10 weeks ago i started a thread asking for help - i was in a very desperate place, totally dependent on alchohol, unhappy, lonely and floundering around trying to make sense of it all. i was in danger of losing everything i hold dear.

in those few short weeks, i have got my life back and picked up a few computer friends along the way - we help each other, support each other, and laugh and cry together - if you would like to join us, please feel free - no judging, preaching, sermonising or moralising - we are simply ordinary people with a bloody awful illness!

maddogs - I think that anything that takes you out of your usual routine, even if just for a few minutes, is very helpful. So getting out for a snack and away from your desk should really help.

Mouseface · 11/08/2010 11:08
Wink
MIFLAW · 11/08/2010 11:08

Goodness me, Maddogs - you were at the Old Place too? Top hole - doubtless we passed each other during Bumps!

I was at LMH by the way. So there.

RedMoomin · 11/08/2010 11:09

Grin at the 'casualness' from maddogs!

MIFLAW · 11/08/2010 11:09

"I am finding that I feel really well and happy until around 3 in the afternoon and then I crash into a horrible pit of despair until I go to bed Any suggestions?"

Have you tried going to bed at 2.55?

RedMoomin · 11/08/2010 11:11

I think maddogs works MIFLAW and her employers might be somewhat surprised to find her curled up under her desk asleep Grin

Mouseface · 11/08/2010 11:18

MIFLAW Grin

maddogsandenglishmen · 11/08/2010 11:18

Would love to sleep at 3, would be perfect. Perhaps we should move to Spain next...

Miflaw - more likely we passed each other in the pub!

MIFLAW · 11/08/2010 11:20

Happy to speak a little Russian, but can't type in Cyrillic (and guess it might cause Mumsnet to explode if I did.)

"Menya zavut Sean i ya - alkogolik!"

MIFLAW · 11/08/2010 11:21

Pub, river, college library - all the same if you get a drink in with you.

When were you "up" and/or which college? I was there 92-96.

ChristianaTheSeventh · 11/08/2010 11:21

Thanks MIFLAW

I think I've had depression all my life, as a child I sometimes didn't want to exisst Sad, I was bullied very young at school because I was clever Sad Sad Sad and had zero social skills.

I have therapy at 1.30, feel back to square one.

Toclearmyhead · 11/08/2010 11:22

I understood that!

RedMoomin · 11/08/2010 11:25

christi - it is very positive that you are doing something about your depression and anxiety. I too had some of the feelings and experiences you describe from childhood.

MIFLAW · 11/08/2010 11:27

Christiana

I have to say that my own childhood sounds happier than yours, but I did always feel different. I too was bullieds for being clever (except at my primary, which was a feeder school for HMP Canterbury, it was for being "posh," even though my dad drovbe a forklift, because clever and posh are the same thing, don't you know?) Luckily I went to a state grammar where it was okay to be clever and that side of things got a lot better.

All I can tell you, though, is that, whatever happened while you were a child, you are now an adult and can change things.

But one excellent way of worsening depression and low self-worth (and seriously fucking with anti-depression meds, incidentally) is to consume alcohol to excess. You need to deal with this as a matter of urgency if you want to have a chance of the rest getting better.

maddogsandenglishmen · 11/08/2010 11:29

Oh we missed each other MIFLAW - I was doing my DPhil there from 98 - 2003.

maddogsandenglishmen · 11/08/2010 11:34

Christi, that's so sad that you didn't want to exist :( Did you use alcohol initially to "boost" your social skills and seem cooler?

desiretochange · 11/08/2010 11:43

Morning all, resisted temptation to visit friend and partake in our usual 2 bottles of wine (and if I am going to be totally honest there have been times when we have opened a third bottle).
Read through list of questions and made myself answer them as honestly as possible and I told myself that if I called up to her then I would regret it because I would feel shitty this morning, I would waste money on wine, probably take-away food and taxi home.
So Day 4 for me:)

TrinityRhino · 11/08/2010 11:44

'Have you tried going to bed at 2.55pm?'
