Even if you don't have a leg(?), a life or a clue, Welcome to the first ever 85th Archers thread! Smile

Wild speculation and sensible questions always welcome - especially any newcomers.

A little game for the weekend, inspired by Timetogetup0630 and Gruach on the last thread:

Invent an explanation for how your username was the inspiration for an Archers storyline, character, etc - be creative!

My username is telling the story of Toby, Adam and Ian, although it probably needs some punctuation: Dad! Dad/Dad? Grin

dairyfarmerswife - bit too easy for you, but as professional country folk maybe you could judge the winner? Star

Credit to MrsGrindah for the clever thread title

Also in Guardian. June Spencer is 98 and says she'd like to still be Peggy at 100. Main thrust of article is "why credits for editor and SW, but none for actors?"

I don't think we can be friends orangina! I adore Freddie - and he's one of the very few teenage characters who actually sound alive. I find some characters I like because they're fundamentally nice people (Clarrie), and some I like because they always make an episode interesting even though they're not attractive people. (Susan Carter, for example).

Then there's nice characters who are boring or who I just don't like (Neil, perhaps), and unpleasant characters who don't actually add anything to the interest of the episode (the current Will, perhaps?)

I feel a 2x2 table coming on! Or maybe a 2-d scatter plot, so I can incorporate grades of boringness or nastiness.

BashStreetKid · 06/02/2018 11:41

Why does Pip do that thing of using someone's name every other sentence, with a little pause before and after every sodding time? "Look. Mum. It'll be fine, you'll all have a lovely time looking after my baby for me." "Come on. ToeBee. Having the baby will make no difference to my stellar farming career whatsoever." "I've got a great idea. Dad. Why not make Josh do all my work and abandon his own business?"

WoodenCat · 06/02/2018 12:05

Slightly behind but just popped in to say that I’m Auntie Carboard’s pet. You haven’t heard from me as I’m hiding from Hilda Ogden.

MrsArthurShappey · 06/02/2018 12:12

bash and sucking air through her teeth Angry

Minimammoth · 06/02/2018 14:17

Pip actress just can’t do hesitancy, or uncertainty, it always sound like a school play.

MikeUniformMike · 06/02/2018 14:38

David went to Cirencester and Ruth went to Harper Adams. Not sure where Tom went.

Terpsichore · 06/02/2018 14:39

Emerging from deepest darkest lurkdom to say I was rather Hmm at the Grauniad's photo in the print version today - they captioned a picture as being June Spencer with Judy Bennett - I’m not 100% certain, it might perhaps be Angela Piper with JB, but I very much doubt it's June Spencer.

If so, I guess someone will alert 'Corrections and Clarifications' but it’s a bit embarrassing given the story's about actors not being given proper acknowledgement....

Bekabeech · 06/02/2018 15:47

I am also someone who wants to save Freddie, he's being an idiot at present but that's quite normal for teens and at least he's vaguely interesting - unlike Lily who will have a breakdown over trying too hard to be good or something.
I thought Kirsty said "literature" so could be internet print outs.
The Dopey's are over involved in Pip's life, as evidenced by the Elizabeth situation. But also massively casual with both their sons. Did they even know when Ben was being bullied?

orangina · 06/02/2018 21:24

Re: Freddie, it's the way he sounds so entitled that bothers me. That and the fact that he is aspiring to be a drug dealer. Interestingly, I don't find Lily quite as annoying.

God I am middle aged and dull. Cats bum mouth over the drugs and all....

ADarkandStormyKnight · 06/02/2018 21:32

I can't bear Lily. I used to feel for her because Freddie will inherit because he has a penis and also seems to get more attention somehow. Like the time he got his own pony while Lily got to go on a school trip. But she comes over as very entitled and nosey these days.

orangina · 06/02/2018 21:45

Gruach, let's be friends and agree to differ Grin...

RubyLennoxExists · 06/02/2018 22:19

I like Freddy and I like Lily, and I like Toby.
But does anybody on this thread like Pip? Anyone? Grin

WineAndTiramisu · 06/02/2018 22:29

Facebook is showing me adverts for goats milk kefir... I've never typed those words before, it must know I listen to the archers!

Eastpoint · 06/02/2018 23:17

Nic is such a drip. Really annoying in today’s episode.

GnotherGnu · 06/02/2018 23:23

I really don't see what Emma has done that is so terrible. OK, she nicked someone else's idea, but only after she'd been told it was never going to happen at the Bull. And it's not as if the Mr and Mrs concept was new when Nic came up with the idea.

Eastpoint · 07/02/2018 08:15

Exactly. Do you like John Finnemore Gnother? Star

RockNRollNerd · 07/02/2018 09:34

I inspired The Roy at Loxfest storyline. If you know the song then apart from the 11 years at a motherfucking private school [sic] quite a lot of it fits Roy!

I will now hand round brain bleach and apologise for triggering everyone to recall Roy at Loxfest Blush

Dearosly · 07/02/2018 10:15

What happened at loxfest?!

BoreOfWhabylon · 07/02/2018 10:40

Roy and Elizabeth had a fling. In a tent.

It led to a short-lived affair, which did not end well. Everyone found out, but the Ambridge Amnesia Fairy has since waved her magic wand and all is well again.

SusanWalker · 07/02/2018 10:43

I think Will is upset with Emma not just because they're exes, but because he and Nic have been the successful ones with their own house and jobs. But now Emma is parish councillor and her and Ed are saving for their own house he doesn't like it.

MrsArthurShappey · 07/02/2018 10:45

Wasn't it some other festival that Roy and Elizabeth DTD? They were checking out the competition I think. Unless it happened again at Loxfest. If so, my brain has clearly bleached itself. Yay brain!!!

TheAntiBoop · 07/02/2018 10:48

I felt a little sorry for nic. She obviously views Emma as a friend but Emma doesn't see her the same

I know will comes across badly but he has every right to hate Emma and ed!

It's all just a bit stupid after we had the big unrealistic reconciliation and then they spit it right back

R4 · 07/02/2018 10:53

It's all just a bit stupid after we had the big unrealistic reconciliation and then they spit it right back

Oh, I disagree. I quite like the uneasy truce, it's realistic. It would have been stupid if we had had years of warring brothers and then they ended up best buddies.

TheAntiBoop · 07/02/2018 10:54

But that's what the stupid make up was. It should never have happened!!! Those boys are never going to be friends.
