My guess on Kirsty/Helen is that Philip says "OK, if you don;t want a massive do let's have a quiet register office ceremony and not invite anyone" and helen forbids it on the grounds that this is what she and Rob did and look what a disaster that was.

I suppose Michael may be something to do with the funeral? Paul Stonehouse, who plays him, had a bit part as Matthew Watkins in February 2013. (No, I didn't remember him either, but he seems to have been the commercial relations manager at Elizabeth's bank when she was trying to get a loan to convert the Old Dairy into an accommodation-block.)

Madcats · 17/01/2020 15:53

I do like a Keri week. It means the there is a fighting chance that the characters will be acting...in character!

I see Phoebe is not on the cast list again this week - I wonder whether rewilding has been kicked into the long grass for a month or two (or until somebody works out what subsidies/grants they can claim after 31 January)?

Seeing Ian Craig's name reminds me that the pair only have another couple of months left in which to apply for a parental order.

MikeUniformMike · 17/01/2020 16:19

Thanks AskingQuestionsAllTheTime

SurpriseSparDay · 17/01/2020 19:38

Thank you!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/01/2020 08:15

Thanks! I have a hunch that Jazzer is going to tell Jim he also experienced sexual abuse as a child. That would explain his very extreme reaction to Jim's experiences. Sad

TherapistInATabard · 18/01/2020 10:23

Oh I hope not gaspode. I wondered if someone else at the funeral might say they’d been abused by Jayston as well.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/01/2020 15:56

I've been sent this too:

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update Jan 19-24
Jim, Alistair and Jazzer go on the road for a trip that will take Jim to some dark places, but could bring him peace of mind. Those three crazy guys head across the foaming torrents of the mighty Am, leaving behind a village in torment.
Will The Bull survive the changes Angus Shrimpton has proposed - and will it even still be called The Bull?
Over in another of Ambridge’s many hospitality units, Ian sets his spy to work to find out just what Hugh is getting up to in the Grey Gables kitchen.
Kirsty - having cooked up all kinds of trouble after her attempt to get Gavin to scale down his wedding plans -struggles, while elsewhere, things boil over, leading to an emotional confession.

Equanimitas · 18/01/2020 17:45

More one liners up:

19/01: Ian is determined to uncover the truth and Eddie is not happy with recent developments
20/01: Philip makes a controversial suggestion and Natasha's efforts take their toll.
21/01: Helen offers some tough love and Jolene starts to have second thoughts.
22/01: It's a big day for Jim and there's an awkward encounter for Lee.
23/01: Jim is shocked by an emotional confession and Rex finds himself accused
24/01: Kirsty has a change of heart and Burns Night proves a disappointment for some.
26/01: Jim is surprised by an unexpected visitor and Philip puts his foot in it.
27/01: There's chaos at Brookfield and Alistair digs for information.
28/01: Josh hits rock bottom and Johnny makes a lifestyle change.
29/01: Kate's idea looks set to cause ructions and Gavin continues to make his presence felt.
30/01: Neil faces a dilemma and Jim defies expectations.
31/01: Kirsty faces a shock and Josh holds his hands up.
02/02: Kirsty attempts to keep the peace and Pip reaches the end of her tether
03/02: Kate makes her presence felt and Neil questions his future
04/02: Lynda goes into battle and Neil reaches a decision
05/02: Lee has a confession to make and Freddie makes a fool of himself
06/02: There’s more bad news at Brookfield and Jill attempts to rally the family
07/02: There’s a shock for Alice and Kirsty makes a breakthrough

Oh dear, sounds like lots of huffing and puffing from David and smugness from Pip if Josh is getting into trouble.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/01/2020 18:07

Thanks, all!

Therapist - Equanimitas' spoilers seem to be leading the way you are thinking. Some stranger is going to get in touch with Jim? I hope not. I could do without this storyline.

Shock for Alice - pregnancy, redundancy, discovery that Chris is having an affair, results of liver function tests?

Lee's confession taken in combination with the awkward encounter - baffled. Did he have a ONS with Kate? Can't think of anything else to explain this.

Freddie making a fool of himself - situation normal

Lynda goes into battle - petition, which oddly she seems to be doing the old-fashioned way asking people to sign printed sheets with a biro, rather than online

I hope Neil stays put and sacks Hannah for reasons that wouldn't make it possible for her to go an Employment Tribunal, or he strongly encourages her to leave, and she does. I wonder if Johnnie's lifestyle choice is not to share with Hannah any longer. If he leaves, I won't be responsible for my actions. Johnnie is one of the very few good things about TA at the moment. Angry

Pip reaching the end of her tether - she goes to Brazil after all? Oh please, oh please ...

Madcats · 20/01/2020 10:11

The thing about these "shocks" is they are invariable just a minor surprise.

Granted there might be a bit of duplication of spoilers in this thread, but there are 115 "shocks" or "shocking" incidents referred to above in about 13 months.

I am not so sure that Alice will be pregnant-yet-what with Rosie, then Xander, we've had plenty of Archers' babies for a while. Wouldn't it be good if the "shock" for Alice was discovering Phoebe sat in the "Bat" looking for jobs on Linkedin/Indeed (do they still have computers in the Bull, or did I imagine that)?

