Well, here we go ladies (and MIFLAW)! The new thread to follow on from JWN's 'me and alcohol have ruined my family'. I hope no one minds that I decided to go with 'brave'? I just think that it describes us!

As a quick recap, I am 33 and on day 22 of sobriety (on this occasion!)

Hello folks, I have been full of admiration for you, esp jwn, who kicked this off. If it is any help, this is an online resource.

My vegetarian friend came round once with her daughter when I was cooking a chicken. Friend's dd told me they didn't eat chicken, and I said that for me it depended on how the chicken had been looked after. Some chickens lived happy lives pecking around on the grass in the sunshine etc, while some chilcken lived a sad life in small boxes never getting to run outside. Her conclusion: that it was OK to eat a sad chicken, but better to leave the happy chickens as they were.

Long-winded way of saying, i bet you bought a chicken that has had a very happy life

wasindie...don't blame you for feeling anxious...I have 'one of those' situations coming up in about 10 days time and I'm aleady fretful. Given your current circumstances, could you pershaps just say that you are so totally knackered that you'd prefer not to have anything as it will only wipe you even more? Sounds pretty convincing to me!...no just re-read not to be drunk tonight! Sorry. Have fun.
love the mental image of wriggling DTs!

JWN is your dead chicken putting on a show for you? Bloody ought to be!

Thank you fortheverylasttime

jesuswhatnext · 30/07/2010 18:52

hi wasindie - i think you should tell your ds the situation - you sound an intelligent woman and given your ds has the same genes! , your ds will understand totally why you must not drink! it is SO important now that you dont i cannot imagine anyone pushing you to have one!

i have had a some really good times actually, drinking with one of my dbs, we have had a scream at times - as soon as i told him that i was an alcoholic he has been a tower of strength, he loves me and wants the best for me, as im sure your ds wants for you and your lovely family!

venusandmars · 30/07/2010 18:54

Wasindie - could you stay wake long enough to get pissed? Or would you fall asleep over the first glass?

Seriously though, you know from last week what your experience was. You will feel celebratory just showing your dts to your ds (sis I pressume). Can you find an alternative celebratory fizz that you can enjoy when she pops the cork for the babies?

Your sleepless nights are a perfect excuse for you (if you need one). Your dsis will probably be happy to quaff the champers on her own, and will probably not even question your reluctance. Maybe this is a good chance to try a different way of being with her, for a while. She does not have to stay sober. You'll probably feel happier if you do.

jesuswhatnext · 30/07/2010 18:55

venusandmars · 30/07/2010 18:56

jesuswhatnext · 30/07/2010 18:57

ALGEE - DO NOT PROJECT!!!! 10 days is long time to be worrying! worry about it in 9 days time! (otherwise you will give yourself wrinkles!)

MIFLAW · 30/07/2010 18:58

Wasindie

Be on antibiotics.

Bloody strong ones.

And don't take the first drink.

If you don't have a drink, you can't get drunk!

algee · 30/07/2010 19:00

JWN...you're all going to be giving me advice about that one when it comes round I hope.
...does nigel have a double barrelled surname?

Wasin - You can do this!

Anyone heard from Trinity?

jesuswhatnext · 30/07/2010 19:30

actually, i think nigel has no surname, he is a bastard, a fucking expensive one!

gettingwrinkly · 30/07/2010 19:30

Hi all,
Hope Nigel was delicious, does he have a family vault for his remains?! Or could he perhaps lie in state?

I lay down for a 'litle' snooze at 3.45p.m. and woke up at 5 to7! Oops! Needless to say nobody had done anything about tea. I'm going to have a bowl of cornflakes and everyone else can fend for themsleves!
I avoided the booze in the supermarket, I noiced today though how many offers there are on the ends of aisles, wine, beers and spirits, also it seems to be mentioned a lot on telly, either in adverts or in programmes - never noiced before!

jesuswhatnext · 30/07/2010 19:33

just to top it all off - dh has come home and told me he had a huge curry for lunch i told him i was cooking tonight, i may turn his bollocks into earrings!!! bloody twonk!

algee · 30/07/2010 19:37

...did you get giblets? You could add dh's nuts to make a 'nice' gravy base...

wrinkly...I made pancakes! ffs, need real people in the house with me i'm reverting back to studenthood!

Good stuff wasindie...

gingeroots · 30/07/2010 20:04

Just checking in to say hi ,DS back so my access to internet limited .
Trinity - massive respect for getting it together this morning and carrying on thru the day .
Algee and Venus - you guys are so good at the old support .Bless you .
I'm finding this thread a big support .
When the thought ( you know the one ) crosses my mind ,I think of you guys and try and keep going .
I'm not new to giving up ,I do it really well ,as I've said before ,it's all the practice I've had .
But my twisted mind inteprets this as a reason to drink again .
Because I know I can stop - for a bit .
Algee - how did the AA meeting go ,are you going to any more ?
Just ignore that question if you don't feel like answering .
Wasindie - my advice would be to get your strategy for not drinking ready ,so that you can wheel it out straight away .
FWIW I often just say I can't drink because once I get the taste I can't stop.
And everyone has always accepted that .

gingeroots · 30/07/2010 20:07

Oh ,thanks for info Forverylasttime .
I'll check them out .

Bloody hell Wasindie - a bottle each?!

NEWSFLASH - DH has just asked me to add to the weekly shop. LEMONADE. He says he's going to have shandy and not beer. He's going to cut down too!!!!

algee · 30/07/2010 20:17

hey ginger I do just he same. this feels like sanctuary to me, just hope i'm not pinning too much on an anonomous forum board, but guess I'm probably just being an old fart.

I'm not going to try another meetiung for a while, though I feel taht at some point I will....came so close to the wetherspoons trap afterwards then felt all inadequate and decided pretty well to stop posting here too (but came back next morning )...ah god knows, load of old gobshite but simply put, i felt like i couldn't cope with what i was feeling, and with what I would have to face up to in meetings and that made me come closer to picking up tahn i've been in a while.

wasindie and wrinkly...it is amazingly cheap isn't it? Though I have really noticed the reduction in my food shopping bill!!

algee · 30/07/2010 20:18

mouse, that's amazing! Something has hit home hasn't it! How you doing tonight?
