Spoilers thread for The Archers. Please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers Thread (hence the zipped mouth on the emoji!). Last spoilers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here

Current main Archers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4632741-archers-thread-139-whos-the-daddy-no-ceremonial-required-to-join-us-discuss-the-archers-here The main thread tends to last a few weeks. The spoiler thread runs for well over a year, but I strongly suspect it gets read about as much as the main thread.

Well this week's spoilers fill me with a little bit of optimism for the week ahead. Thank you Asking. With Keri writing this week, at least the characters will be in character.

It's as if they've realised that we've not heard from Beechwood in months! Tony and Kirsty are back too. Happy birthday, Jill. Maybe the team will finally realise that she really shouldn't be chief cook and childminder at her age.

Good to hear that Gasp0Parents are coping.

At the risk of messing up my Amazon algorithms, I think Captain's hairdresser has something called a "Rockit portable baby rocker". What a gadget (assuming it works)!

3 Oct A very happy 92nd birthday

No doubt with Princess Bore currying favour again.

Well I see I was miles off the mark there!

Jill was most displeased.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/10/2022 11:00

But Beth did manage to make it All About Her, so that was a success for her anyway.

Goodness, that woman could whinge for England. No, for the northern hemisphere. She's got a perfectly reasonable cause for annoyance with Ben, but does she have to be so snide and pathetic at the same time, and make everyone else the butt of her ill-humour as well?

WhoppingBigBackside · 04/10/2022 11:43

I'd just bin Ben. The last thing I'd want to be would be a 'step'-mother to a child in the same village.

Wow Asking, you don't like her, do you. Smile

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/10/2022 11:52

I did, but then she started to whinge. Being untrusting about men because your first serious boyfriend did you dirt a couple of months ago is entirely reasonable, but "someone once cut my hair wrong so I can never trust a hairdresser" is pushing it a bit!

The glass is always half empty for Beth, sometimes two-thirds or three-quarters empty, and she's exhausting to listen to.

WhoppingBigBackside · 04/10/2022 13:26

Beth isn't negative about everything, but I don't think I could get past the horrobairn, termination or not. She likes her job, her father, Bess, Ruth and David, gets on OK with Josh, puts up with Jill

Madcats · 04/10/2022 13:31

How do we reckon that this is going to pan out?

If Beth stays around (with/without her own pregnancy), "death stares across The Green" won't really work on radio.

WhoppingBigBackside · 04/10/2022 13:46

No idea. I imagine given how far gone she is, Chelsea will have the baby.
I think we'll be stuck with Beth and that it won't make for pretty listening. Soap SWS don't like terminations.
Lizard had one, but that was because Shula had struggles with her fertility.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/10/2022 15:29

And Annette had one so that Helen would decide that all she wanted was a baby of her very own so she would have someone who would always give her unreserved love, and the relationship she was quite unable to get in any other way – it isn't me saying that, she said it herself on air.

Novum · 04/10/2022 17:17

Th "Next On" trailers have Chelsea making a decision on the 21st, which seems incredibly late if it's about termination. Let's hope they're teasing us and it's about concentrating our her college course after the termination, and never having unprotected sex ever, ever again.

ILoveShula · 06/10/2022 11:54

The hot tub and bar are going to be a joy (pun intended) to have next door, aren't they.
At what point is Chelsea going to realise that she has to make a decision about the pregnancy? Will Nurse Ben and Mother-of-2 Tracey figure out that Chelsea is now past the 3 months mark.
I know some women who did not find out until 23 weeks or later, but usually at three months + others will figure that a woman is in the family way.

ILoveShula · 06/10/2022 12:19

21/10 will be 16 weeks and a Friday. The decision will be made just before the 'doof doof's.

That sounds about right.

ILoveShula · 06/10/2022 15:25

The decision will be made after she has felt the baby move, and been told that her option if she wants a termination will be surgical.
She will probably tell Ben that she's decided to keep it. Doof doof.

[Weekend of frantic activity on MNTA]

Sunday: something completely unrelated like Kenton's Diary, Peasants with Pheasants, Joy's Hot Tub, or Soily Underpants.

Monday: Ben tells Bethly Boring. Beth wails.

TottersBlankly · 06/10/2022 15:34

Better that, than Chelsea begging Ben to filch some medical abortion pills from the hospital as she’s ‘only’ two weeks past that deadline …

Or Beth doing the begging.

Madcats · 06/10/2022 18:21

Random qn (but it struck me that it is plain weird that Oliver lives with/tolerates the Grundys and his only other friends appear to be the Horrobins), but has Oliver's daughter appeared in Ambridge at all?

The actor himself is 75, so they are presumably thinking up a plan for his eventual exit.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 06/10/2022 18:36

We haven't heard any/either of Oliver's children.

Madcats · 06/10/2022 18:47

Two?! Even better.

Surely his children are a teeny tiny bit puzzled about their father?

Opportunity missed, R4.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 06/10/2022 18:50

One of them took their mother's side in the divorce and has nothing to do with him, and he has just come back from a visit to the/an other, I think in the States.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/10/2022 13:46

I forgot that yesterday was Saturday! OH is away for a long weekend, so have been slobbing about and not paying attention.

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 9th – 14th October 2022
Lots of deep thinking in Ambridge this week, as the Grundys reflect on a sad anniversary, Tracy worries about Chelsea, and Lily feels adrift. Will a big night out help? Eddie has plans for the opposite kind of evening with Clarrie, but their cosy night is interrupted.
George is on his best behaviour, with a little help from Emma, but Joy is worried she may have inadvertently offended Helen and Lee, and Natasha spots something that starts her wondering.
Meanwhile, Peggy's window at St Stephen's is dividing the parish. Though Alan can't hide his feelings, it may be left to the committee to decide its fate.

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 9th – 14th October 2022
The Grundys reflect on the three-year anniversary of Joe's death this week – and speaking of old schemers, Emma's not impressed by Eddie's recent prank with Kenton, and suggests how he can make it up to neglected Clarrie.
However, Eddie and Clarrie's cosy night is about to be rudely interrupted.
George, meanwhile, is being remarkably considerate – so he must be up to something – and Susan is concerned about her stressed-out sister Tracy, making her feelings known when it comes to pregnancy and raising children.
And spare a thought for poor old Lily, who is feeling adrift and stuck in the past.
Can a night out with loved ones help her find her way back?

I don't think a committee is what decides about the window; I think the Parochial Church Council plus Alan, and then some official in the diocese in consultation with various interested parties, say yea or nay to it. Does anyone know the actual procedure for Peggy getting her vanity-project accepted?

WhoppingBigBackside · 09/10/2022 15:04

Thanks Asking. Who is Clare? What's Natasha going to see - it could be to do with Bruce Lee and Hellin, the church window, or is she going to guess that Chelsea is up the duff?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/10/2022 15:18

I sort of hope Claire may be the health professional Chelsea finally goes to see.

Susan Jeffrey has spoken in TA before:
She was Janice Longfield on 10th April, 2013, when Janice and Calum gave a talk at the WI about their experience of living with Downs syndrome.
She was the doctor when Adam was knocked out and hospitalised by the machinery thieves in 2012.

So she has form for being a one-off-appearance actor in TA.

Madcats · 09/10/2022 15:49

Oh dear. The obsession with Kenton's diary will be replaced by Joy's sex pond.

I might skip a week.

Natasha is far too self centred to notice that- or anything else not Natasha related really
