1880's cottage Clifton in Bristol, horrific interior, would you bid on it?

Outside is so cute and I love the area!

How much do you reckon to fix it up?

Would you get involved with it?

No I wouldn't. It's got no off or on street parking. It's close to a school. It's in Student-land. Too close to bars and pubs. Its not Clifton its Cliftonwood/Hotwells.

But if you end up watching the auction let us know how much it sells for.

DishingOutDone · 02/11/2020 15:45

I imagine the neighbours must be worried about the state of it - their houses are the only things holding it up!!

NeverAMillionMilesAway · 02/11/2020 15:45

If I was a builder, and also had some plumbing, electrician etc skills, I would.
But no way. It needs extensive and expensive work. The bathroom, kitchen etc need gutting, for a start.

SherryPalmer · 02/11/2020 15:46

Nope, it’s tiny and sandwiched. between two roads.

Beetlewing · 02/11/2020 15:46

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole and my current house is a converted church! sorry

WonkyStripes · 02/11/2020 15:47

The lack of parking is no problem to me, I walk all over Bristol. I don't have a car and don't want one. But when it comes to selling it, forget it.

Hahaha. I had the exact same thought. Grin

I like how the photographer has made sure to turn the lights on to make the photos more appealing 😂

Bluntness100 · 02/11/2020 15:50

That’s a job for an experienced professional. No lay person with half a brain would touch it,

tenlittlecygnets · 02/11/2020 15:50

It needs a little work...

Seriously, I wasn't expecting it to be so awful. It needs everything doing. Huge huge project. And how easy will it be to get builders in, exspecially with Covid?? Too much for me. Poor unloved house.

Noideawottodo · 02/11/2020 15:51

No! Look at it! It's got subsidence and it's collapsing.

Mistymonday · 02/11/2020 15:54

All they need to do is declutter a bit, maybe remove the mouldy mattress. If they could make the room function a bit clearer by marketing it as an office, all the rage in covid times, rather than as a former crack den. Then all it needs is a pop of colour, maybe some naice cushions and a couple of hanging baskets outside. Grey carpets might make it look less dated.

Seriously, no, that is a huge amount of work. But if you have skills/capital then it could be very sweet.

Emmapeeler2 · 02/11/2020 15:56

No way. I thought you meant it was in Clifton village. Even then, No.

RaspAsYouChokeOnTheToupee · 02/11/2020 15:58

The outside photo might look pretty but even that one looks like it has structural problems.

WonkyStripes · 02/11/2020 15:59

I'll update the thread on 18th November with what it sold for. (IF it sells, which I doubt).

@Yesyoudoknowme

And it's not in Clifton (which is posh) but Cliftonwood (which is not but tries to hook onto the name). Anyone who would pay quarter of a million quid for a derelict property with no parking - even in Bristol - needs their head testing.
Agree. It’s not really Clifton, certainly not the naive part.
Purpler5 · 02/11/2020 16:00

*naice

Oliversmumsarmy · 02/11/2020 16:00

I have seen worse. But that one did at least have somewhere to put a skip and park a van.
Similar price too

Oliversmumsarmy · 02/11/2020 16:00

And was detached

WonkyStripes · 02/11/2020 16:04

I love the main room/lounge on pic 2 of this one:

That one's in Hotwells. But on a main road again with lorries constantly rattling by.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 02/11/2020 16:05

I used to live on JWR, agree with other posters that it is really busy. The hill isn't that bad though. It looks in terrible condition, far beyond updating , looks like it needs serious structural work. I wouldn't buy it.

Clifton isn't that posh, it just thinks it is Grin.

Very good point. Where the hell would the skip go?

I’ve watched enough homes under the hammer to think that needs a professional developer.

notalwaysalondoner · 02/11/2020 16:08

Oh my god I’d run a mile unless:
You have significant experience in property development including renovating buildings in a similar state of disrepair
You also have a spare few hundred thousand in the bank to spend on this
You also only have a very part time job to allow you to project manage this
You also have a great set of builders and other suppliers on hand that you’ve worked with before, that you trust and know you can rely on
You also are prepared for it to all go tits up and suck years of your life and savings into it

Wouldn’t touch it with a bargepole unless all of the above are true - this one definitely calls for the professionals.

Time40 · 02/11/2020 16:09

Oooh, that could be such a sweet little cottage. I want to rescue it!
