You were right, @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g . I'd like to see Will's sculptures.
Maybe Chelsea will be cutting Denise's braids or Toyah's tresses.
I thought TW's cameo was fine, probably because she is also an actor.
I hope that Brad and Mere get good grades on Thursday.

Thanks, Asking! I was assuming Toyah would turn up as this year's token celebrity.

If she opened the fête it was without the slightest fanfare; what's the point of getting hold of someone to be a "draw" and then totally failing to mention them in advance?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/08/2022 17:29

It certainly didn't sound as if she opened the fete, just dropped in. I actively avoid things like that, but I suppose some people must enjoy them.

How many bedrooms does the Grange Farmhouse have? I don't recall it being very big when the Grundys originally lived there. Wouldn't Oliver and Caroline have upgraded the bedrooms and added en-suite bathrooms. Is George going to try to get Oliver's bedroom?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 26/08/2022 17:02

Where did Joe sleep? He seems to feel he's channelling Joe, so maybe there.

As for the answer to your question, buildings on The Archers have the number and types of rooms required for the storyline at any given point. How very old-fashioned and literal of you to think they will remain the same from one year to the next!

In 2000, Oliver Sterling bought a house with six bedrooms when he bought Grange Farm.

Madcats · 26/08/2022 20:10

Grange Farm is going to cost the Grundys an absolute bomb to heat this winter.

I caught up with about a week of episodes today. Did anybody else head over to Youtube to look at Toyah Willcox and Robert Fripp's Sunday Lunch?

MuddlerInLaw · 26/08/2022 20:18

Well, the SWs won’t mention it. (Probably.) And even if it did come up the Grundy men would just chop down every tree in Borsetshire. Or Oliver would cover the fuel bills. I suspect the real life situation will be too ever-changing over the next few months for TA to want to touch it. Far too awkward when you’re writing weeks in advance.

WhoppingBigBackside · 26/08/2022 20:32

Joe had his own bedroom. He died in it.

Ah, yes, the Ambridge Bedroom Fairy. 6 bedrooms. IIRC Wiwyum and Edwood shared a bedroom, Joe shared his with his ferrets, and the largest went to Eddie & Clarrieluv. Eddie tried to partition an 'on sweet' from it.

I already knew of them. Tbh, I find them excruciatingly embarrassing.

Well, we seem to be back to only one stranger this week.

BBC One Liners

31 Aug Can Josh and Beth be friends? Kenton and Shula have a heart-to-heart.
01 Sep Ruairi has a close encounter, and Alice needs a favour.
02 Sep Tracy gets a shock, and Kenton has a brainwave.

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 28th August - 2nd September 2022
With Shula embarking on a whole new life, Kenton & David set out to send her off in style, while Justin & Lilian are divided on her possible replacement at the Stables.
Elsewhere, family heart-to-hearts are in the air. As Beth prepares for a big chat with Jill, it's time for Tracy to 'fess up to her work situation and possibly accept an offer of help. Of course, Chelsea also has something to say on the matter, while Jazzer has big plans for her 18th birthday and Alistair is hoping his 60th will pass without notice.
Ruairi's business arrangement with Julianne appears to be on a collision course with the rest of his life, while elsewhere, an item of underwear raises eyebrows.

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 28th August - 2nd September 2022
For the sake of discretion, and in case Jennifer Aldridge is within earshot, let's call Ruairi and Julianne's relationship a 'business arrangement'. Up till now their transactions have taken place a long way from Ambridge, so Ruairi's been able to keep his affairs out of sight from the village, but now there's a chance his worlds are about to collide. To add to this general air of sauciness, a missing item of underwear becomes a source of intrigue ...
On a more respectable footing, plans for Shula's big send-off get underway. Alice and Chris are also making plans for Martha's naming ceremony, but Alice needs to ask Susan for a big favour, which - given their troubled past - will take delicate negotiating.

Here's next week's RT pinched from Musterland

Radio Times 3 - 9 September 2022

Ambridge is preparing for the Flower and Produce Show, with Rex all but certain of victory in one event - but what's Oliver up to?

Lily is celebrating, and starting university means her departure from Felpersham Kitchens. Russ is excited at the prospect of finding a home of their own, but he could be in for a nasty surprise.

Harrison is in demand, but things appear to be spiralling out of control. Alistair is also out of his comfort zone, and Jolene finds herself having to take the reins.

Tracy fails in her attempt to stay calm and Fallon has a bone to pick, while Brad is forced into a confession, with possibly shocking consequences.

Cast: Jolene, Harrison, Susan, Brad, Chelsea, Russ, Tracy, Alistair, Jim, Jazzer, Freddie, Lily, Fallon, Oliver, Den (Laurence Saunders)
Writer: Sarah Hehir

MuddlerInLaw · 03/09/2022 11:34

but he could be in for a nasty surprise.

Oh - praise be! Thank the Lord! Hallelujah a thousand times! Lily isn’t going to let him do university with her! <Prays>

Anything else would be unsatisfactory.

Thanks, Lass.

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 03/09/2022 11:48

I think the surprise is Princess Lily is going on her own (here's hoping Lily finds a different way to mess up her degree -she's such an irritating, spoilt, condescending, stuck-up brat. If push came to shove and I could dead either her or Pip, I'd choose to save Pip)

It'd be very quick for Chelsea to announce her pregnancy and Russ to be named as father

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 03/09/2022 11:56

Or alternatively Lily can bore off to university never to be heard of again.

WhoppingBigBackside · 03/09/2022 16:16

I think Den might be Chelsea's father?
I like Lily. Not as a person but as a character. I love Freddy though.
I don't love Pip, but I suspect that if it was a choice between her and Bethly Boring, Pip would be saved

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/09/2022 16:28

Thanks, Asking! It seems ridiculously implausible for Russ to be the father, but we've never had the slightest indication of any sexual relationship between Chelsea and any other man. There was the suggestion that he didn't remember what happened the night of the rave. Eurgh.

Whatever it is, I hope Lily is soon rid of him. She deserves better. He's a great love-to-hate character, though.

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 4th – 9th September 2022
If you've been growing something vast but inedible this hot summer, why not load it on to a wheelbarrow and head for Ambridge's Flower and Produce Show? The field is wide open now that Bert, Joe and their dubious way with marrows are out of the running. You'd have to find your own way there, though. Watch out if your route goes past the Horrobin home, where Tracy boils over, Chelsea takes action and Brad confesses.
Elsewhere, Harrison is in demand, Fallon has a bone to pick and Jolene takes the lead, adding to an already dramatic week.
To top it all, the past - as it so often does - comes back to haunt some Ambridgers, while for one couple storm clouds gather on the horizon.

================================================================
Seems to me that if Den is Chelsea and Brad's absentee father, he owes their maintenance for a decade or so and Tracy's money-worries are over. (I know that isn't how it works, but hey, this is The Archers, since when was reality relevant?)

I wonder how we know Rex is all but certain of victory when he isn't in the cast. I suppose his quiet confidence is reported by, oh, I don't know, Susan to Jim, or Fallon to Jazzer.

Looking further ahead in the "Next on" previews, there seems to be a LOT of tension and stress around LL and Lily.

Looking further ahead in the "Next on" previews, there seems to be a LOT of tension and stress around LL and Lily.

There is but I'm not convinced that is due to Chelsea's up duffness. Why would Russ know about it at this stage?

Mystic Bore is suggesting Russ didn't have sex with Chelsea but might think he is the father because he can't remember what happened at the rave.

But this early on if Chelsea chooses an abortion no-one will likely know except Tracey and Jazzer If she doesn't, Russ isn't likely to know until the rest of the village does, even if he were the father.