MikeUniformMike · 20/01/2020 11:01

By Ambridge standards, Alice being no longer a teenager is unlikely to have a baby for about 10 years, unless she has a one night stand.
In soaps, a ONS usually results in a baby, and Christmas is peak time for giving birth.

The shocks are usually mild surprises, unless they are flagged up well in advance.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 20/01/2020 16:27

I have kept all the BBC one-liners since May 2013. mostly because I haven't bothered to throw them out when they stopped being spoilers. (Must clear out the computer a bit!)

If I do a search-and-replace in that file since 1st January 2019 the letters "shock" get replaced 29 times. That covers "shocks", "shocking" and any other word with "shock" in it.

Since May 2013 there have been 75 uses of "shock".

I don;t think any of them was anything which actually did shock me. When something really is shocking, they tend not to tell you in advance -- things like rape, The one-liner for Thursday 27th August, 2015, is "Rob is very persuasive, and Lower Loxley is transformed." and for Wednesday 16th March, 2016, when Helen went to bed early to escape him and Rob forced sex on his pregnant wife the one-liner is "Helen is vulnerable and out of the loop. Shula and Dr Locke talk families..."

Madcats · 21/01/2020 18:45

It probably belongs on here, rather than the main thread, but I have just seen a tweet from Keri Davies to the effect that we won't be hearing from Lexi for the foreseeable future. #Lexit!

MikeUniformMike · 21/01/2020 19:35

Love the #Lexit @Madcats. Lexi Leggs it.

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 26-31 Jan
Jim is on the receiving end of a surprise when Fiona turns up. She’s adamant that she just wants to make sure he’s OK. But when Alistair digs for information about why Fiona has cut her holiday short, he discovers that she’s been keeping a secret of her own.
Adam and Ian are worried Kate is taking her aunt duties too seriously. By the week’s end, she’s offered to organise a naming ceremony for Xander, but does chaos lie ahead?
The Brookfield Archers, meanwhile, are going out to impress Vince as he checks out the barn venue for his daughter Steph. But just when it looks as though Ruth and David might win him round, disaster strikes ...

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update Jan 26-31
The Police make yet another swoop on the village. Borsetshire Police now have an entire ops room - full of maps, mug shots and furrow-browed Officers - entirely given over to the nest of thieves and varmints that is Ambridge. This time, they’ll be screeching to a halt outside Brookfield, but which particular Archer will they be after?
Kirsty continues to walk round in a rosy glow, but the dark force currently controlling Ambridge won’t let that last.
Kate carries on herding unwilling villagers to her dodgy enterprise, Spiritual Home - with young Xander as her latest victim - while Johnny cracks on along his own path to self improvement.
Meanwhile Fiona turns up (and turns out to have a secret), Neil gets an offer, and takings at The Bull take a dip.

Thanks, Asking! Some promising stuff there. (Hope springs eternal ...)

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/01/2020 02:00

Thanks Asking. Hoping Neil will leave the pig factory and become a happy pig farmer again, in partnership with Rex.

And the cannibal pigs will turn on Hannah.

SurpriseSparDay · 30/01/2020 18:18

Good to see it looks as if any change for Neil will be positive - he doesn’t deserve any misfortune.

Thank you for the spoilers!

Josh is still struggling to find his place on the farm and ends up incurring the wrath of Pip when he puts his foot in it once again. And the problems continue to mount at Brookfield as Vince squeezes the family for discounts on his daughter’s wedding.
Things are looking up for staff at the pub when they attract business from corporate go-getters. This is exactly the kind of clientele they’re trying to encourage, but what Kenton and Jolene haven’t foreseen is Lynda’s plan to sabotage the event.
And with Valentine’s Day approaching, Helen is keen to make it a special occasion for her and Lee. But then comes an unexpected confession …

Radio Times Ambridge Diary Feb 9-14
Freddie and Ben try to persuade Johnny to join them on their wild night out. But after getting a shock response, Freddie worries about what’s troubling his best mate - and then makes a concerning discovery.
There’s still no truce in the war between the B at Ambridge and the protesters. But it soon becomes clear that one Ambridge resident is playing both sides for personal gain - how long will they be able to get away with it?
And tensions rise in the equine community when several horses are found to be overweight. One client in particular incurs Jakob’s wrath - perhaps the vet needs to rein it in a bit, even when dealing with neighsayers.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/02/2020 09:43

Ben's been let out of the cereal cupboard! Thanks, Asking.

I hope Alistair isn't about to have a gambling relapse. That could explain the trying his luck line and Freddie making a worrying discovery, but to be fair almost anything can be a worrying discovery in Ambridge. 'We're out of Coco Pops, Mum!' or 'That 747's very low over Lakey Hill ...'

SurpriseSparDay · 07/02/2020 09:49

Won’t Freddie’s discovery be Johnny’s online order for steroids?

Thanks, Asking!

MikeUniformMike · 07/02/2020 19:52
