Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that , or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Well, things have taken a turn for the better in the last few days! The SWs have re-discovered their form and the actors and directors have risen to the challenge. I won't say much more than that for fear of jinxing things. Over to you!

(Thanks to @JanglyBeads for the thread title idea!)

Well what a massive surprise. The actor who plays George is a good singer! It’s all a ridiculous contrivance to lead to a standalone show of the the cast singing carols. I hate it when you can see the scenery being moved in the background. Here he is

Oh wouldn't it be wonderful if he was being written as such a ridiculous villain to set us up for festive salvation plot! He could find expression and purpose in the arts and see the error of his ways whilst doing practical maths with Martin Gibson, who after being visited by 3 ghosts decides to up Jazzer's hours.

JanglyBeads · 22/11/2022 21:42

Brilliant @suzyscat

suzyscat · 22/11/2022 21:45

And obviously takes Tiny George under his wing.

….to rush out and buy the Christmas pig goose for the cold and starving Horrobins

GoldenCupidon · 22/11/2022 23:57

They went topical! I nearly fell off my stool

Bubbylana · 23/11/2022 05:05

Well the actor that plays George looks nothing like I pictured George to look like. The SWs seem to make all the young uns look abit nasty. Theres George whos a dodgy character Mia whose is leading lovely Brad astray and Chelsea who was a right old strop before the pregnancy. Is there any nice teenager's in The Archers?

Me too!

WhoppingBigBackside · 23/11/2022 08:45

@Bubbylana , Brad is nice, Ben was nice (he's 20 now)

The Chelsea actor was on All In The Mind

I was waiting in apprehensive dread for the moment when George decided now was the opportune moment to cop a feel of Fallon's diaphragm (ahem), purely to see how her breathing technique advice worked, you understand.

He's skin-crawlingly awful but unless and until he definitively crosses that line and everyone can see what a wrong'un he is, 'granper' Eddie, Granddad Neil and Grandma Clarrie will continue to coo admiringly over him.

I think George’s grandparents have the measure of him. Susan definitely has and both Neil and Clarrie are astute and good judges of character. They keep peddling the ‘he’s a good boy’ in hope more than anything else.

I don't think so. He's careful not to come out with any of the 'the Button sisters are well up for it, I've had them both' stuff in front of the adults. I think they realise that he isn't doing well in college, but they don't seem particularly hands on with it so I don't think they'd get the extent of how badly he's (probably) doing. They didn't take the stealing from his stepmother's memorial fund very far. They probably think that he's not a very astute businessman and quite dim (being conned over the pheasants), but I don't know that they've wised up to his more unsavoury personality traits.

Backy · 23/11/2022 13:23

I think Susan ‘knew’ he’d set fire to the postbox didn’t she? She had that very pointed, meaningful conversation with him about how awful it was being in prison.

AnnieJessie · 23/11/2022 16:37

Wasn't Ed in a lot of trouble as a teen? I think George probably shines in comparison to his step-father's troubled youth.

Ed was in trouble, but was misguided rather than evil. So possibly George's grandparents think he's going the same way, whereas his character is being portrayed as a downright nasty person in every respect. It's not so much what he's done (yet) as his whole outlook on life and opinions on everything. Ed was never like that.

I’m still a bit baffled as to what was the point of the Fallon George singing scene?

Have you never seen "A Star is Born?"

RandomCatGenerator · 23/11/2022 17:46

😂

echt · 23/11/2022 19:41

At what point will Beth find out about her father's nastiness, and put him right?

WhoppingBigBackside · 23/11/2022 20:13

Vince was completely out of order. I enjoyed the Ruairi and Paul bit.
I think we can look forward to Julianne ramping up the pressure.

eish · 23/11/2022 21:17

I think Vince is too extreme I hate it when the villains are pantomime rather than believable.

TottersBlankly · 23/11/2022 21:52

Apart from Tracy and David I didn’t believe in anything I heard tonight.

Ruairi and Paul’s conversation seemed laboured until the texts came up.

And this version of Vince is a different man to the one who swore allegiance to all Archers living or dead a few months ago when he offered the loan. Nothing rang true.

Scarydinosaurs · 23/11/2022 22:21

I enjoyed the ‘date’ scenes, and David with Tracy.

Vince we love to hate…I hope Elizabeth hears about it and it pushes her over.

LaGioconda · 23/11/2022 22:25

If Vince has a spare New Zealand ticket, could Elizabeth use it?

Octothorpe · 23/11/2022 22:32

Vince is beyond absurd now. What does he think he can do, sue them for the lost NZ money? He’d surely be laughed out of court if he tried to bluster that his 'little girl' and her boyfriend had broken up and Ruth and David owed the money for an expensive holiday bought as a gift.

TottersBlankly · 23/11/2022 23:11

David saying he would pay something was just about the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard on TA. There was no contract between any Archer and Vince regarding the holiday!

But anyway, I still firmly believe Ben and Beth will see in the NY in NZ.

TwoBlondes · 23/11/2022 23:36

Do we know if Vince and Elizabeth are actually still together? I don't remember hearing any reaction from her after he recalled the loan.
