Somebody previously silent winning would be marvellous.

Hannah will get Mianed House.

Motoko · 23/08/2019 12:04

The advantage of someone who's not anybody we know winning it, is that once it's over, we won't have to hear about it again, other than maybe the occasional reference, like the Gills buying Home Farmhouse.

If one of the Archers wins, it'll drag on and on, and on, and on....

Just imagine how tired Adam would be if he won, what with running the farm, new baby, and the soil academy. We'll never hear the end of it.

I have been sent today's
Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update Aug 25-30
Kate sets off on a date with Jakob. Their relationship, already a bit awkward, is not made any easier when Kate sets Jakob a secret test, and Jakob gets an insight into what Ambridge’s ageing wild child is up to.
While this unlikely - and somewhat desperate - romance gets off the ground, everything in Grundyland slides into a quagmire of trouble and woe.
Will is in a downward spiral and, when Ed struggles to set matters right, a ghastly secret is revealed.
The rather boring row between Pip and Ruth grinds on against the backdrop of Peggy’s divisive wheeze, while Ambridge’s livestock lets out a communal sigh of relief when the local abattoir closes down.

QuaterMiss · 24/08/2019 20:19

How can they have an abattoir story without the return of ... Maurice?

😍😍😍

Thanks anyway!

MikeUniformMike · 24/08/2019 20:23

More Maurice please!

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/08/2019 21:13

Yes! I love Maurice and his lugubrious wisdom Grin

PrincessFiorimonde · 27/08/2019 21:29

I'm just an occasional reader of these threads, but had to Grin at the apt description of the 'rather boring row between Pip and Ruth'.

QuaterMiss · 29/08/2019 09:28

Really hope the ghastly secret concerns Will and not some other member of the Grundy clan ...

Radio Times Ambridge Diary Sep 1-6
Pregnant Lexi is back, which is good news for Adam and Ian, who have been on tenterhooks. However, a night out for Ian’s birthday proves to be a little overwhelming for her. And when Roy makes a kind gesture later on in the week, Lexi finds herself in an uncomfortable position.
Emma continues to navigate her newly single life with an ever-attentive Tracy at her side, but things take a bizarre turn when Tracy makes a drastic decision that leaves her employers at Grey Gables baffled.
And Kate digs herself a hole - unintentionally awakening Peggy’s mischievous side.
Plus Jim and Jazzer continue to be the show’s best double act as the Prof gets some help following an anxiety attack.

KingscoteStaff · 29/08/2019 19:18

Keri’s back!

Motoko · 29/08/2019 19:36

Thanks Asking.

Is Tracy going to hold a seance at GG?

MikeUniformMike · 29/08/2019 19:58

Oh god. Behbeh.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 31/08/2019 16:33

I think you're right, MUM. This is the Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update Sep 1-6

Lexi waddles into view, carrying Ian and Adam’s hopes and dreams with her, but seems ill at ease. Could heartache be brewing under the Thatched roof of Honeysuckle Cottage?
The Brookfield lambs, having thought they’d got a reprieve when the local abattoir closed down, get a nasty shock when Ruth starts rounding them up - then Ruth finds she is also at the mercy of another. That’s dramatic irony for you!
Tracy, who’s having too much fun getting her reluctant sister back into single life, makes - even by Horrobin standards - a bizarre decision and, at the odd Greenacre ménage, Jazzer helps Jim to overcome his fear.

(All papers please copy: Tracy is not Emma's sister. She is Susan's sister, Emma's aunt.)

MikeUniformMike · 31/08/2019 19:59

Thanks Asking!

