1880's cottage Clifton in Bristol, horrific interior, would you bid on it?

Outside is so cute and I love the area!

How much do you reckon to fix it up?

Would you get involved with it?

The downstairs looks fine - get a skip then you have a blank canvas. The bit that looks concerning is the upstairs where you can see the roof on either side of the dormer windows.

@Time40

Oooh, that could be such a sweet little cottage. I want to rescue it!
Ditto!

Oh my god I LOVE it, it couldn’t be any cuter! Looks like a set from Harry Potter.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 02/11/2020 16:14

No.

MrsJBaptiste · 02/11/2020 16:14

Shit, I was expecting some dodgy décor not a full renovation project!

It’s a no from me Shock

Chumleymouse · 02/11/2020 16:14

Once it’s gutted back to the bare brick ( stone ) and you can see it’s bare bones it will look a lot better ,

200k for renovations 😂. I doubt that.

YoniAndGuy · 02/11/2020 16:15

It's just tiny. And not in Clifton, and on a main road, and no parking...

It's the kind of thing people get sucked into because the actual building is quirky, unusual and old but you'd probably look at the end result and be sorry you spent so much.

It's so tiny that you probably could spend a lot less than folk are suggesting, but it's still just not worth it in that location!

And auction. Someone will bid silly money. So - no.

2bazookas · 02/11/2020 16:15

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

Zero parking, yellow lines front and back

The adjacent house with a slate roof is a total ruin round the back; looks abandoned which makes it an unending source of future damp walls, dry rot and infestation problems.

The red tile roofs and valleys shared with the house on the other side, are another potential conflict of interest, disputes over maintenance etc (and quite possibly, why the roof has leaked so badly.

No wonder the chimneys are collapsing

Lurkingforawhile · 02/11/2020 16:15

I love the “house for modernisation” instead of “house basically falling down”! Those ceilings look awful

PickAChew · 02/11/2020 16:16

No way. Even for a professional developer access for doing the building work is going to be an issue.

Cyw2018 · 02/11/2020 16:16

Is it listed or in a conservation area?

What would be the logistics of getting all the materials and trades there with no parking?

Old houses always throw up unsuspected problems, although you would suspect most problems with that one, so would have a slight advantage!!

tectonicplates · 02/11/2020 16:17

I can see some really rich person buying it on a whim, intending to get the work done but then never quite getting round to it, and selling it on again in a few years' time in an even worse state.

KisstheTeapot14 · 02/11/2020 16:17

Step. slowly. away.

Must have been a drugs den - state of that mattress.

So sad to see old beautiful houses get to this state.

It's a professional job and a skip load of money to sort that out as pp have said quite rightly.

Stuff of nightmares for me. I hate even a small DIY job :)

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 02/11/2020 16:17

Nothing a lick of paint wouldn't sort out, and it appears to include the white goods (although they're more of a brown) which is a big bonus.

480Widdio · 02/11/2020 16:18

I love that flat OP.

Cauterize · 02/11/2020 16:18

250k seems rather unrealistic given the walls and ceilings are caving in!

That aside I really don't like it. It looks very depressing

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 02/11/2020 16:19

Oh it’s adorable but, no. This is the kind of place someone on HUTH buys without seeing it inside or reading the legal pack isn’t it?

Yus, very small. 820 square feet total. ''We understand there is scope to convert the attic space to provide further accommodation.''

It’ll look a lot less daunting once it’s stripped back to its bare bones. Money pit though and no parking.

Oliversmumsarmy · 02/11/2020 16:22

Can you imagine trying to get workman. Parking 1/2 mile away then trundling their tools and equipment back and forth to the van. If they forgot a screwdriver it would be a 40 minute round trip back to the van.

It is a beautiful building and could be an amazing place but getting it to realise its potential is probably left to someone who actually knows what they are doing and isn’t reliant on too many trades.

Looks like the curtains are included too.

Whatamesssss · 02/11/2020 16:23

No way. Money pit steer well clear.

Look at the bird's eye view. The garden is a jungle, it's grown over half of the roof.

OscarRIP · 02/11/2020 16:23

All it needs is a new roof, ceilings, walls, floors, electricals, plumbing and windows. What's not to like? But, nooooooo!

TheySeeHerRowling · 02/11/2020 16:25

I lived in the house next door (on the left, blue door) as a student in the 1980s

Judging by the state of it, the landlord was the same guy Grin

I'd say no, though JWRoad had its good points - very easy walking distance to everywhere - but it was a low-lying, traffic-heavy and rather gloomy street I was glad to move away

Looks very gloomy on that stretch of the road, what is the massive brick wall opposite the front?
