Archers Many thanks to @PseudoBadger for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to have the general public watching you work and asking questions, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Title comes from this poem, with which I drive my family to distraction at this time of year.

Spring is sprung, the grass is riz
I wonder where the birdies is.
The bird is on the wing.
But that’s absurd, the wing is on the bird.
Or so I’ve heard.

Ogden Nash

Apologies to @TeenDivided for ignoring her good ideas for the thread title. Here they are to kickstart our ruminations:
'window on the world of cheesemaking'
'how long until the intercom is fatal'
'will Brian settle in new pastures'
'Springing towards Easter with Widowers, Windows, and wails'

Over to you!

Ooh no he won't need martial arts, we heard him remarking on Pat having a gun just now in the omnibus !

Gonners · 09/04/2023 11:03

That would be great! Who's going to shoot him - Pat? Imagine the subsequent gossip ... "Oooh! There's bad blood in that family ... like daughter like mother, eh?"

BeaLola · 09/04/2023 11:12

The gun was mentioned for a reason - I'm thinking Henry will shit Rob

TottersBlankly · 09/04/2023 11:21

Oh - I must have missed the gun reference. What did Pat say?

TherapistInATabard · 09/04/2023 11:23

She was shooting something or at something…pigeons I think.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/04/2023 11:37

Scaring birds away from a crop. I forget which and which crop.

If Pat and Tony hadn't already lost one son, I'd like to think Tom would tackle Rob and die in the attempt. Maybe he could just lose the power of speech.

JanglyBeads · 09/04/2023 17:48

Would Rob really be in a deserted hotel though?

@PuppyPerson
Surely he would? Or does he actually have sole custody because Helen was in prison, but got Jack back by default after Rob fled the country? But with Helen being an upstanding member of the community again surely Rob wouldn't be able to take Gideon away?

Both Jack's parents have parental responsibility as they were married at the time of birth and nothing which happened before or after changed PR.

Therefore in theory Rob does have the right to take him abroad, although he should really have a letter signed from Helen giving her permission for this to show at the border.

OverArmour · 09/04/2023 18:21

Lee’s action figures might somehow come a cropper in the melee.

In other news, I’m getting junk scam mail from an email account called ‘Justin Elliott.’ I was nearly tempted to open it so I could read the amazing investment opportunity details in his voice. 😂

AnneWhittle · 09/04/2023 20:20

so Helen has a prohibited steps order and a non mol
good
however they will need to be served I imagine so that will enrage him

AnneWhittle · 09/04/2023 20:21

I thought it was Canada he went to?

Gonners · 09/04/2023 20:37

I have that at the back of my mind, too, but I think it might have been that he used to work in Canada before. When he left the UK after the failed Giddyjack-snatching, I vaguely remember something about him having been recorded as having caught a flight to somewhere like Minneapolis.

I'm struggling to find the listen again option for tonight's episode - the link on BBC Sounds takes you to the omnibus from earlier today rather than this evening's episode. Any ideas?!

I gather from the Mustardland forum that there has been a bit of a cock-up on that front, and someone at the BBC has pressed the wrong "repeat" button. I dare say they'll fix it when they realise what's happened.

IrisAtwood · 09/04/2023 21:08

He was never convicted of anything and left of his own accord. Nothing to stop him coming back.
I don’t know why Harrison would know that Rob was back - he’s not on any list or subject to any restraining orders I don’t think?

Can't find a way to listen to tonight's episode either. So annoying after Friday's cliff hanger 😠

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 09/04/2023 21:36

Don't worry, you didn't miss anything exciting.

Some may want to check my post yesterday at 20:38 - he is wanted by police. Or at least was, at the time of his departure 'cross the ocean.

It's working in Australia, so they must have fixed it.

You can get to today’s episode by going to the schedule in BBC Sounds and clicking on it there.

BeaLola · 09/04/2023 23:18

I'm now imagining a big shoot out with Joy (also known as Joyce from Thursday Murder Club) coming to the rescue when she comes to the tea room (not wearing Jenny's scarf) - if sadly Tom & Tasha were sadly caught in crossfire and taken out I can bear it especially if they were talking with Pip at the time and she sadly also catches a stray bullet - a Tarantino style event

Bubbylana · 10/04/2023 07:52

BeaLola thats a great idea, just think of how many annoying characters could get wiped out in one single scene.

Rosula · 10/04/2023 08:53

Looks like some hard work for Pat and Tony actors coming up, if they have to cope with both the prospect of Rob and their grandchildren grinning out at them from posters advertising agrochemicals.
