1880's cottage Clifton in Bristol, horrific interior, would you bid on it?

Outside is so cute and I love the area!

How much do you reckon to fix it up?

Would you get involved with it?

At least 200k to do it up! Sorry, forgot to look - is it listed or conservation area?

AriettyHomily · 02/11/2020 15:21

No way, it looks like an absolute money pit. Assume it's listed too?

It's literally falling down.

serialreturner · 02/11/2020 15:22

Jesus no. Waaaaaayyyy too big a project for me.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 02/11/2020 15:23

Am in Bristol and really difficult to get builders at the moment, so would factor availability of the all the trades you need in.

Prufrocks · 02/11/2020 15:23

That road looks quite major which would make it an outright no for me regardless of the dilapidation.

Yesyoudoknowme · 02/11/2020 15:25

And it's not in Clifton (which is posh) but Cliftonwood (which is not but tries to hook onto the name). Anyone who would pay quarter of a million quid for a derelict property with no parking - even in Bristol - needs their head testing.

Mintjulia · 02/11/2020 15:25

It'll need rewiring, replastering, probably replumbing. Is the roof sound? I can see damp, so probably repointing too. New kitchen, bathroom, ceilings, all new windows, new heating.

Do you have £150k for renovations? Are you, your dad, your dh a qualified builder?

But yes, it is cute Smile

Fourfurrymonsters · 02/11/2020 15:28

I’m a seasoned renovator but that would have even me running for the hills tbh.

ChocoTrio · 02/11/2020 15:30

Omg that’s awful inside. Absolutely awful.

I see what you mean about the outside looking nice. But you know the saying “don’t judge a book by its cover”...

I agree this will be a money pit. How did it get so bad!!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 02/11/2020 15:33

That's one for professional builders only. So sad to see a lovely property left to rot like that.

JoJoSM2 · 02/11/2020 15:35

So dilapidated that it doesn’t look mortgageable. Have you got the cash to buy and spend £££ on renovations?

Personally, I’d find just too hemmed in.

clary · 02/11/2020 15:35

JW road (yy NOT in Clifton) is a really busy road. I used to cycle up and down it every day. No parking. Tiny. Money pit. That's a no from me Op.

WonkyStripes · 02/11/2020 15:36

When you come out the front door, you walk up a hill for 2 mins and you're right slap bang in the middle of the city centre. I'm not going to go for it but I'm going to watch the live auction on the day with interest.

MeringueCloud · 02/11/2020 15:37

It's a bit dated.

Clymene · 02/11/2020 15:37

I wouldn't buy that house even if had been done up. That road is really busy, it's a steep hill and there is no parking and no outside space.

I know! I completely agree on your last point, how did it get so bad?
OP posts:
WonkyStripes · 02/11/2020 15:38

Apparently there is a garden at the back, Clymene, but yes, no parking.

SlopesOff · 02/11/2020 15:39

That poor house looks so sad. It needs restoring.

No I wouldn't bid on it. I have taken on some challenges, never one that bad, and it would be beautiful if restored, but the location and potential problems with the adjacent properties make it a no.

Onekidnoclue · 02/11/2020 15:40

It’s a bad road with no parking and due to aspect any garden will be really dark. Sorry OP. I’d take it if someone gave it to me but not tempted otherwise!

WonkyStripes · 02/11/2020 15:42

HAHAHAHA
rorosemary · 02/11/2020 15:43

It's more of a project for a developer who can later sell it with a nice profit. It's not the kind of project for "normal" people who want to buy somewhere to live within a reasonable amount of time.
