Here’s my 2p worth.

I think Matt was driving. He’s on the phone to Lillian’s voicemail saying he’s coming to get her and then says something about dip your headlights or something. You’d only say that if driving, you’d turn away if walking. I think he was in a car driving and Adam hit him and Matts car went off the road. Adam left the scene.

It might be fun to have some discussion of what cars we think various characters drive. Especially if we have nothing else to discuss. e.g. l could imagine lan driving a Datsun type car, but Adam would want a sleek expensive vehicle. The relevance to the current story is what? That they used lan’s car to go to the ball because he was working, so not drinking, and wanted to get himself home after work. So it wasn’t Adam that hurt Matt. Yes, l know we’ve already said that!

Are we totally clear the venue for the ball was GG and not LL? That explains lan doing the food, and Lexi being there too.

Ah, right, sorry, if it was Matt driving and saying "dip your lights" do we think he did a bit of drunken twocking to amuse himself whilst waiting for his taxi?

Matt was definitely not driving (remember he was waiting for a taxi). I've just listened, and his feet are on a hard surface, he's outside talking to Lilian, then shouts "dip your lights" and there's no sound of two cars colliding, just a thump.

I didn't think the muffled cry Matt gave quite fitted with being hit hard by a car, but then I've never heard someone being hit by a car - or maybe they wanted to avoid a Nigel-like scream!

It seemed fairly obvious to me that it was Justin driving back to the Ball who hit Matt, but clearly you have other theories too...

I thought the venue was LL? Hence puzzled why Ian was cooking.

Oh BTW, DH tells me the sound of breathing/sighing l heard last night after the car door was slammed wasn’t that - so it must be my tinnitus. l didn’t hear any water sounds on either listen. Did anyone else apart from ppeat?

I just LA. Matt definitely on foot, on a hard surface, and telling driver to dip his lights. No indication of how long after Justin leaving the pub the accident happened. However I did get the impression it was a while after Nic knocked off for the night so I think we can rule her out as a suspect.

Yay, that makes DH wrong - and HOH. I’ve been telling him for ages he’s missing sounds. But he believes deafness is just an affliction of wives or something.

I now think it was Justin doing the sighing and breathing. There should be some interesting fallout if Lilian knows one romeo is responsible for the deading of the other.

I heard water - before and after - but thought that it was soft rain. Helps PC Plot with tyre prints?

Is this not potentially the denouement of the on/off 'speed watch' storyline. A few months back there were lots of clunky 'woah he was going a bit fast' comments, then we had speed watch. It seemed a bit ott just to kill off whichever one of Bill & Ben was still alive and introduce Hilda Ogden.

I predict a good few weeks of 'was it Adam? was it Matt? was it Nic?' partly to toy with the listeners and partly to give some other storylines more twists (including giving Will a reason to stop Nic working - I still think he as odd controlling tendencies about her place in the relationship) and then we'll get a deus ex auto machina and it will be some boy racer (probably from Loxley Barratt or the new houses where the riff raff live) and none of the regular characters will go to prison.

Well, there was certainly a bang last night! I was musing over Huge Canoe receiving a list of ‘tricks’ from Soc. Now the listeners don’t like a week of episodes for one day’s action so only do it ounce, preferably when you are leaving. And do make sure you go out with a bang, and HC has taken it literally.

I think the confusion over Grey Gables & Lower Loxley stems from there being fuss over two events at the moment.

Hunt Ball = Grey Gables (which is owned by the previous MFH)
Lilian & Justin’s Wedding = Lower Loxley (Elizabeth relation of Lilian)

Could it have been James? I think him and Leonie are visiting Linda.
And I was also pleased that the weather seemed to match the rest of the country for once.

Are you supposed to dip your headlights when approaching a pedestrian? I dip mine when approaching another vehicle, obviously, but I'm not sure about pedestrians. If I was walking along a road at night, I'm not sure if it would bother me if a car had full beams, I just wouldn't look straight at them.

Could have been anyone except that most people would have stopped,helped,rung 999 etc. So that leaves only those with an axe to grind re Matt.

That's quite a long list though!

Plus anyone driving home after the Hunt Ball who was panicking that if they were breathalysed, they'd lose their licence.
