Either that or Jim's being sick was actually illness rather than getting drunk in the pub rather than at home. I hope that isn't it, but would it fit the spoilers in much the same way? "making t[h]e Prof too ill to read any ghost stories in the haunted attics?" is what I am thinking of there.

23/01: Jim is shocked by an emotional confession and Rex finds himself accused

Sounds like they are developing the Jim abuse SL.

I'm not surprised if Burns Night is a disappointment, given that they seem to be celebrating it on the wrong day.

Radio Times 4th - 10th January 2020
Long-time Archers fans will recall the howl of anguish that Kirsty gave in 2014 when she was jilted at the altar by Tom. It was certainly an Ambridge wedding to remember, but for all the wrong reasons. So I'm braced for more emotional turmoil as Philip now wonders whether this might be an opportune time to propose to Kirsty. After such a rotten experience when it comes to her previous marriage attempt, what will her answer be?
Jazzer and Alistair are fretting about whether to be honest with Jim after last week's discovery. Following much debate, the two of them break the news to him. but will Jim react in the way they expect?

It now looks as though Harrison Burns may be going to tell Jazzer (why? surely it would be extremely unprofessional of him?) something about Jim's past life.

Though the chances are that it won't be that simply because the spoilers are designed not to give anything away, as a rule. And "Harrison has shocking news" might equally be something utterly implausible about Josh.

MikeUniformMike · 04/01/2020 14:18

Thanks Asking.
It's always "shocking" isn't it.
Philip proposes to Kirsty?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/01/2020 19:31

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update Jan 5-10
Philip considers if the time is right to propose to Kirsty - but after such a bad experience with her previous attempt at marriage, and the recent problems with Gavin, what will Kirsty’s answer be?
Jazzer and Alistair, meanwhile, have been dithering about whether to tell all to Jim - and this week, they break the shocking news to the Prof.
There’s also dithering and discussion over at The Bull, where Kenton, Jolene and Lilian wonder just how far they should go in sprucing up the place.
Pigman Neil, however, puts an end to all the shilly-shallying and wades into the fray, while over at Brookfield, Josh returns to a home that’s very different from the one he left.

MikeUniformMike · 04/01/2020 19:37

Thanks Asking.

Brookfield may well be different. Probably won't have sprouted an extra bedroom, but you never know.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/01/2020 19:37

Two shockings in one week, MUM, about two different things.

Last year the word was used in ten BBC one-liners. This year so far, one last week and one this.

MikeUniformMike · 04/01/2020 19:56

Two shockings is quite normal, Asking. One of them won't really even be a surprise.

Equanimitas · 05/01/2020 01:40

I don't really say why Jayston's death should be shocking. I can see that it may well stir up all sorts of emotions, but a 90 year old dying isn't going to be that much of a surprise.

I do hope Neil wading into the fray means Hannah getting into trouble.

MikeUniformMike · 06/01/2020 09:39

Was considering renaming The Bull shocking enough? About as likely as the Dopeys move to Northumberland if you ask me.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 06/01/2020 12:39

Maybe the trouble I have is that literally nothing stupid in TA would shock me nowadays. And almost always what they call "shocking" I would call "stupid": like renaming the Bull.

MollyButton · 06/01/2020 16:06

Well obviously quite a few of those relate to the silly name change story. I suspect Jolene turns it into a competition - with the winner announced on Burn's night (or the Brun's night celebration).
And it will remain the Bull or for some advertising for Roy's Actor - The Old Bull.

MikeUniformMike · 06/01/2020 16:17

The Load Of Bull?

Equanimitas · 08/01/2020 16:48

I wonder if the 22nd is Jayston's funeral? I'd quite like Jim to go along to piss (metaphorically at least) on his grave.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/01/2020 12:26

Erk. Friday snuck up behind me and said "Boo!" and I realised I forgot to post this on Thursday....

Radio Times Ambridge Diary Jan 12-17
In what is surely going to be the week’s most uneasy encounter, Tom calls round to see his former fiancée Kirsty to offer support after news about her and Philip spreads around the village. But will his visit be appreciated?
Not that Kirsty will have much time to react, as there’s going to be another unexpected visitor at the door, in the form of her mother …
Alistair is literally caught with his trousers down when a neighbourly act of kindness goes awry, while over at The Bull Lilian is dreading delivering some news to Peggy, but ends up being surprised by her mother’s attitude. Though when Lynda gets wind of the situation, she’s very quick to have her say.

(D'you reckon I can safely say that Gavin is Gavin Moss, in my records?)

Equanimitas · 10/01/2020 14:28

Gawd, not more 5 year old "humour" around bottoms.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/01/2020 01:24

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update Jan 12-17
There is a perfectly good reason why Alistair is found with his trousers round his ankles, but few are willing to believe it.
While rumours about the luckless vet run through the village, Tom is quick to pay a visit to the girl he left howling at the altar, but will his presence be welcome?
Matrimony is on the air at Brookfield, but plans to promote the barn as a wedding venue prove problematic.
Blight threatens other Ambridge schemes, putting life at Greenacres bachelor pad under pressure - and stretching Tom and Natasha’s business to the limit - while another attempt to elevate Shula to sainthood will fall on stony ground with many of us this side of the mighty Am.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/01/2020 08:53

Thanks, Asking! Kirsty's mother, eh? Hmm I hope she runs into Tom and lets him have it with both barrels.

MikeUniformMike · 12/01/2020 12:22

Thanks Asking. Nice of Kirsty's mother to drop in - didd she make it to Kirsty's (non)wedding?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/01/2020 16:48

I think we were told she was one of the people who went along to wherever it was the wedding breakfast was meant to be happening, but I am not sure.

If that had been done to my daughter I would have been very obviously present, either looking after her or letting my feelings be known at high volume. Her absence from the entire business was frankly extraordinary.

MikeUniformMike · 12/01/2020 17:08

I wonder who they'll have as an actor. Oh, Susan Twist. She was in Brookie. My money was on Alison Steadman.

SurpriseSparDay · 13/01/2020 11:09

Thanks!

IIRC at Kirsty’s previous attempt at a wedding her parents stayed with her at Lower Loxley in the run up to The Day.

SurpriseSparDay · 15/01/2020 17:08

Really hope Freddie won’t be involved in the poker troubles at GG.

But apart from Ghastly Gavin things are very dull at the moment.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/01/2020 12:39

BBC one-liners 19th - 24th January 2020

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 19th - 24th January
The main drama is set to take place away from the village as the day dawns for Jim, Alistair and Jazzer’s road trip. In an attempt to distract Jim from what he’s about to face, many jokes are made at Alistair’s expense. But can Jim put his past demons where they belong?
Back in Ambridge, the proposed changes at The Bull lead to vocal protests. Lilian digs her heels in but faces serious competition, while Jolene is torn in two.
And with Kirsty still struggling, a concerned Philip falls on his sword and makes a controversial suggestion to make her happy. But when Helen discovers what the pair are planning, she’s quick to offer Kirsty some tough love.