Tonnerre · 04/09/2019 14:13

More up in the Next On list:

8 Sept: There is tension at the Parish Council meeting and Freddie's confidence is knocked.
9: Jennifer finds herself out in the cold and Kirsty's new neighbour causes a stir.
10: Jim springs more than one surprise and Tracy comes to the rescue
11: Leonard hatches a plan, and Pip is not impressed.
12: David makes an enemy, and Elizabeth finds herself backed into a corner.
13: Will puts his foot down, and Kate's frustrations grow.
15: Ian puts his foot down and Lynda has a bone to pick.
16: Eddie makes a shocking confession and there's a worrying discovery for Brian.
17: Kate exacts her revenge, and Freddie has a hard day
18: Brian has bad news to impart, and Ed holds out an olive branch.
19: Freddie offers a solution, and Pip turns on the charm.
20: Justin unveils his latest scheme, and Lily admits the truth.

Lots of feet being put down.

Pip not being impressed: good. Pip turning on the charm: Yeccch.

I'm guessing Lily admitting the truth is her not returning to Manchester

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 04/09/2019 14:29

Thanks all!

If Lily transfers to Felpersham I won't be best pleased.

MikeUniformMike · 04/09/2019 17:06

Pip running off with CallMeRuss and never coming back would suit me right down to the ground.

QuaterMiss · 04/09/2019 20:00

For heaven’s sake - why are they so determined to deny Lily an education (unless, presumably, around the corner)?! It’s intensely annoying.

Thank you.

Disgruntled of Devon.

MikeUniformMike · 04/09/2019 20:04

There is not much point in getting an education if you are female as your chances of leaving Ambridge are almost non-existent.
Only Debbie and Brenda have managed it.

Tonnerre · 04/09/2019 23:20

And Alice.

Tonnerre · 04/09/2019 23:22

Oh, and Phoebe. Technically Pip's degree also counts as education, but given that we've seen no evidence that she's ever learnt to think logically I think we're entitled to discount that.

Tonnerre · 04/09/2019 23:23

Oh, sorry, just realised Mike's post was about chances of leaving Ambridge, not chances of getting an education. Ignore me.

MikeUniformMike · 05/09/2019 09:30

S'OK Tonnerre.
Debbie didn't get all that far education-wise. I think she was reading French at Exeter but dropped out in the 2nd year IIRC, and was followed home by her much older tutor Simon Gerrard.
Brenda went to Felpersham uni instead of Birmingham as she wanted to stay near her father, I think, and did very well, but got engaged to The Real Tom Archer and had a somewhat shortlived job in Leicester before being employed by Pusscat and Tiger. She escaped via AmEx.
Alice went to Southampton Uni then transferred to Felpersham and married Kristiffur. She is struggling career-wise and drinks a lot.
Kate did some course at Felpersham.
I think Ruth went to Harper Adams, then an agricultural college, and after setting her sights on the older Brookfield son, realised that David would take over the farm.
Pip went to Felpersham but apart from a brief milking contract in the dairy capital of the UK that is Maidenhead, has not gone away as much as I would like her to vanish
No other Ambridge women have been to uni although Kathy Perks was a teacher, and so was Jenny, I think.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/09/2019 09:42

There have been other women graduates in Ambridge, although very few hang around. Usha, Janet the vicar, Amy (Alan's daughter, midwife), Anisha the vet, Siobhan (translator, must have had languages degree), Carol Tregorran's daughter (Anna?). I agree, though, women get a particularly rough deal in Ambridge educationally.

I've never forgiven them for gratuitously making Lucy Perks fail her finals and emigrate to NZ to get married. It added absolutely nothing to any plot, so why do it? The we had Debbie dropping out of her course, Brenda leaving a radio journalism course in Bournemouth (not Brum) which built on her previous career to do a generic marketing course at Felpersham and then doing nothing graduate level with it, Alice also not using her qualifications to fullest extent, Kate getting into Felpersham to do a postgraduate course by brandishing nothing much more than a CSE in Entitlement Studies, Phoebe's Oxford PPE degree result not being mentioned and no career plans - it makes me fume.

Ghostontoast · 05/09/2019 09:54

TASWAMA!

....and you’re forgetting Shula doing her land agent exams and then just giving up because of a minor run-in with some shitty bloke character!
