Archers Many thanks to @PseudoBadger for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to have the general public watching you work and asking questions, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Title comes from this poem, with which I drive my family to distraction at this time of year.

Spring is sprung, the grass is riz
I wonder where the birdies is.
The bird is on the wing.
But that’s absurd, the wing is on the bird.
Or so I’ve heard.

Ogden Nash

Apologies to @TeenDivided for ignoring her good ideas for the thread title. Here they are to kickstart our ruminations:
'window on the world of cheesemaking'
'how long until the intercom is fatal'
'will Brian settle in new pastures'
'Springing towards Easter with Widowers, Windows, and wails'

Over to you!

ooh great detective work re: Den/Dennis, I'd never have picked up on that. Not least because he's clearly delightfully outgoing in the pub, very unlike when dealing with his poor son.

If Jazzer does make him best man and then he turns up at the wedding... well.

I was immensely confused last night when (as I thought) Iain and Paul the vet nurse were having a deep and meaningful about Helen and her traumatic past. WHY did he wish he'd been there for her? Have they even met?

The penny eventually dropped.

I think it is important to remember that it is not only pleasant, nice or good women who are abused by unspeakable bastards. Nasty women, manipulative women or downright bad women are as well.

They tend not to be chosen as victims though. They are often too ‘switched on’ and hard work for the abuser.
If you think like an abuser then it’s easier to spot what is going on. The idea of being manipulated or deliberately hurt is often not on the radar of women who are honest, genuine, kind.
I’m not ‘whitewashing’ female victims of intimate partner violence because no one is perfect, but if an abuser picks an abusive woman they usually find a third person to abuse together. Unfortunately it’s often their own children.

Tracy's-ex Den spoke when Oliver and Brad went to him while trying to find Chelsea; he was played by Laurence Saunders.

Last night's Dennis is in the cast list as "Den: Laurence Saunders"

Wow well remembered and great detective work. Well I was right about him being a wrong'un. Didn't he want money from Brad when he came to look for Chelsea?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/04/2023 10:44

No, buthe tried to get Oliver to give him £200 to repair his car so he could take Brad on a road trip in it. Oliver saw through that one all right! It seems to be only Grundys who hypnotise him into not spotting scams.
