Spoilers thread for The Archers. Please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers Thread (hence the zipped mouth on the emoji!). Last spoilers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here

Current main Archers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4632741-archers-thread-139-whos-the-daddy-no-ceremonial-required-to-join-us-discuss-the-archers-here The main thread tends to last a few weeks. The spoiler thread runs for well over a year, but I strongly suspect it gets read about as much as the main thread.

Are the B&B guests going to be fed? Can we assume that Jill will be doing the catering?

TottersBlankly · 21/10/2022 17:35

Ben can pay maintenance from NZ. Plenty of other family to help with baby care.

WhoppingBigBackside · 21/10/2022 17:54

No need for plenty of family, Jill can do it all. Maybe Great-Auntie Radio can help.

TottersBlankly · 21/10/2022 19:00

I’m standing in a fish and chip shop with about a dozen people waiting. And no air pods. Forgot. Not sure whether to go and stand outside in the cold, or wait. 🤷🏽‍♀️

WhoppingBigBackside · 21/10/2022 19:04

You have to ask?

WhoppingBigBackside · 21/10/2022 19:18

How are the fish 'n' chips, Tott?

TottersBlankly · 21/10/2022 19:35

Still in the bag!

Got to the playing cards decision standing in the street, then they called my number. Brought back to grub and turned on the radio, so have just finished the episode.

Starving!

WhoppingBigBackside · 22/10/2022 11:43

Grin I hope they were delicious!

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 23rd – 28th October
2022
It's interesting how Kate, when under attack, doesn't bother with any of her Spiritual Home calming meditation. Instead she strides off on her enormous feet, hellbent on revenge. This week Kate is after Kirsty's blood as she thinks Ambridge's unluckiest resident has been sabotaging business at her holistic retreat, but Kirsty has a cunning Halloween plan.
While the pair stalk each other, Alice gets the cross-country course under way and Oliver wonders if the time is right for a Hunt Ball.
Plus, the ding-dong about Peggy's stained-glass window takes another turn, and Jill and Leonard push on with their B&B project.
This is all just background noise for poor Chelsea, who must make her decision now.

Oh for crying in the beer, she said she had decided yesterday... I suppose some meddlesome busybody is about to suggest she has it and then puts it up for adoption. Is Susan in the cast next week?

WhoppingBigBackside · 23/10/2022 11:57

Thanks Asking. I'm of the thought that Chelsea will change her mind, and the adoption route will be the result. I can't work out how Chelsea was sensible enough to get the MAP, but then not look into a medical termination as soon as she knew she was pregnant.
Bored of the stained-glass window, so bit of Kursedy should be a relief. I like Kursedy, even if my views on rewilding are mixed.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 23/10/2022 12:26

It may be that Ben puts a spanner in the works at this point. He is an Ambridge male under thirty, and they all seem to be besotted by the very idea of having a baby in a way I haven't encountered in young men in real life. And unlike Susan, he actually is in the cast.

The question I suppose is what does Ben propose to do with the baby once he's got it? Join the ranks of Ambridge Single Fathers who look after the child: Roy, Will, Christopher... Toby to an extent, because he always seemed to be looking after Rosie and getting stick from Pip for doing it all wrong (I am looking forward to Pip struggling a bit on her own and realising how much Toby did for his daughter every day).

Ben can't really afford a baby any more than Chelsea can, I wouldn't have thought, financially or in terms of commitment over many years, but he's the most likely reason for Chelsea being sensible to go for a Burton.

Chelsea won't be able to give up the baby for adoption if Ben or his family don't want her to. It seems very unlikely to me

Exactly. She knew the day after that she didn't want a baby, why did the fact that the MAP didn't work suddenly mean she couldn't bear even to think about what to do next?

WhoppingBigBackside · 24/10/2022 15:16

He is an Ambridge male under thirty, and they all seem to be besotted by the very idea of having a baby in a way I haven't encountered in young men in real life.
I have, but they weren't all under 30. I can remember a very clucky boyfriend who was a few years older than me, and despite me being in my early 20s would go on about my biological clock and how I should want a baby by the time I was 25.

