10 weeks ago i started a thread asking for help - i was in a very desperate place, totally dependent on alchohol, unhappy, lonely and floundering around trying to make sense of it all. i was in danger of losing everything i hold dear.

in those few short weeks, i have got my life back and picked up a few computer friends along the way - we help each other, support each other, and laugh and cry together - if you would like to join us, please feel free - no judging, preaching, sermonising or moralising - we are simply ordinary people with a bloody awful illness!

with ice and a slice. My first danger time of the day is 3.30, had friends round today so felt like I needed a 'drink'!

algee · 10/08/2010 16:27

ah yes, Confused would have been better than lots of ??????? re muller cow. Must stop faffing and pack for my trip...

Toclearmyhead · 10/08/2010 16:29

Well, it was meant to be confused but looks slightly horrified!

Where are you going algee? I'm sure you've said but my mind is a muddle :)

Mouseface · 10/08/2010 16:29

Muller's dairy is in Shropshire. According to their company blurb, they have the best cows in the UK, or even the world.

Tis where I am. Smile

Toclearmyhead · 10/08/2010 16:32

Lovely! I need to read properly too- right, I'm off ds is demanding computer rights (I have been promising for 30 minutes :o)

RedMoomin · 10/08/2010 16:38

OK Babes, I really, really hope that tonight is slightly more serene on here! I am off to a meeting later and will be back in the morning - for more cryptic clues, ha ha!

Keep SAFE please everyone (including me, of course!) x x

MIFLAW · 10/08/2010 16:44

Fact fans

York is AA central, did you know that?

True - the General Service Office is there.

RedMoomin · 10/08/2010 16:45

I do indeed know that MIFLAW! It's nice knowing that HQ is not in London for a change Wink Smile !

algee · 10/08/2010 16:46

night moomin.

Bloody hell MIFLAW...I'd best sort myse;lf out or I'll be spending as much on petrol as I was on booze!

desiretochange · 10/08/2010 16:46

Going to ask for little help here . . long evening ahead and am trying to convince myself that it wouldn't be so bad to call up to friend for some wine this evening as I haven't been up there in the last couple of nights.. Need kick up the rear end:(

algee · 10/08/2010 16:49

KICK.
Why would you think that? Tou KNOW it's crap. God I feel such a hypocrite every time I post something like that, but you know it's tru!!

RedMoomin · 10/08/2010 16:49

OK desire - piece of advice 1: don't just think about that first glass of wine, watch the film to the end... Would you be able to stop at one glass? Would it be one bottle or 2? How would you feel in the morning?

You have done really well so far. Remember how bad everyone felt after they picked up?

RedMoomin · 10/08/2010 16:50

HUGE KICK - by the way!

RedMoomin · 10/08/2010 16:53

MIFLAW - need some ass kicking over here please. (Not mine for a change!)

RedMoomin · 10/08/2010 16:54

Plan other things you can do:
walk
read a book
bubble bath
do your nails
call a (non-drinking) friend
keep posting
do some ironing (OK, that might be going a bit far!)

RedMoomin · 10/08/2010 16:57

desire - would you think of an AA meeting? (Not sure what your thoughts are on this but it's better than waking up hungover, miserable, ashamed and broke again!)

algee · 10/08/2010 16:58

desire, this is the friend you referred to when you first posted? You need to speak to her/ him if you haven't already... don't mean to be too obvious, but ...

Mouseface · 10/08/2010 17:03

'cryptic'

desiretochange · 10/08/2010 17:19

Algee, not sure what you mean?? Mouse have printed out your questions and will answer them honestly.

maddogsandenglishmen · 10/08/2010 17:20

Are you still there Desire? I am also having a bad evening and we could support each other.

algee · 10/08/2010 17:23

...god I've probably gort the wrong person...friend you share a couple of bottles with a few times during the week? Sorry if that's not you, I am having trouble keeping up!

maddog...stay strong.

I'm on my third N&T...it's fine, really wanted a drink earlier, but the posh tonic in a proper glass with ice and a slice gives me at least some of the sensation of reward...

ChristianaTheSeventh · 10/08/2010 17:31

I need something to look forward to

MIFLAW · 10/08/2010 17:35

Desire

Q1. What's the worst thing that's ever happened to you when drunk? For example, have you ever had a one-night-stand you regretted/argued with a friend/physically fought with a friend/wet yourself/shit yourself/broken someone's heart by breaking a promise or confidence/driven home and woken up not knowing if you've killed someone or not - or something else entirely?(if it's as bad as I bet it is, I don't expect you to answer on here - but ddo hold it in your head for a minute)

Q2. What is it that makes you think exactly the same thing won't happen if you drink tonight? If you're on here, it's surely because you can't control your drinking, so you can't surely kid yourself that tonight you know for a fact you won't overdo it.

Q3. What is it that makes you think something even worse won't happen if you drink tonight? I mean, whatever your answer to Q1, you can imagine something worse, can't you? And you know that your answer to Q1 seemed impossible and unacceptable until the first time it happened to you.

But, if you DON'T drink, then no way is Q1 going to repeat itself and so Q2 and Q3 become irrelevant bad dreams.

Big enough kick for you?
