Discuss The Archers here, the long-running thread series started by PseudoBadger. Maybe my puns will tempt her back to take the reigns?

I think Sleeping Beauty references can wait until the next thread which will probably cover much of December.

Lurkers de-lurk! New to The Archers? you're welcome here; the friendly crowd will answer your questions.

But Lexi (interviewed last week, already working at GG, no issues over paperwork and admin,) was there too, stayed till the survivors' breakfast. That would imply it was GG.

ppeatfruit · 01/11/2017 10:38

Lexi could've been helping Ian. There were various 'rooms' for the roulette and horsey thing. (Nolli and Freddie were mucking about stoned in one of them) GG probably wouldn't have had the spare rooms what with their guests etc.

R4 · 01/11/2017 10:52

Because Ian did outside catering for his husband's cousin? Not so unusual, we have a cousin who is a highly qualified chef\restaurant manager and he often does it for family.

But Lizzie has her own catering team. Why oust/upset your own skilled chef and, more to the point, and get in the opposition? It doesn't signal confidence in your own staff, which is a poor message to give to the world.
GG would have spare conference/banqueting rooms.

ppeatfruit · 01/11/2017 11:10

Are they always there though? Oh i don't know, blame the director, editor, or SWs .it wasn't clear.

TopOfTheCliff · 01/11/2017 11:17

Sorry to butt in but I remembered Shula saying Alistair was working through GGs collection of single malts which confirms it was at GG and suggests he wasn't driving later unless he is a total fool.

R4 · 01/11/2017 11:21

it wasn't clear

You're telling me! I have to remind myself that it isn't RL and the SW occasionally do weird things for the sake of dramatic tension or some such get out clause. I'm not very good at drama, I'm always thinking "but why would you do that!?" TA is about the only modern drama that I can stand. I suppose Broadchurch was an honourable exception.

R4 · 01/11/2017 11:24

Butt in all you like, TotCSmile Thanks for clearing that up.

ppeatfruit · 01/11/2017 11:29

But I prefer to think of the TA as an 'everyday story of countryfolk' It's the only soap I follow, I hate the misery memoirs on TV. I'm not into much modern drama because I like escapism (there's enough RL murder and mayhem thanks ).

I'm a wimp. Grin

campion · 01/11/2017 11:34

It was at Grey Gables.
Someone said so last night except I can't remember who.

M'Lud.

R4 · 01/11/2017 11:35

I'm with you on the wimp front. These days the major dramas are on at 9 o'clock (so all the channels compete for the same viewer attention grr) and they all come with an obligatory " we're now past the watershed so we're going to show you something that you may find upsetting". I don't know why they think that is at all enticing.

ppeatfruit · 01/11/2017 11:44

Yes I soooo agree R4. DH in in the TV business and I have often asked him why the execs think that blood, gore violence and sex appeals to everyone. It's the race to the bottom in every walk of life, very depressing .

If they looked at the viewing figures they would find that it's not always the case anyway.

Thanks campion. Grin

R4 · 01/11/2017 11:52

Yes. Sunday is exempt from this rule and gets fantastic viewing figures for non-upsetting (or potentially upsetting but handled sensitively) programmes like Call the Midwife.

ppeatfruit · 01/11/2017 12:12

There was a meeting recently, I'm not sure if it was just at the beeb, where the drama dept. actually said what we've been saying (Wow they sometimes listen!!)
But a young exec said that she didn't think it was correct that all the dramas are DARK !!! . I thought "get your head out of the bag woman!" So there MIGHT be some lighter ones being made, but I don't hold out much hope!

ppeatfruit · 01/11/2017 12:14

I liked CTM but dh found it a bit upsetting. Grin It's being repeated now and you have to be in the right mood for it!

Swannykazoo · 01/11/2017 12:27

oooh-looking forward to listening again. When did Lexie come back? It would take more than Ikea to tempt me near Roy's affections

BertrandRussell · 01/11/2017 12:31

"he wasn't driving later unless he is a total fool."
This is Alasdair we're talking about..........

ppeatfruit · 01/11/2017 12:33

Last week, she came of her own accord. Roy didn't even know till he was roped in to interview the applicants. But she and Roy ARE an item. it's sweet IMO.

EBearhug · 01/11/2017 13:46

You don't have a scriptwriter running your life. Grin

PrincessFiorimonde · 01/11/2017 15:36

Thanks for the new thread, D3.

As for who mowed Matt down, clearly the finger of suspicion is going to be pointing wildly all over the place. But I'm with RockNRollNerd on the last thread, who predicted that ultimately it'll prove to be 'some boy racer (probably from Loxley Barratt or the new houses where the riff raff live) and none of the regular characters will go to prison'.

Swannykazoo · 01/11/2017 16:01

A scriptwriter would definitely have sorted my divorce by now or you'd all be turning off from "Swanny's Story, an everyday story of cuntry folk" in droves!

AuldHeathen · 01/11/2017 16:15

Did we all hear Roy mention polyester? I think it was when discussing curtains!

I am sure venue was GG. Lots of reasons why, and there was no mention afaik of LL except on the interweb.

Bekabeech · 01/11/2017 17:16

The Polyester was mentioned when discussing the fake lily, Lexi said the petals were silk, Roy said they were polyester.

Greymalkin · 01/11/2017 17:28

De-lurking ...

Just coming on to say "Hello, my name is Greymalkin and I am an Archers Addict"

Have been listening for about a year now, and I love it!! I tend to listen to the podcast the morning after the night before if that makes sense. How does everyone else tune in?

Bekabeech · 01/11/2017 17:31

Welcome Greymalkin - I usually listen when driving back from the morning school run (via a podcast).

R4 · 01/11/2017 17:43

Hello Greymalkin. I usually arrange to be cooking dinner at 7:02 and, ahem, the radio just happens to be on.