I also noticed how some men had 'wife and children' on their list of goals. They were often single 40-ish men with a decent job, own house and car, and would have a 'checklist' for a potential wife. By checklist, I mean 2 arms, 2 legs, under 40. If you dated them, you could see that they wanted to settle down with the first half-decent woman that came along.

I worked in a male-dominated sector, so there were a few of them.

You also see in on OLD. Lots of men are looking for women under 40. If they already have children, they are usually less bothered about age, but they are probably looking for a nanny-cum-housekeeper, or a nursemaid-cum-housekeeper for their later years.

I don't think it's just men who want the family, but in my experience the men were more keen on having children. Others have told me of their husbands getting broody too. It's not them doing the hard work, though, and most are not as hands on as Roy and Toby

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 25/10/2022 07:49

**
Well that interfering idiot Jazzer certainly picked a spanner up with his witless "it's not too late to change your mind"

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 26/10/2022 17:54

Chelsea comes to an important decision, but how will this affect Ben & Beth – and what about Jazzer?

That might be a double bluff but Tracey's unequivocal statement on Tuesday that the pregnancy won't happen has me thinking it definitely will.

If there is a termination the effects on these 3 are minimal. If there is a baby that's probably the end of Ben 'n' Bore and Jazzer will go into grandfather mode.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/10/2022 18:07

It doesn't have to be that the baby being kept alive causes ructions; remember that the spoilers are notoriously (I suspect deliberately) misleading.

How about Ben getting all broody like so many other young Archers males and moping abut the place because his child has been murdered, and this causing Beth to decide she has had enough of him and leave?

Likewise Jazzer might be made thoroughly cross if he discovers that Ben was the father.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 26/10/2022 18:08

(I don't think that the RT or the Mail get a sneak preview or should that be prehear; I think they may get a press release from the BBC, which like the BBC synopses may or may not reflect what is actually broadcast.)

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 26/10/2022 21:19

After tonight's sentimental wittering from the comedy Scotsperson another possibility is the abortion does go ahead but Jazzer is plunged into depression about killing the unborn "bairn".

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 28/10/2022 17:41

Waiting for the Mail spoilers seems not to be worth it if I am not going to see them until Monday or Tuesday, so her goes with what I do have.

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 30th October – 4th November 2022
Now Chelsea has finally made the most important decision of her life, how will it affect those around her? While she chews on the consequences, a hair appointment leads to some surprisingly good advice.
Jolene looks to have got something terribly wrong, while Lynda plays sleuth with the help of willing accomplices. Freddie is on hand with tea and sympathy, while Ben just wants to hide himself away.
At Lower Loxley, Vince and Elizabeth are looking forward to a warm reunion - what could possibly get in the way? And Kirsty's plans for Halloween are also at risk, until an unlikely Ambridge resident steps in with some spooky entertainment.

ILoveShula · 28/10/2022 18:05

Thanks Asking!

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 28/10/2022 23:24

Not giving much away are there except hopefully we'll finally get a final decision from Chelsea on 30 October.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 29/10/2022 19:14

The Mail has come to hand:

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 30th October – 4th November 2022
Fabrice of Felpersham will have to buck his ideas up. He may have done marvels fluffing up Lynda, Susan and Jennifer's locks, but now he has a rival. Chelsea, despite all her woes, has been snipping away at Ambridge heads and this week, her talent has been spotted. Will this skill be enough to help her along the rocky road ahead?
Lots of us have been looking forward to Kirsty's Halloween walk, especially the bit that involves Kate, but a problem comes Kirsty's way, leaving her in need of a stalwart with a rescue plan.
Meanwhile, weary Vince makes his way through the Lower Loxley topiary, where he finds a warm welcome from the Widow Pargetter.

+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+

I haven't been looking forward to the bit of Kirsty's Halloween walk that includes Kate because I thought she'd managed to palm that off onto Lilian.

Chelsea has done Lynda's hair before, in November, 2021.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/10/2022 17:55

Many thanks, Asking!

Thanks Asking. Did Chelsea cut Lillian's hair before Lynda received her MBE? She has cut Beth's and the Fat Fairchild's hairs.
