Spoilers thread for The Archers. Please keep all spoiler-related discussion in this thread and do not spill the beans on the main Archers Thread (hence the zipped mouth on the emoji!). Last spoilers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here

Current main Archers thread here: www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4632741-archers-thread-139-whos-the-daddy-no-ceremonial-required-to-join-us-discuss-the-archers-here The main thread tends to last a few weeks. The spoiler thread runs for well over a year, but I strongly suspect it gets read about as much as the main thread.

Thanks Asking

Who is Kevin Ambrose? Have we encountered him before?

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/10/2022 17:51

Google informs me that the Kevin Ambrose actor used to play Mark Hebden Confused

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/10/2022 18:10

He'll probably turn out to be the reason Eddie and Clarrie get their cozy evening in interrupted, or something.

TottersBlankly · 09/10/2022 18:17

Gosh, Richard Derrington is 72 now! Shock

I’ll assume he isn’t Lily’s next boyfriend … If they hadn’t given the character’s full name I’d be certain he’s one of the silver hot-tub crowd - but Mick himself isn’t granted a surname.

Poor Mark. Every time I think of him all I remember is firstly, Shula’s horror when Usha materialised in her world and secondly, Caroline. Caroline slumming it in a tent, on a camping trip with her vicar fiancé (and his daughter?). And how, after poor Mark was dead, she dumped Robin - wasn’t she still in hospital? (All corrections to my memory grimly appreciated.)

Those were the days …

TottersBlankly · 09/10/2022 18:17

Thank you Asking!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/10/2022 18:21

I think the most memorable thing Mark did was probably trying to get Susan off when she was on trial for sheltering Clive when he was on the run.

Natasha will bump into Chelsea at the baby clinic.
The likelihood of Chelsea carrying twins is slim but the Ambridge fertility fairy will strike again

dulcieM · 09/10/2022 19:50

What has happened to Jennifer? She hasn’t appeared for months.

Almost right @ILoveShula !

ILoveShula · 12/10/2022 13:00

I wonder if I'm right about it being twins. Chelsea is going to have a week or two of dithering, then going to need to make a decision. Either she won't decide or she'll not be able to go through with it.

It will be all round Ambridge once the Baby Trazzer rumour is denied, and then people will start to figure out that long-faced Ben is the one who played hide the sausage with Chelsea.

That part of it will be ok, but I'm not looking forward to lots of Chelsea behaving like a teenager and Beth's snivelling whines.

Octothorpe · 13/10/2022 09:51

Popping over from the main thread to share the eyebrow-raising theory I just saw on Twitter (and hello to anyone who’s come over to read it!)

The speculation was that, as Tracy was seen in the midwifery dept by inveterate gossip Natasha, the rumour that she's pregnant will spread faster than wildfire. Tracy will become aware and, in a spirit of motherly self-sacrifice (and presumably because Chelsea is still wailing that she can’t decide what to do) will at least offer to pretend the baby is indeed hers and Jazzer's 😱

No idea whether they’d have the nerve to try and pull this level of ridiculousness off but given recent SLs, it honestly wouldn’t surprise me that much if they did.

WhoppingBigBackside · 13/10/2022 10:13

Thanks, Octothorpe. I hadn't thought of that one, and it would make quite a storyline. My thoughts were that Tracy and Jazzer would bring up the child as their own, but the Tracey pretending to be the mother is a bit 'Desperate Housewives' and how about when the sprog turns out to be the spitting image of Ben? Ben knows it's his baby.

WhoppingBigBackside · 13/10/2022 10:16

The twitter suggestion would chime in with Tracey's ominous declaration that she would never miss a shift again.

TottersBlankly · 13/10/2022 10:45

I’m not sure Twitter has thought that speculation through!

Where would be the benefit? There isn’t sufficient stigma against a teenage pregnancy in a supportive home to make it necessary to lie. Just as many people would raise an eyebrow at the irresponsibility of 47 year old Tracy jeopardising her work and income by having another baby.

And besides, half of Borsetshire already knows it’s Chelsea who’s pregnant. Would all those people have to lie forever after??

Octothorpe · 13/10/2022 11:07

I agree, Totters, but a lot of people seem to like the idea!

Madcats · 13/10/2022 11:36

That would be an interesting storyline (and I am sure it wasn't uncommon 50 years ago). Where would they pack Chelsea off to for the next 15 weeks? Sunderland?
Would the Dopeys pay?

WhoppingBigBackside · 13/10/2022 12:26

Tracey would need a fake bump

I'm pretty sure it happened in the first half of the 20th century.
There would be an unsuitable boyfriend and then the daughter would go away to convalesce, the baby would be adopted, and the daughter would come home.

Or the daughter would have the baby and her parents would bring up the child as if it were their own.

It wasn't uncommon for there to be a big gap between the penultimate and last child.

I know someone not that much younger than me who has 2 children in their early 20s and a toddler, and they're full siblings.

I agree. These days any criticism would be of Tracey and Jazzer being too dim to prevent a pregnancy at their age.

Far too many people would have to lie.
Jim, Alastair, Lily, Freddy, Russ, Elizabeth, Beth, Ben, Josh, Pip, Susan, Neil- have I missed anyone?

LillianGish · 13/10/2022 14:03

This possibility had crossed my mind, but far too many people know about Chelsea's pregnancy for this to work. This is my first foray into spoilers - I don't think it actually counts as a spoiler as it is no more a spoiler than any of the speculation on the other thread or Bore's predictions. (Scurries back quickly to the other thread to avoid any hints or clues)

Octothorpe · 13/10/2022 14:32

Thanks @LillianGish - I’m quite paranoid about getting a scolding, as you can probably tell! 😂

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 14/10/2022 17:17

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 06/10/2022 15:07

That sounds about right.

No it won't. It will be 18 weeks.

Thanks @TheLassWiADelicateAir .
That suggests to me that Chelsea's decision is that the pregnancy will go ahead.
Might Paul Mack be a locum vet nurse?
