Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that , or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Well, things have taken a turn for the better in the last few days! The SWs have re-discovered their form and the actors and directors have risen to the challenge. I won't say much more than that for fear of jinxing things. Over to you!

(Thanks to @JanglyBeads for the thread title idea!)

Hurray!

MrsLyndaSnellMBE · 16/11/2022 13:48

Thank you, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g , for starting a new thread, and such an amusing title too, even if suggesting dedding Jill is a bit extreme.

FiveShelties · 16/11/2022 13:54

Thank you for the sparkling new thread and an excellent thread title.

GoldenCupidon · 16/11/2022 14:10

😂nice title

Voltefarce · 16/11/2022 14:12

Hi - long time reader/listener, first time poster. Taking the plunge with this new thread 😊

Juliejuly · 16/11/2022 14:12

I've just seen this sad news about Robert Snell in my local paper

I think Julianne is going to take against Paul majorly, even if nothing happens between him and Ruari.

StillWeRise · 16/11/2022 14:25

does she know he's bisexual?

SaltyCrisp · 16/11/2022 14:30

Welcome @Voltefarce

GoldenCupidon · 16/11/2022 14:42

Welcome new posters!

I don't know if Julianne knows much about Ruairi tbh, she always switches off when he talks about himself unless it's related to her control of him. Everytime he wants to go home she's trying to "book him" so he can't go home or has to leave.

MereDintofPandiculation · 16/11/2022 14:58

JanglyBeads · Yesterday 23:30
I think @MereDintofPandiculation that the poster was only pointing out that you couldn't make that comparison as a girl could nor have been in such a situation. Gender very much matters here.
A girl could equally be in a situation where her life seemed to have collapsed, her loved ones were suffering, she felt it was all her fault hand it certainly wouldn’t have happened had she behaved differently), and that she had no way of putting it right. Would a girl crying in those circumstances be criticised in the way Ben has? Perhaps, but I don’t think so.

EBearhug · 16/11/2022 15:14

She's paying for a service, so it's not like she ought to know too much about his private life.

LizziesTwin · 16/11/2022 15:18

I’d like Ruairi’s relationship with Julianne to come to an end. I don’t think it’s very realistic and I’d like him to come to terms with his own real life. I’d have thought she’d need to be around 40 at least for her level of success & wealth & simply can’t comprehend what he’d bring to her life. Maybe I’ve spent too much time with young men?

Hello all, I'm back! Welcome especially to all new posters, and thanks to @Juliejuly for the Graham Blockey obituary. Such sad news.

Is everyone else seeing the You might also like ... list of threads at the bottom of the thread? It amuses me that every single one they're recommending here is a thread I've started. Grin

Welcome back Gaspode! How are things?

Yes - there's a very angry thread on site stuff asking MNHQ to stop them!

Yes and they’re playing a dangerous game recommending the spoiler threads willy nilly Grin

Thanks, @GoldenCupidon, not too bad at present. Gearing up for my Mum's 90th soon. Shock She wants everything very low key, but I am going up to see them, trains and ferries permitting. Dad sounding a good bit better, which is great.

Talking of older people, I believe Jill is supposed to be 92. It's really preposterous to have no mention at all of any health issues, and for her to be cooking for the family and looking after Rosie, and not even complaining about being tired and needing a nap. Even David Attenborough and the Queen, both incredible for their age, have had to have some medical intervention (hip replacement for DA?). However, that's a niggle. In spite of her recent nastiness, I will be very sad when Jill goes. End of an era at Brookfield.

I didn't understand what it was supposed to be. Every single recommendation on my list is a previous iteration of this thread, which seems a bit pointless. I was on them at the time, they were great, but we've moved on now.

Thanks the new thread, Gaspode.

MrsLyndaSnellMBE · 16/11/2022 17:35

Quite. Six months ago, I expect we were talking about Grey Gables, cricket and Adil. The rave hadn't happened.

LillianGish · 16/11/2022 17:39

In spite of her recent nastiness, I will be very sad when Jill goes. End of an era at Brookfield. I agree. It's actually making me feel really old - I just want to cosy myself away in a farmhouse kitchen and I feel that era is on its way out. I used to love the Brookfield kitchen and remember Elizabeth creating a duplicate at LL because she loved it so much. Jenny has lost her kitchen (and now we've lost Jenny), Bridge Farm never really had the same vibe and Clarrie's kitchen was often full of ferrets or Joe Grundy so it's not quite the same. It's reminding me (and this is showing my age!) of when Emmerdale Farm - the saga of a farm in the village of Beckindale - turned into Emmerdale - a soap opera. I think The Archers is going (or perhaps has already gone) the same way.

With reason, now I've read through it! Incredibly insensitive stuff linked. Along the lines of 'You've read a thread about a beloved pet dying. Do you now want to read one about a beloved parent dying?' Shock

Looks like nobody at MN actually tested this out, or even thought through the obvious problems that might arise. Haven't they ever looked at Malgorithms in Private Eye?

Haven't they ever looked at Malgorithms in Private Eye? I was actually wondering if they were hoping to get into Private Eye.

I fear the Hunt Ball may turn into the Prom scene from Stephen King's Carrie
