Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think 19 is an ideal age to have a baby with a convict, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Emma spoke sense to George and Amber tonight. Goodness only knows where this storyline is going. I can't see George being Father of the Year. Oh dear.

Over to you!

All that tripe about a missing Rolex. Surely the passenger would have gone straight to the police. And Alice was sooo boring to Rex I almost turned off. They deserve each other.

they are going on Tuesday? are they mad? now is the time to go. Instantly.

Unfair to think Hanna is horrible/mean IMO. She has lost a trained person and now has another relative/friend foisted on her who has zero idea what they are doing (it went so well with George, and Rauri going the same way maybe, clearly not listening to the expert woman)

And of course she took photos. I am guessing that R is going to be ok with a bit of joshing etc because he must prove himself to Brian. But in Hannah's shoes? I'd be cross too.

Gonners · 16/02/2026 09:23

I assume there was no Rolex, but Rex comes across as an absolute drip and the sort of person you could scam.

Hannah's all right - just not terribly good at suffering fools gladly. I'll drink to that!

Sinittaadancers · 16/02/2026 09:23

Yet more telling not showing yesterday with Alice sharing the ‘hilarious’ shenanigans of Ruth and David’s Valentines meal - which was an absolutely pointless story anyway. Why on earth would Alice be that bothered about what her mums cousin did on Valentines, and why would she think Rex would care? And why would anyone think that the listeners want or need to be reminded? I cringed my way through listening to that, getting increasingly irritated about the time being wasted that could have been used for something interesting to happen. But then I suppose the scriptwriters don’t seem capable of writing such a thing anyway.

Brefugee · 16/02/2026 09:51

i think the Alice/Rex stuff was supposed to be painful though, i thought they did that quite well (as in Alice-actor did it well, Rex-actor didn't have to do anything)

I really don't get the laid back "oh we'll go looking on tuesday stuff tho.

Darker · 16/02/2026 10:07

Alice told the Ruth/David story to clumsily fish for clues as to whether Rex is seeing anyone.

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/02/2026 11:00

I immediately thought of Harry.

Madcats · 16/02/2026 11:43

Happy 75th birthday, Tony Archer! I bet your family have planned……

Aquamarineviolet · 16/02/2026 12:20

If George takes the recording to the police, the whole account of the evening will come out; that George turned up at The Bull drunk and belligerent, that he shoved an 82 year old man with angina, and that Alice prevented him from throwing a brick through The Bull's window.

Would that coming to light result in him going straight back to prison, quite apart from what might happen to Brian?

Is Amber's anxiety about George "remembering" a reasonable anxiety about revisiting the drunken run-up to the bottling?

MorningCoffeePlease · 16/02/2026 12:33

@JoelenesParrot and @CaptainMyCaptain , I immediately thought the passenger might be Harry, too.

BundleOfChimneys · 16/02/2026 12:39

Rex is definitely not into Alice.

Letting him babysit the gandkids ...for a change!

MathiasBroucek · 16/02/2026 14:46

The Rolex story is another dumb, unrealistic thing

Alice told the Ruth/David story to clumsily fish for clues as to whether Rex is seeing anyone.

But she could have done that in 20 seconds by saying ‘so, did you do anything for Valentines?’ I was cringing for the writers more than Alice…

Plantainpusher · 16/02/2026 15:41

I enjoyed the episode with the long established characters and they were talking about animal husbandry for a change, hooray! With Rhairi working at Berrow we could get a lot more.
Think there's hope for Rhairi yet, if he works hard and listens to Hannah.

@Plantainpusher , He's Ruairi. He'll be fine.

@MathiasBroucek , I agree. If it was so expensive why did he leave it in a cab?

@PatChaunceysFruitCake , I like Hannah.

God it was awful. First we had to live through the preamble to Dayveed and Ruth's incredibly boring and unfunny Valentine's debacle.

Then we we had to live through it.

And then we had to live through it again!

Plantainpusher · 16/02/2026 16:10

Tbh I don't mind how boring it gets as long as it's not Joy or Mick talking I'm happy.

snowibunni · 16/02/2026 19:24

This front row discussion is very odd. In another good way.

I thought I was living on another planet when they were talking about how absolutely thrilling and exciting and massive the George being bottled story is. Are other listeners really enthralled by it?
I have been gripped by storylines in the past but I just don't care about this one. It would have been so much better if George had died and an ensuing whodunnit.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/02/2026 19:41

If I cared about George I might care about his having been clonked on the head. As it is, I don't.

And the obvious attempt to get people to argue about which is worse of Brian or George is so transparent it has really got up my nose. Yes, Brian did a bad thing. That doesn't make what George did any better or worse. Yes, George did a bad thing. That doesn't make what Brian did any better or worse. Just like Helen having run over Mike Tucker when she was drunk doesn't make anything anyone else ever did different in any way, either.

And now we have yet another new character I can't really warm to. Sigh. I just hope Zach blows out again as immediately as he has blown in; I can hope, because he clearly despises the village.

SPQRomanus · 16/02/2026 19:41

Is Stella's brother supposed to be gay too? He sounded camp, a bit like Paul. But surely not, there are already so many gays in the village. He also had a fake estuary English accent but Stella is quite well-spoken, wonder why that is. He also sounded a lot younger than Stella, there could be a big age gap I suppose, but if she's about 50 he sounded at least 20 years younger.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/02/2026 19:43

He remembers and was patronising about her childhood birthday party, so he must be the same age or older, I suppose.

muddyford · 16/02/2026 19:44

I thought it was camp Paul. Then he sounded Antipodean, then just fake Estuary accent. Another useless new character.

AnotherHormonalWoman · 16/02/2026 19:46

I can never picture Paul as a black man (he's tall skinny and pasty to me), but there's no reason why men of any race can't be a simp (was that the word used? I now can't find the post).

Okay, so many of you were right and I was wrong about Brine not having it in his wheezy tight little heart to bonk George over the head.

Have any of you listened to the podcast? The latest episode had this weird big reveal thing and well the episode was just weird and full of praise and adoration for the oh so clever scriptwriter and to the Ruari actor for having kept it quiet for months.

Agree. It's most definitely not on the same scale as Rob and Helen, the Grundy/Emma love triangle, or indeed the story line that set off the whole bottle George escapade. It's poor.

My posts should have said not in a good way.
