Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that , or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Well, things have taken a turn for the better in the last few days! The SWs have re-discovered their form and the actors and directors have risen to the challenge. I won't say much more than that for fear of jinxing things. Over to you!

(Thanks to @JanglyBeads for the thread title idea!)

@Robertislovely nothing on that map is in the right place for my Ambridge!

Welcome to @Gonners and @Dean. I used to lurk on the old ML but never found a home after it folded until I came here. I do recognise elderberry and dragonfly though - funny how people turn up!

TonightMatthewIamgoingtobecher · 28/11/2022 07:53

I felt sorry for Jolene last night. That was unkind of Jill to ditch her. Good enough for lifts, but not for company.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 28/11/2022 08:05

There's something quite pleasing about Jill rediscovering her inner bitch. Remember the time she rounded on Lynda, decades ago - all the more impressive because she's usually all sweet and wise and nurturing.

Have we had any adequate explanation of why the Dopeys aren't borrowing the money using the land as collateral - if necessary letting some of it for a decade or so to cover the costs? Jill's horrified reaction to their idiocy is not unreasonable.

otoh, Vince's triumphant new luxury development, Pigsty Close, might bring some new silents to Ambridge.

I think Ruth said they already had enough debt.

What was Mustardland?

Waves to fellow Terfs.

SaltyCrisp · 28/11/2022 09:00

Didn't Ruth inherit £200k+ from Heatherpet. I know David said she'd bunged some into her pension but surely not all of it?

Didn't they spend some on the robot dairy?

LillianGish · 28/11/2022 09:13

Waves to fellow Terfs I'm hesitating whether or not to post this message, but I just wanted to say can we please leave all this sort of stuff for the appropriate threads. I don't know what anyone's politics are on here, whether or not they voted for Brexit etc and I actually rather like that. I feel like this a space where ANYONE can come to discuss The Archers - the only requirement would seem to me to be an interest in (and sometimes encyclopaedic knowledge of) The Archers. Fair enough to have, for instance, a discussion about abortion - when that is a theme in the storyline - but not just to randomly drop stuff in that might make other people feel uncomfortable and as if they are not welcome. I'm not looking for argument, I'm not trying to be the thread police, everyone is entitled to their views, but I would just question whether we need to air them on here if they are not Archers-related.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 28/11/2022 09:34

Mustardland, a 22 year + saga:

The BBC used to have many many excellent discussion boards, some of them related to the Archers. They had a distinctive blue background colour.

Then someone at the beeb with money to spend decided on a redesign and the Archers boards turned bright yellow, earning them the nickname Mustardland.

One member, Peet, and his friend Bob, created a parallel/tribute site (Peet's Mustardland) that got used from time to time when the BBC boards fell over.

When the BBC boards closed, some people migrated to Peet's site, others to yet another 'Mustardland' started by a poster named Sue, others again to other places, like here and the one my pals have been naughty-stepped from.

Sue's site didn't thrive for long, and closed. Bob died, Peet died, the servers on their site started to creak and a new new Mustardland was born, and still exists, still entertaining but with a much smaller membership than it had in its heyday.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 28/11/2022 09:39

Lillian, you're right of course - I was just answering a question.

I you 'have enough debt' why oh why would you put yourself under an obligation to a man with Casey's record for shady dealing and business blackmail? Did David think the connection with Elizabeth suddenly made Vince family, with magically enhanced business ethics?

Gonners · 28/11/2022 10:36

"Did David think ..." three words used to introduce a question to which the answer is invariably no.

SaltyCrisp · 28/11/2022 11:06

OK Lillian but I'm in favour of scrolling on by rather than laying down rules - other than MN forum guidelines of course. There is much on these threads that either doesn't interest me or isn't relevant to the Archers so I try (not always successfully!) to ignore.

The waves were, I assume, lighthearted. Mine was, as I'm not actually a radfem.

UrsulaPandress · 28/11/2022 11:39

Was it Lowfeld that used to do a daily resume. I miss that.

RobertsRadio · 28/11/2022 11:47

If I recall correctly, David wasn't at all keen to accept a loan from Vince and turned him down initially, despite Josh being very keen. Then Elizabeth stuck her oar in basically accusing David of being too much of a snob to accept the loan from her wonderful, generous boyfriend. So David then went against his instincts not to trust the bullying weasel Casey and signed the loan agreement without reading the T&C apparently, which is highly unlikely in my opinion.

I know it's supposed to be fiction, but could the SW at least try to give some credibility to the farming storylines. I cannot imagine any farmer not checking any loan agreement before he signed, farmers are usually pretty canny. Phil would never have done so and David learned his trade from his Dad, so it would have been drummed into David from a young age to always check the details of any financial documentation.

I know it's been said before but it is becoming more like EE every month.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 28/11/2022 11:48

Chris Ghoti still does daily summaries, very handy if you miss an episode or if your attention wanders for some reason. Googling paranormal mustardland will get you there.

ILoveShula · 28/11/2022 12:02

I remember Chris Ghoti from Mustardland!

It would be easier to go straight to the board where Chris Ghoti has posted them, I should think; they are not on the new-new-Mustardland board, it's just got a link to them somewhere.

These start the day after Lowfield stopped being put up. Before then I think there is a Lowfield page somewhere, but I asked for and got permission to save Lowfield's summaries onto my computer way back before they started having server-trouble, so I don't use their archive and I don't know where it is. Having all of Lowfield plus all of the more recent ones in easily-searchable form makes it easier for me to work out what happened when.

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/11/2022 12:17

I agree @LillianGish .

ILoveShula · 28/11/2022 13:38

Maybe Jazzer will win a Best Christmas Ever.

MereDintofPandiculation · 28/11/2022 14:54

I think Ruth said they already had enough debt. Yes, but as someone pointed out a few hndred posts ago, they’re about to reduce their debt by paying off Vince

ILoveShula · 28/11/2022 15:00

They wouldn't be reducing the debt if they took out a loan to repay Mince and interest rates have probably gone up.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 28/11/2022 15:19

The debt to Vince was said at the time to be of the "pay me back when you're ready, out of the profit you make selling electricity to the grid" kind, without any set figures or percentages mentioned.

Dodecaheidyin · 28/11/2022 15:20

I haven't RTFT so apologies if it's already been discussed but can anyone tell me what Jill said to Ben that caused all the furore?

ILoveShula · 28/11/2022 15:22

That she was ashamed of him from not stopping Chelsea from murdering her great-grandchild (or something like that)

ILoveShula · 28/11/2022 15:27

For not from.
