Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think people frequently miss their own weddings because of a morning quickie while in a plaster cast, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks for title suggestions. I basically took @OverArmour's excellent suggestion and managed to shoehorn in snivelling simpleton, gloriously coined by @Eastie77Returns to refer to Lee in the first instance.

@WitcheryDivine suggested Recharging, Red Kites and The Man They Call Ron, is Ambridge becoming an earthly paradise or a hell on earth? which seems as good a place as any to kick off our discussions! Ron = Rob, a fortuitous typo on a previous thread. It does feel a bit as if we're marking time before he turns up again. Odd to do what could be a high profile storyline over the summer holidays when a lot of people will be away, but depending on your point of view, maybe that's a blessing!

Whither George? Is he shaping up to be Andrew Tate mark 2?

Everybody looking forward to Ferret Fun at the Fête? Me neither.

Over to you!

Sadly, I think you are right.

CaptainMyCaptain · 17/07/2023 19:53

Sigh...yes you are right.

Thighdentitycrisis · 17/07/2023 20:14

Maybe Henry will be able to alert the grown ups ? He knows what’s going on

iratepirate · 17/07/2023 21:22

Is Henry’s phone still confiscated?

Is Henry’s phone still confiscated?

It was for a week, on Monday 3rd, so he has it back by now.

FallonsNewCoat · 17/07/2023 21:52

Oh Helen. She was great in the coffee shop and then just crumbled outside. So disappointing…Miles’ voice was hauntingly similar to Ron’s - he really sounded like a brother. My sister and I used to sound exactly the same on the phone which we would get a lot of merriment out - even her husband got us muddled.

stilldumdedumming · 17/07/2023 22:13

I'm not sure about boo Emma. I know she's blinkered and a bit daft about her lovely dad, but she's supporting her boy. That's what she s there for.

EBearhug · 18/07/2023 01:00

I don't remember Miles being quite such a Rob clone back along. Still, it should have shown to Helen that even without Rob, it won't be over, because Jack's uncle will still be there.

Her boy, who she never pulls up on his bad behaviour and who has turned into a spoilt incel…

(@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g - off topic, but am reading Moving Pictures and you’ve just made your first appearance!)

JayAlfredPrufrock · 18/07/2023 04:39

Tony sounded as if he was throwing individual radishes into the veg boxes, from a distance.

I’m worried for Hannah.

Fleetress · 18/07/2023 06:11

Suddenly felt a cold shiver - because it’s likely Jack will grow up to be just like his father. I guess Helen might already fear that that will be the case. Awful …

RegimentalSturgeon · 18/07/2023 06:27

Possibly because we never heard him until he popped up in the BF shop.

Sad that Jack will have so little time with his father, but with luck Rob will still be well enough to give him a grounding in the basics.

Yes, she's his mum and she should be supportive. But not blind to his faults, surely? Sometimes, a bit of honest, constructive feedback is the kindest and most supportive thing that you can do for someone.

Bubbylana · 18/07/2023 06:39

I turned the radio off half way through Mondays episode it was making me annoyed. Firstly Helen deserves everything shes got coming to her and a big kick up the arse( pardon my French!).
Why did she go and meet Miles its Ludicrous!
Next George and Tony. Why does George think he is doing everybody a favour its so annoying I would tel him to Feck off straight away.
I wish Rauri was still having relations with that women it was much more entertaining than this rubbish.
If the bbc lose its Licence fees in 2027 will we lose the Archers? if it dosnt start new story lines which are not so far fetched I think a lot of listeners will start switching off which will be very sad.

BettyCake · 18/07/2023 08:06

Me too @JayAlfredPrufrock. I can see a big confrontation in future between her and Emmur or George and think it will be nasty.

harriethoyle · 18/07/2023 08:12

Yep I think there'll be a Hannah/Grundy stand off and Neil will be caught in the cross fire. Maybe keel over with the stress? Emma is as self-indulgent a parent as Soosan is... I'm longing for George to get his comeuppance.

Rob and Miles grew up as they are after a childhood of being abused by their father and watching their mother being abused by him. It's reasonable to hope that in Jack's case nurture will triumph over nature.

Why doesn't Emmur just send George round to the chicken factory?

EBearhug · 18/07/2023 08:22

Why doesn't Emmur just send George round to the chicken factory?

Because he has got his own transport and she doesn't want to have to drive him there for shifts a all times?

EBearhug · 18/07/2023 08:22

*hasn't got

EBearhug · 18/07/2023 08:26

Possibly because we never heard him until he popped up in the BF shop.

No, I know that, and I don't mean how he dounds, but I had a vague sense that Helen had mentioned meeting him to Jess or Kirsty or someone and commented on him being different from Rob, in a positive way. But it's possible I am just misremembering.

And the chicken factory is beneath the dignity of a Grundy man.

Fleetress · 18/07/2023 09:07

Oh, I don’t know, @JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon - couldn’t it be more the natural aspiration of a mother to see her child do better than her? It’s not so much that it’s beneath the dignity of a Grundy man as that she knows it’s a crappy job she had to take through lack of qualifications. So sending George there will tell her that she’s failed as a mother.

She would be supporting him better by showing him the error of his ways rather than believing every word he says.
