Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think 19 is an ideal age to have a baby with a convict, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Emma spoke sense to George and Amber tonight. Goodness only knows where this storyline is going. I can't see George being Father of the Year. Oh dear.

Over to you!

She’s only 4 weeks pregnant. We have another 38 weeks of this.

Thanks as always Gasp0de Flowers

I think Esme should run too. Off the farm and to the bank with that "life changing" cheque. Or into Josh's arms and they can farm happily ever after.

Why is the landlord paying her to leave his land?

No, please not. I am over the story already.

The idea seemed to be that Esme had a right to the tenancy and the landlord would pay her to waive that right. On a recent thread others were very sceptical that she did have that right, but I'm sure the production team have taken advice Hmm. They so often do this and then pick and mix the bits they like the sound of, ending up with a scenario that just wouldn't happen in real life. However, here we are.

David is very pally with Esme, isn't he? From scarcely knowing her Dad to this in what, three months?

Thanks Gasp0de!

Good on Emma for seeing the reality steaming towards her, and for giving Will short shrift for his ideas of “helping” which she knows will count for bugger all.

EBearhug · 24/01/2026 07:30

Yes, if Will wants to play with a little baby, get a doll.

OrphanBlankly · 24/01/2026 07:53

Thank you, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g.

Hercisback1 · 24/01/2026 08:15

Thanks Gasp.

Poor Emma, she knows exactly what is coming for her.

Nos4r2 · 24/01/2026 08:58

Thanks Gasp.
Why dosnt Esme go to David and Ruth's farm for a chat, David is always running over to her.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 24/01/2026 08:59

Emma and Chelsea are the only sensible characters in The Archers. Chelsea wins the week for me with her advice to Brad and Amber.

In real life Emma might be advised to be a little more neutral in her reaction given it’ll just make them more determined. Given this is soap land though I was cheering Emma on. Agreed with every word she said. No proper income, nowhere to live, no thoughts about funding maternity leave. Of course it’ll be Emma picking up the pieces.

Whomever said on the last thread they’d like to hear more about Brad’s university experience. I agree. Very topical for a working class undergraduate to be living at home and commuting. He must be coming up to choosing his dissertation too. I only did maths to A-Level so I doubt I’d understand it but I’d like to know more about his particular interests in his field.

Ambridge · 24/01/2026 10:22

Thanks for the thread, Gasp, as we gallop into ever more crazy SW territory.

Amber - upduffed at 19, the first time she DTD? WHAT WAS SHE THINKING???

Esmé - is David her new Daddy now?

FourSeasonsTotalLandscaping · 24/01/2026 10:34

Thanks for the new thread @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

Another one cheering Emma on here - she was absolutely right in all she said. I particularly enjoyed her pulling up Will on his nonsensical fantasy about looking after the baby: “well you can do it then. Except you won’t.”

I did laugh out loud at Will’s first response to the news: “is that true?” It felt like exactly the kind of dopey thing I would say in response to being told a bit of a shocking information.

Yes - Amber who was so ambitious for her influencer career, lumbered with unemployable George, now excited to be additionally lumbered with George Mk II.

And Esme, web designer with little ambition to farm, who evidently has none of the emotional resilience to cope with it, turning down a life-changing sum of money so she’s stuck with a job she actually can’t handle without constant intervention from her neighbours.

the SW have gone bonkers with all the massive personality changes to fit the storyline. I’d like to hear about Helen and the Scotsman, and more about Fallon and Harrison being on the rocks - as those are characters I know and am invested in. I don’t care about Esme or Amber!!!

Brefugee · 24/01/2026 11:51

oh god it is INFURIATING.

Esme: take the money and run. See if you can get a bit more.
Emma: go you, but i fear the family are all now going to gang up on her. Safe in the knowledge that she will fix everything at her own cost.

grrrrr.
(also, thanks, Gasp!)

RegimentalSturgeon · 24/01/2026 12:26

Celsea isn’t remotely sensible and neither was her ‘advice’ which pretty much amounted to ‘you must tell George’. Er, maybe not for a bit (yes, I know that horse has sailed).
Esme is a class one pain in the arse, and Emmur is reaping what she sowed.
A murrain on the lot of ‘em.

bloodredfeaturewall · 24/01/2026 13:33

abortion - done with chelsea
dramatic miscarriage - done with kirsty
disability and fear of disability - multiple times

so what's left? ramping up of dv during pregnancy?

WMW · 24/01/2026 13:35

Non-dramatic miscarriage.

EBearhug · 24/01/2026 13:48

Sometimes, Amber seems quite switched on - she doesn't seem totally ignorant of the requirement to work and pay bills, and she seemed to recognise just how awful George can be to people.

So I'm quite surprised she didn't say, "I'd love to have a baby with you, babe, but let's wait till you've got a job too, and we can have our own place."

OrphanBlankly · 24/01/2026 14:22

Absolutely.

Are Ruth and David still doing the milking or has Esme got stuck in?

She is so wishy washy. Getting sentimental about her dad and farming when she wasn't close to the former and knows nowt about the latter.
