He is an Ambridge male under thirty, and they all seem to be besotted by the very idea of having a baby in a way I haven't encountered in young men in real life.
I have, but they weren't all under 30. I can remember a very clucky boyfriend who was a few years older than me, and despite me being in my early 20s would go on about my biological clock and how I should want a baby by the time I was 25.
I also noticed how some men had 'wife and children' on their list of goals. They were often single 40-ish men with a decent job, own house and car, and would have a 'checklist' for a potential wife. By checklist, I mean 2 arms, 2 legs, under 40. If you dated them, you could see that they wanted to settle down with the first half-decent woman that came along.
I worked in a male-dominated sector, so there were a few of them.
You also see in on OLD. Lots of men are looking for women under 40. If they already have children, they are usually less bothered about age, but they are probably looking for a nanny-cum-housekeeper, or a nursemaid-cum-housekeeper for their later years.
I don't think it's just men who want the family, but in my experience the men were more keen on having children. Others have told me of their husbands getting broody too. It's not them doing the hard work, though, and most are not as hands on as Roy and Toby
