Well, here we go ladies (and MIFLAW)! The new thread to follow on from JWN's 'me and alcohol have ruined my family'. I hope no one minds that I decided to go with 'brave'? I just think that it describes us!

As a quick recap, I am 33 and on day 22 of sobriety (on this occasion!)

Mouse, that is good about your dh. Not all plain sailing maybe, but a damn sight better than where you were last week.

I've giggled and giggled at the thought of stock made from Nigel's giblets and Mr JWN's bollocks. Don't seem to have a recipe though.

I have found it really helpful posting on here. I used to drink at bit during the day, and being able to come on here keeps me focused. Thanks EVERYONE.

gingeroots · 30/07/2010 20:41

Algee - thanks for that .
Wonder if there are online AA meetings ?
Or something similar ,you can do Weightwatchers on line ...
Anyway ,this is my online AA for now .

Mouse - that's terrific news !

Wasindie - just be prepared to parry the suggestion to alternate drinks with non alcholic ones .

How's everyone else doing - Trinity ?
Katerum ?Gloup ?
And everyone else ?

Mouseface · 30/07/2010 20:43

algee

I'm good. I'm drinking but slowly and weaker and later than this time last week.

I feel in control but I doubt I am IYSWIM. Otherwise, why drink?

What are you up too tomight?

Well done Wasindie!! You WILL report day 8 tomorrow.

algee · 30/07/2010 20:52

...nor me wasindie...think I might go to bed now then!
Bored of tea. Out of tonic. Day 22...
DTs asleep?

jesuswhatnext · 30/07/2010 21:08

ummm nigel was very tasty (loads left!) - mr jwn is clearing up the kitchen, its taking a long time as of course walking is a bit painful right now

on a serious note, the price of booze is begginning to bother me, when i was drinking and heard on the news that the government, or whatever, were advocating a higher price i felt very indignant - after all, i work hard for my money, if i can pick up cheap booze thats my problem etc etc.
last week dd came in late one night with her friends, they had a shipping order of vodka with them, loads of gut-rot cider and various revolting looking blue drinks - i asked how on earth they could afford it all (i actually thought they had raided a parental drinks cupboard) they told me the prices - it is worrying me that young people have such easy access to such huge amounts of booze at pocket-money prices we really are brewing up trouble for our selves and our children if this is not addressed. (no pun intended )

Mouseface · 30/07/2010 21:09

Do you want me to do it? Before I go to bed? Might not be a full thread but I could just set it up and link, ready for when it is full IYSWIM?

jesuswhatnext · 30/07/2010 21:11

dh has suggested we cuddle up and watch a film - i am off to watch 'wolfman'! he really is surpassing himself this evening!

jesuswhatnext · 30/07/2010 21:11

yes please mouse! i am old and dont know how to do links!

algee · 30/07/2010 21:15

JWN ...yeah, think the blue label voddy is about 7 quid... god the gogo comic dd pesters for is only just less than that!

Phew mouse [relieved old fart emotion]! I'm going to take myself to bed with my book...whiskey is talking to me in here so best I go before it starts shouting.

Enjoy your evenings fairies...

Mouseface · 30/07/2010 21:16

JWN - pun was worth a

I know what you mean though. For example......

Tesco Value Vodka has swung from £7.49, to £7.98 to £8.49.

Bargin Booze do a vodka that is 22% for about £5.99. A litre bottle. If there are say, 3 of them, that's a couple of quid each!!!

How on earth can you police that?

At 15, it was cheap, weak cider for me, less than half a bottle and I'd throw up. I didn't drink again until I was 19.

If these guys can get hold of cheap vodka instead of or aswell as cheap cider, there is no hope.

I dread DD getting older. Mainly because of the mistakes I made.

I want to protect her. I know that in certains areas I can't.

ChristianaTheSeventh · 30/07/2010 21:17

Hello everyone.

About 300 posts here since I last posted and only been away 24 hours!

Went out for dinner last night with friends - no booze, lovely chats, up for a run this morning. DH who drinks far too much says he is very inspired - and got him really thinking.

Drinking water and off to make a late dinner.

Have an enormous party tomorrow night. There will be buckets of booze but hopefully not for me.

Inspired to hear from you all again.

Trinity you have been through a lot and so pleased you're starting again on this lovely path.

Lucilastic · 30/07/2010 21:21

Hello. Not sure if I am in the right thread but I know I have a drink problem (but when sober can convince myself otherwise)and am 40 ish with two kids aged 3.5 yrs and nearly 2.
I started drinking (unlike me) at 5pm with a glass of wine as DP is out on a 30th birthday piss up. I have been steadily working my way through a bottle and will probably have a can of beer or two depending on how long I can be arsed to wait for DP to get in.
Hello girls.

ChristianaTheSeventh · 30/07/2010 21:24

Hello Lucilastic... Yes, probably the right place...

Some of us are not drinking, some of us are, some of us are thinking about stopping.

Welcome

Thank you. Have been following this thread for a few days now. My kids are still only little but I can see that if I don't change my ways I'm going to end up crapping up their childhoods.
BTW, no excuse but I come from a family of drunks on both sides of the family.
Problems started at around 20. Realised booze could help with shyness. The rest is standard - making an arse of myself regularly at various stages in my life. Whilst single it's a miracle I wasn't raped or murdered the risks I took.

gettingwrinkly · 30/07/2010 21:44

Hi Lucilastic - welcome!

I also found drink helped with my shyness, made me an idiot but not a shy one!!
Going to make another cup of tea (I think about the 12th of the day)

catinboots · 30/07/2010 21:46

hi venus - yes I'm here. I've been lurking today. Yesterday was shite. But today is better. Tried to keep myself busy - now just waiting for the shop to shut in 15 minutes so that this day is over IYSWIM!

Well done to all of you. And thankyou. I will be back tomorrow to attempt day 2 xxx

Mouseface · 30/07/2010 21:53

Hello Lucilastic, I'm Mouse.

These babes are awesome. I'm a newbie and I'm still drinking.

Less volume and less often but still drinking.

If you have some time, read JWN's OP/OT. It's the reason this thread is carrying on.

Not clique chicks here, just real women, oh and MIFLAW, he's a babe too, just don't tell him I said so. He's nails!!

We are all at different stages. IIRC, JWN is almost if not, at 2 whole months at being booze free since posting!! Algee is at 22 days? Some are single figures.

Anyway, I've not been judged, just supported. And you wil be too.

Welcome.

Lucilastic · 30/07/2010 21:54

That's so true gettingwrinkly...only now I'm 41, a mother of 2 and no one thinks my behaviour is a laugh anymore.
