Even if you don't have a leg(?), a life or a clue, Welcome to the first ever 85th Archers thread! Smile

Wild speculation and sensible questions always welcome - especially any newcomers.

A little game for the weekend, inspired by Timetogetup0630 and Gruach on the last thread:

Invent an explanation for how your username was the inspiration for an Archers storyline, character, etc - be creative!

My username is telling the story of Toby, Adam and Ian, although it probably needs some punctuation: Dad! Dad/Dad? Grin

dairyfarmerswife - bit too easy for you, but as professional country folk maybe you could judge the winner? Star

Credit to MrsGrindah for the clever thread title

Oh the drag is called 'Charlie' ?

Yes interesting question about Brighton maybe unhinged Tobe's ex hears about his impending fatherhood and turns up..

BertrandRussell · 13/02/2018 13:03

Sorry, no- I was unclear. The fox is sometimes called Charlie. They were saying that Charlie got away and they were picking up the drag again.

If the Archers camera hadn’t been on them they would have abandoned the drag and “accidentally” gone after the fox.........

ppeatfruit · 13/02/2018 13:07

I'll listen this arvo to check , I'm not doubting your veracity Bert , just my ears!

ppeatfruit · 13/02/2018 14:16

It was Philip who definitely said "Fox". Maybe he got it wrong.

BertrandRussell · 13/02/2018 14:21

No- there was a fox definitely. They waited til it had got away before they took up the drag scent away. That’s what a Hunt is supposed to do if they find a real fox while drag hunting.

Apologies for being late, but I had so many things to do.

I am of course the Ambridge Fairy - illness, financial worries, legal worries, shortness of surrogate mothers, no challenge too big or too small to be waved away with one swish of my wand.

Alleycat1 · 13/02/2018 14:36

Too late, Sara. The name competition is over. It was obviously fixed. I should have won as Matt even called Lillian pusscat fgs! Grin Bad loser, moi? 😁

DadDadDad · 13/02/2018 14:38

Sara - I'm afraid lines have closed for that competition (see DFW's judging 10 Feb 17:16).

This thread is great, a laugh a minute. Sarathefairy You would've been a good entrant. Never mind, another time. Grin

BikingBeatrix · 13/02/2018 15:45

I agree about Kirsty not being attracted toPhilip. It‘s odd considering the hunt. i‘m also surprised Kirsty is so young. I feel like she’s been in Ambridge for ages.

In the quiz l got 3, 4 and 9 wrong. So that was also the Lyndy one. I don’t remember him calling her anything but Lyndy.

The reason l‘m not sure that Toby will catch the baby is that would be a rerun of David catching Ben in the Brookfield kitchen. And a 3rd Baby arriving in a hurry is much more likely than a first. But the writing is so odd these days that anything is possible. I really hope there‘ll be no dramatic labour scene and we‘ll just hear 2 characters saying Did you hear?

BikingBeatrix · 13/02/2018 15:47

Sara, l don’t think you are new? I recognise your name. You have been busy in Ambridge of late. So many little miracles but why did you let Freda die?

BikingBeatrix · 13/02/2018 15:50

5 places left for conference. I was tempted but it‘s so far for me.

whyismykid · 13/02/2018 16:13

I think Phillip dumped the toxic barrels of poison at home farm in the olden days and Kirsty’s heart will be broken.

TheAntiBoop · 13/02/2018 16:30

That would be neat and tidy but a little too convenient that he suddenly appeared working in ambridge before the spill

BitOutOfPractice · 13/02/2018 16:36

Sorry I've only been dipping in and out lately - when and where is the conference? I had tickets last time but couldn't go and gave them away

DadDadDad · 13/02/2018 16:38

Oh, no, BOOP and AntiBoop have posted consecutively, the explosion could bring down the whole thread! Grin

rerun of David catching Ben in the Brookfield kitchen

The last recorded event where both were together before last week’s PT evening at school.

SaraTheFairy · 13/02/2018 17:01

I didn’t realise there was a closing date Sad. I skipped from P6 to the end, that’ll teach me.

Packs up wings and wand and ambles back to fairyland to read the missing 12 pages.

BitOutOfPractice · 13/02/2018 17:03

DaDadDad I think that merely proves the balance of the universe. The yin and the yang if you will Grin

dairyfarmerswife · 13/02/2018 17:12

I thought the lambing scene was well done and I liked the way Eddie was the skilled stockman, not the buffoon we often hear him as.

Didn't Philip first appear fixing the roof at the kennels soon after Shula took over as Master from Oliver- could be over a year ago now or have I got my timing muddled? Then over the summer he remodelled the Dower House bathroom for Lilian and Justin, on Shula's recommendation.

By the way, another did you know - Simon Williams' (Justin) first wife Belinda Carroll is now married to Michael Cochrane (Oliver).

birdsdestiny · 13/02/2018 17:21

I know the thread has moved on but how on earth is Will so financially comfortable. If those figures for his job are right that really is not enough for him to be wandering around boasting how rich he is.

Abra1de · 13/02/2018 17:23

Will owns his house, I believe. No mortgage?

Abra1de · 13/02/2018 17:23

Or rent.

Gruach · 13/02/2018 17:25

He inherited £200k (?) from a great aunt (who hadn't known Ed so left him nothing). Will bought No 1 The Green and lets it to Tom and Johnny at the moment.

birdsdestiny · 13/02/2018 17:49

Thanks that sort of explains it I guess. But if he spent the inheritance on a house then his actual income is still not enormous. He has his wage plus rent from Tom, no mortgage is obviously a bonus but they still have 4 children to support, it's not as if he's alan sugar is it.
