Discuss The Archers here, the long-running thread series started by PseudoBadger. Maybe my puns will tempt her back to take the reigns?

I think Sleeping Beauty references can wait until the next thread which will probably cover much of December.

Lurkers de-lurk! New to The Archers? you're welcome here; the friendly crowd will answer your questions.

Yes and I just remembered Freddie and Noli sampling the woodland mushrooms, they haven't suffered any liver damage yet…….. Now that really could be serious…..but I'm sure successful liver transplants are easy to get in Amb. fairy land Grin Hmm

Greymalkin · 03/11/2017 16:40

Maybe it was Josh whizzing along in his new biologically-attached car? Or was someone joy riding in the stolen loader?

TeenTimesTwo · 03/11/2017 19:17

So it wasn't Adam.
Adam is worried that his fight on Wed with Matt will come out now, and that will scupper their chance of surrogacy.

MrsGrindah · 03/11/2017 19:24

Haven’t been on this thread for months so apologies if this has been done already but is anyone else cringing at Nolis accent?

Also has anyone else noticed how much the female actors stammer when in difficult situations eg fear, uncertainty, embarrassment etc. I know they can’t deploy facial expressions but they do it so much it’s really annoying....Pip, Helen and Lillian are the worst offenders

Bekabeech · 03/11/2017 20:55

Are you South African? Because Noli sounds similar to some of my SA friends.

TheAntiBoop · 03/11/2017 21:22

She doesn't sound authentic to me but I think she quite good. I think she needs to tone down the stereotypical bits though!

I'd be interested if anyone knows someone with a Durban accent!

MrsGrindah · 03/11/2017 21:25

I’m not South African but familiar with the accent through friends...it just sounds not even remotely SA to me but I’m prepared to be proved wrong if the actress is from SA

SingingAvocado · 03/11/2017 22:00

Mogali Masuku, who plays Noli, might be South African: inanything.com/emergingactors-uk-2017-roundtable-cast/
Her Spotlight page says she can speak: English, Shona, Xhosa, Zulu

Bekabeech · 03/11/2017 23:56

Most of the South Africans I know are from Cape Town, which is a lot softer. But those from Jo’burg do sound more like Noli and I kind of thought Durban was even more so? But then the Actor who plays her father uses an accent which immitat s his Zimbabwean parents. But again the Black Zimbabweans and Zambians I knew didn’t have that strong an accent...

TheAntiBoop · 04/11/2017 08:00

If she is SA then she may be over egging the accent on purpose. The way Brit actors become very cut glass on us tv (what's her name in Friends?)

ppeatfruit · 04/11/2017 09:10

Yes Teen and now there is the visual evidence of him hitting " the old man" (note to SW's of the hospital scene Grin ) Adam could indeed be in deep doodoos Grin

Even though Matt deserved it.

TeenTimesTwo · 04/11/2017 10:02

I was shocked when he was referred to as an "old man". I think of him as being about 60 (which is the age of my DH and therefore not old). But I see now he is 70, which is still not old from where I am sitting!

ppeatfruit · 04/11/2017 10:19

Well it is if you're recovering from an accident or a punch! Our bodies are not the same at 70 than when we were 21!!

cheminotte · 04/11/2017 10:32

Yes I thought it unlikely that Matt was in a coma one minute and getting all agitated about his suitcase the next.
Also, Harrison's little chat with Justin in the cafe - seriously??? I'm sure Justin could make a complaint about that!

Timetogetup0630 · 04/11/2017 12:42

Listening in an insomnia type coma last night and all I could hear was Ian whining on .......zzzzzz

C8H10N4O2 · 04/11/2017 12:49

all I could hear was Ian whining on .......zzzzzz

I'm glad it isn't just me. Ian only seems to appear atm when he is having a whine about something. I'm not sure if its just sloppy SW or if they are trying to portray someone falling into a slightly obsessive pattern as they try to have a family.

Imbroglio · 04/11/2017 12:57

Ian also offers to cook nice breakfasts and dinners. Adam could do a lot worse.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 04/11/2017 13:05

Ian is turning into a deluded , obsessed bore.

He was whining on about "the baby" last night. I'm sure Adam's reaction was the same as mine. I can't remember exactly what Adam said- think it was no more than "The baby ?"

But it conveyed so much more- that these tentative discussions with a potential surrogate who might or might not agree and who might or might not get pregnant and might or might not carry to term has already in Ian's mind turned into THE BABY. Clever writing and clever acting.

I blame Helen- interfering witch- for pushing Ian away from adopting.

Imbroglio · 04/11/2017 13:09

I think if they want to be successful they need to be obsessed completely dedicated.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 04/11/2017 13:09

It was fair in the context. Roy and Lexie are 30ish/early 40s? Adam is roughly their age group but Matt is old enough to be their father. It would be shocking to have seen it.

I hope this does not end badly for Roy and Lexie. I am fond of them.

Timetogetup0630 · 04/11/2017 13:15

Lass Adam is 50 isn't he ?

TeenTimesTwo · 04/11/2017 13:17

I agree it was fair in the context. But it still shocked me.
tbf I have trouble thinking of my DPs as 'old' and they are in their 80s.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 04/11/2017 13:18

Yes - so if you are Roy and Lexie's age basically the same age group but Matt is the generation ahead of you.

I said in the last thread that punch up was a plot device to be caught on CCTV. !

C8H10N4O2 · 04/11/2017 13:22

I blame Helen- interfering witch- for pushing Ian away from adopting

I don't agree - Ian is an intelligent (if deluded) adult able to take responsibility for his own decisions.
If one conversation with Helen was enough to convert him from an adopter to wanting a surrogate he was never committed to adopting anyway. Its really not fair to blame Helen for this, its been an ongoing issue between Ian/Adam for years.

BertrandRussell · 04/11/2017 13:43

"I blame Helen- interfering witch- for pushing Ian away from adopting"

If Ian's feeble enough to have his mind changed by one passing conversation, then the chances of them having been accepted as adoptive parents plummet from 5% to zero.
