1880's cottage Clifton in Bristol, horrific interior, would you bid on it?

Outside is so cute and I love the area!

How much do you reckon to fix it up?

Would you get involved with it?

@MeringueCloud

It's a bit dated.

If I had all the spare money it’s the sort of pit I would find myself trying to save 😂

babybunny123 · 02/11/2020 16:28

Sorry no, it isn't even attractive from the outside.

@TheySeeHerRowling

I lived in the house next door (on the left, blue door) as a student in the 1980s

Judging by the state of it, the landlord was the same guy Grin

I'd say no, though JWRoad had its good points - very easy walking distance to everywhere - but it was a low-lying, traffic-heavy and rather gloomy street I was glad to move away

@TheySeeHerRowling Okay, now we need to know more! Do you recall if anyone lived in that property next door at the time? It looks as if nobody's lived there for years. I was actually wondering if someone inherited the property and didn't know what to do with it.

@FlumpetCrumpet

I like how the photographer has made sure to turn the lights on to make the photos more appealing 😂
Couldn't be bothered to put the loo seat down though. That'll definitely put people off....

It shows the electric works! Although I would literally be holding my breath lest something fell on me or exploded.
Lovemusic33 · 02/11/2020 16:34

Wouldn’t touch it with a barge poll, even if it was half that price, it’s going to cost you almost the price of the cottage to fix up and I’m guessing you would uncover lots more work that needs doing.

Ooh, fascinating. I love this thread. :)

Nope. It needs to much attention.

madcatladyforever · 02/11/2020 16:36

No I've done a full refurb before and I am never doing one again.

fruitbrewhaha · 02/11/2020 16:37

You wont be able to get a mortgage.

GreyishDays · 02/11/2020 16:39

I dunno. It looks a bit like ours looked after we’d pulled all the 80s shit off it. I don’t think it’s much more of a big job for being SO bad of you see what I mean.
I’d worry about the road and location more than the work needed.

TheySeeHerRowling · 02/11/2020 16:39

tectonicplates I couldn't recall for certain, but I'm about 90% sure nobody lived there at the time If they did they were very quiet about it!

museumum · 02/11/2020 16:40

It's lovely but it's one for the professionals. definitely.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 02/11/2020 16:41

It's a beautiful house - if I had sufficient money to get in a proper firm of builders who specialised in restoring old buildings then yes if only to protect it from the sort of people who'll rip out the original features and fit UPVC windows .

But that is going to need a LOT of money put into it, not least because it looks like there's been water come through at least one of those ceilings. And you're going to have to pay for the therapy of anyone who sees that brick kitchen island up close

PlanDeRaccordement · 02/11/2020 16:42

I think they need to drop a zero off the starting auction price. £200,000 for that?

willitbetonight · 02/11/2020 16:42

Not Clifton. Horrible bus fumey hill. Would prob rent for £1500 a month done though. I wouldn't want to live there.

TheySeeHerRowling · 02/11/2020 16:43

Whatamesssss, the brick wall is the boundary of a private school across the road The tall buildings and many high walls make the street really dark and grim on that stretch

DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/11/2020 16:43

Looks a bit damp.

How does somewhere get into this state? Looks so unloved. I bet it was a lovely home once.

WonkyStripes · 02/11/2020 16:43

Oh the red brick is a kitchen island. 😂

timetest · 02/11/2020 16:44

It’s got the potential to be gorgeous but the busy road and lack of parking would put me off. The buyer would have to have very deep pockets.

I know. Funny thing is there are flats in (sort of) the same area that are really nice for the same price bracket.

I'm dying to see what it sells for in 2+ weeks.
