Archers Many thanks to @PseudoBadger for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to have the general public watching you work and asking questions, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Title comes from this poem, with which I drive my family to distraction at this time of year.

Spring is sprung, the grass is riz
I wonder where the birdies is.
The bird is on the wing.
But that’s absurd, the wing is on the bird.
Or so I’ve heard.

Ogden Nash

Apologies to @TeenDivided for ignoring her good ideas for the thread title. Here they are to kickstart our ruminations:
'window on the world of cheesemaking'
'how long until the intercom is fatal'
'will Brian settle in new pastures'
'Springing towards Easter with Widowers, Windows, and wails'

Over to you!

I started listening after the Rob storyline so don’t know fully what happened either. I keep waiting for another exciting storyline too 🤣

JanglyBeads · 08/04/2023 20:29

He left for North America for a job.

Was he convicted of attempted child abduction?? I really can't remember. The ending of the whole thing was so rushed.

He was driving away with the boys / just Jack?? And Helen caught up with him and confronted him and he legged it?? But I think the police caught him.

Then shortly after we were told he'd left the country.

JanglyBeads · 08/04/2023 20:31

The earlier details, all 2+ years, are seated onto my brain. It was quite close to home for me in many ways.

JanglyBeads · 08/04/2023 20:38

Ah the Ambridge Observer has it - no conviction:

Titchener escapes Stateside

Rob Titchener, who is a fugitive from justice after a foiled attempt to kidnap his baby son, has fled to the USA, according to police sources.
Borsetshire’s Rural Crime Unit (PC Harrison Burns) told a press conference that US immigration officials confirmed Mr Titchener landed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, last week after giving UK police the slip.
‘Once it was clear Mr Titchener had left Borsetshire the case was out of my hands,’ said PC Burns.

OverArmour · 08/04/2023 20:41

Got it, thanks. So would there be a warrant for his arrest still? If there was enough to alert that he was back in the country then you’d think that would be enough for him to be detained 🤷

OverArmour · 08/04/2023 20:42

I’d wonder if there was a connection with Helen’s planned trip to the US. Has The Archers ever done episodes are supposed to be overseas?

I'm pretty sure there were people venturing into forrin parts in Ambridge Extra. And didn't they have some sort of town-twinning nonsense involving Susan going to France?

EBearhug · 08/04/2023 21:06

Clarrie went to Meyruelle with the town twinning.

Brenda went to Russia in AmEx.

Gonners · 08/04/2023 21:14

Clarrie, that was it! If Susan had gone, we'd have ended up at war.

Grin too

JanglyBeads · 08/04/2023 22:34

@OverArmour but it was only theoretically planned wasn't it? Rob is many things but I don't think he's psychic!

No, I meant I wonder whether they’ve planned a future storyline around it.

TottersBlankly · 08/04/2023 22:50

The village twinning with France.

Brenda to Russia.

Tiger and Pusscat on the run in South America … (Until Brian persuaded her to come home.)

Possibly Phoebe in South Africa? (Think I missed that story but have heard about it.)

We were sadly not invited on Kirsty’s Not-Honeymoon (Costa Rica, maybe?) after the jilting. That would have been fun. 🏝️

Thank you! I’m sad I missed Tiger and Pusscat on the run
😆

PuppyPerson · 09/04/2023 08:20

Oh how I miss Tiger and Pusscat! Matt could come back one day maybe? Or did he die? No, his brother died, after the affair? Anyway, I always loved Matt as a character and he was so well acted.
As for Rob, obviously he is hateful but it'll be good to have a bit of drama. I actually think Lee would love to marry Helen and probably feels a bit insecure after Helen told him to just go and live in the US, and Pat's blunt words.
Is anyone else wondering who George and Brad heard in Grey Gables? I wondered for a second if they might stumble upon Emma and Ed engaging in more 'fun' in unusual locations! 😂

Rosula · 09/04/2023 08:40

Would Helen need Rob's consent to take MySon out of the country?

Rob lurking about?

NetZeroZealot · 09/04/2023 09:16

Thanks for the reminder Janglybeads

If Rob was a fugitive from justice wouldn't they have picked him up when he entered the country?

Maybe there was a border staff strike that day?

NetZeroZealot · 09/04/2023 09:19

Definitely a link between marriage being mentioned between Lee & Helen, and the announcement of Rob's return.

PuppyPerson · 09/04/2023 10:25

CaptainMyCaptain · 09/04/2023 08:58

Rob lurking about?

Ah yes, this makes more sense! 😂

PuppyPerson · 09/04/2023 10:39

Rosula · 09/04/2023 08:40

Would Helen need Rob's consent to take MySon out of the country?

Surely he would? Or does he actually have sole custody because Helen was in prison, but got Jack back by default after Rob fled the country? But with Helen being an upstanding member of the community again surely Rob wouldn't be able to take Gideon away?

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 09/04/2023 10:40

I remember Rob tending to bully Henry - hard cricket balls, being manly, threats of a horrible school - so what I'd like would be a sneaky attack by R that leaves Lee just unconscious enough for Helen, later, to realise she lurves him and must marry him right now this minute, but that also leaves Henry clear to fling Rob to the ground and subdue him using some improbable martial arts tactic learned from Lee.

Maybe with help from Joy.

Gonners · 09/04/2023 10:54

If it comes to unarmed combat between Rob and Lee, I'll be backing Rob because I wouldn't trust him not to have a cosh up his sleeve. And also, of course, because a real villain is so much more entertaining than a whiny drip.
