Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think 19 is an ideal age to have a baby with a convict, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Emma spoke sense to George and Amber tonight. Goodness only knows where this storyline is going. I can't see George being Father of the Year. Oh dear.

Over to you!

The George being bottled storyline would have been interesting if the perp had done a decent job of it. As it is ... nah!

Plantainpusher · 16/02/2026 16:10

Tbh I don't mind how boring it gets as long as it's not Joy or Mick talking I'm happy.

OH NO YOU HAVE INVOKED THEM 😱

Gonners · 16/02/2026 20:42

I like Joy ... she may be a bit annoying at times, but she annoys me much less than ... er, sorry, I don't have time to list them. I think she means well, which is Unusual For Ambridge. Mick is just pointless.

JanFebAndOnwards · 16/02/2026 21:45

Yes I ended up picturing Zak/ch as a cross between Paul and Akram, from his voice and speech patterns.

TheUsualChaos · 16/02/2026 23:33

Hearing Akram causing more trouble at Bridge Farm enraged me far more than it should. I can't put my finger on exactly why. I just find the whole scenario incredibly irritating.

I think Rex will be completely oblivious that Alice could be remotely interested in him. He probably sees her as too upper class and out of his league. Subtle hints aren't going to work. More cringe to come I fear.

EBearhug · 17/02/2026 01:15

"Not putting shade on Adam" - nah Tom, that's exactly what you wanted to do.

"Nothing more to say about it" I fear Stella and Zak/ch will both have more to say about it, but at least Zach/k is pointing out Pip might not be the one after all.

EBearhug · 17/02/2026 01:19

Weren't he and Toby at some private school of some sort. He 'd have certainly mixed with those who were as a professional rugby player. I agree he's oblivious, and might see her as out of his league, but not because of class.

Nos4r2 · 17/02/2026 04:47

I had a friend who was in the British Army during the troubles in Ireland. Im ginger, and he said that all he saw there were people with ginger hair, he said he thought it was my family out there. I come from a big family of gingers and Im not sure but I think my paternal grandmother was Irish, but on my mother's side she had brothers that were ginger.
I always recall the great film The Quiet Man and the line " Two women in the house and one of them a red head", followed by a take in of breath and a shake of the head.

Would a farmer in his 40s use that expression, "putting shade on"? Strikes me as more of an urban youth/social media thing.

Akram's veg box mishap was very irritating. It's like they've cast him as Paddington Bear.

muddyford · 17/02/2026 06:38

I'd never heard that phrase before and only have a foggy idea of what it might mean. Sounds vaguely EastEnders, not TA.

BeatriceBatchelor · 17/02/2026 07:07

Pip's voice was so odd, cooing with Stella whilst Zack went from camp to ... who knows. I thought Zack was going to mention the age difference.

And Tony sounded a bit mad scurrying around the village spreading his seed.

Yeah they were but I just don't think Rex sees himself that way at all and never has done. Toby has always been the over confident one whilst Rex is very humble almost to the point of being quite self deprecating.

TheUsualChaos · 17/02/2026 08:06

I thought Zack was about to mention the age difference too. But as usual in Ambridge, no one bats an eyelid about anything unusual...totally normal for a close knit village 🙄 Perhaps Zack is just a brief plot device to confirm that Stella is most definitely, absolutely NOT marrying Pip for the farm?

I've noticed recently that the script writers keep using language that doesn't sound right for the characters. I can't remember who it was but recently someone used the word "jerk" which sounds American to me not Ambridge, or another character actually said "let's take a rain check" when cancelling a dinner date. It's just annoying. There is no way the older characters would speak like that. Maybe Amber would but she seems to wobble between being quite well spoken and then dropping some youth speak into the conversation. Very odd.

That’s funny, my very large northern Irish family are all either black haired/dark brown eyed or sandy blonde and blue eyed - we say they’re from either the Celt or Viking side. I’ve got no red headed relatives at all…

FatRosie · 17/02/2026 11:21

@BeatriceBatchelor ,Pip's voice was so odd, ... Pip's voice was even odder than usual. She's ghastly.

And Tony sounded a bit mad scurrying around the village spreading his seed.
Phnarr phnarr!

FatRosie · 17/02/2026 11:38

Akram sounds like a Pakistani from a 1970s sit-com.

THAT’S WHO HE REMINDS ME OF! Thank you, I keep expecting him to pull a marmalade sandwich out of his work hat.

There is such a very weird vibe with Akram, why is he so humble, almost subservient? Plus I don’t mean to stereotype but every single person I know from a Pakistani family would be getting a right bollocking from family members for giving up a pretty well paying trade for poorly paid manual work. Do correct me if my friends are a crap cross section.

What’s the game plan here? If he’d had some kind of mental health crisis or work accident that had made them decide as a couple that it was worth taking the financial hit while he recovered, that might make sense. If he carried on working as a plumber while picking up shifts on the farm too - ok. But this makes no fucking sense to me.

FatRosie · 17/02/2026 13:04

It's so that Akram applies for the Meadow Farm tenancy.
George and Josh will also go fo it.

Brefugee · 17/02/2026 13:10

can someone please remind me where Adam is? (not that i want him back)

FatRosie · 17/02/2026 13:13

Adam is at Home Farm and also doing the school run. He's the 'school dad' in his late 50s sighing deeply and sounding tired.

Brefugee · 17/02/2026 13:19

oh yes, thank you. I just wonder why Brian doesn't have Adam training the young pup, rather than foist him on Hannah.

I think it was because they don't keep livestock (apart from the deer if they still have them) and he wanted to get rid of him for a bit give him wider experience.

FatRosie · 17/02/2026 13:38

@Brefugee, ...why Brian doesn't have Adam training the young pup...
Because the cocky young pup needs to learn his lesson the business from the bottom up.

Ruairi has strolled in without the basic knowledge, and with the arrogance of youth doesn't know enough to know that he doesn't know all that much.
