, he accompanied by his completely tee-total friend (who is also driving him home) so hopefully it won't all go tits up!

venusandmarzipan · 22/01/2011 18:20

Poor silver - will you still manage to get to your AA meeting tonight? And I don't have to remind you not to drink while you are taking co-codamol, or else you might fall over and break your other ribs!

thurso I went and looked on the other thread first, but realised all the activity was taking place over here. I am usually the one hassling people to fill up the space on the old thread. I think that most long term posters would know to look for a new thread, but I do worry that someone new might find the old thread and post a cry for help, only to have their cry unanswered while we all chat merrily over here. I've re-posted the link to this thread just in case that happens.

thursomuchtolookforwardto · 22/01/2011 18:35

Bless you Venus, what a thoughtful thing to do. I wish I'd thought to do that.

Evening all.

I'm in a whole world of pain, not as bad as Silver's. Tramadol awaits.

Been super busy decluttering the house and making DH fill the car with stuff for the tip.

Lots of stuff for Freecycle and the charity shop too.

Feel better for doing that.

Welcome to Orienteer

Bird - I have decided that to me you are Bird as that's what I call my best friend Grin

Hope that's okay?

Silver - do you have any tape? Like big elastoplast? That would help if you tape your ribs up....

You are all very norty for not filling the last thread up! Tsk. Wink

OP posts:
Anonymousbird · 22/01/2011 19:46

Very happy with Bird!!! Impressed with your declutter, mouse, I need a bit of one of them soon....

Ho hum. Well it's nearly 8 on a Saturday, not going out (but VERY jealous of Thurso going to the flicks, that film sounds fan bloody tastic).

Not opened the wine yet. It's in the fridge, DH isn't home, DC going to bed in 20 mins... the scene is set.

I'm holding out, and actually quite pleased with myself as I know DH is "en pub" as we speak, so in the past I would have happily just tucked in on the basis that, if he is, so can I, even if we are in different places!

Sorry for bath-in-the-glasses confusion - flipping from thread to thread clearly is beyond me to achieve properly.

Well, good evenings one and all, off to cuddle the DC on the sofa before they trot off. Smile

Silver66 · 22/01/2011 20:16

Thank for all your lovely messages. The co-codamol helps but it still bloody hurts!

Mouse apparently it's not good to tape your ribs as is stops you using that lung to breathe properly and that can cause pneumonia - which i have already had twice - and most certainly do not want again. I am sitting very still on the bed and milking it for all it's worth Wink

Couldn't face sitting on hard plastic chair in freezing church hall this evening but am going to lunch time one tomorrow Grin xxx

EmbracingTheTruth · 22/01/2011 20:50

Hiya guys,
I'm still here,
Sooo much better than before, but still drinking on and off. I'm not so worried about it. This thread is still keeping me sane!

Mouseface · 22/01/2011 20:50

Silver - I had my ribs taped when I hit a tree snowboarding in Canada years ago so thought they still did it.

Or maybe just there?

Glad the co-codamol is kicking in.

Off to bed here soon, rough day with the little chap and it's my night off so sleepers and some earplugs should do the trick!

Bird - are you planning to drink all the wine? What's you plan tonight lovely or are you seeing how you feel?

Isinde - I'll be late for the bus in the morning...... let me know where you are and I'll catch up xx
