Hello hello who’s sitting KCS 7+ this week? Wonder how many are sitting this year…

Its very quiet this year on mumsnet 🙈
we just dropped our DS for KCJS 8+ and it seemed like max 70 kids unless there are multiple entrances !

LouS84 · 10/10/2025 08:43

That’s interesting @Mum987654- are there normally more than that or is 70 about normal? Hope it goes really well for your DS!

SWLondonMum00 · 10/10/2025 10:30

Agreed - very quiet this year on MN which is quite unusual as last year there was a very lively thread covering the 7+ exams across a number of schools.

DS will be sitting for his 7+ tomorrow - not sure how many but there are groups of 15 each and I know some that are in Group 16 and even 18. So no shortage for the 54 seats they have.

Finding it quite hard to relax and focus on anything personally, but will be keeping it very light in the evening today rather than any last minute cramming. He knows what he knows now, and its all down to how he performs on the day in real exam conditions.

Mum987654 · 10/10/2025 14:37

@LouS84 I expected more but not sure if I’m right and maybe 70 normal

@SWLondonMum00 best of luck! i know, its hard to relax! Very glad we are done with it 😅 (for now!)

LouS84 · 11/10/2025 13:07

@Mum987654 how did yesterday go? I hope your DC is feeling happy with how it went.

@SWLondonMum00 best of luck for your DC for today!

My DD will be doing a 7+ assessment a little later in the year so we are still building up towards that point.

Mum987654 · 11/10/2025 14:58

@LouS84 he came out very happy but says he ran out of time and didnt finish maths so not sure :/ also found the listening bit tough.

good luck to your DD!!

Lewisbelly · 11/10/2025 17:41

same here boy came out very happy, he said no story writing for English… I hope he did not miss a page

Feedback from DS was very scant. He did say that the paper was tougher than what we’d practiced but was quite nonchalant when he came out so not sure what to make of it.

English - there was no creative writing / story which threw everyone off a little as we (and I know other parents) who spent a lot of time preparing this. There were some existing sentences that they were asked to rewrite to make them more exciting. There were a couple of other smaller passages to write but no big story. Seems he did OK in these.

Maths - was quite long and he found it hard to finish. Same format as last year, split into 3 sections with the teachers moving you on after each section so no chance to go back. I don’t think he completed all the sections here and reckoned the questions were quite tough. Most worried about this.

Reasoning - doesn’t look like there was a NVR this year, and only focus was on the VR.

So a mixed bag across the board - everyone we spoke to after the exam seemed to indicate that they weren’t able to finish all the sections.

@SWLondonMum00 Your son is impressive that’s he’s able to share so much details!! It’s more reassuring to know there’s indeed no story writing… Let’s hope for the best!!! Good luck!!!

Did anyone here sit the 9+? It seems to be the same pattern, English no story but writing in three parts and reasoning was extremely challenging!

Lewisbelly · 12/10/2025 15:40

@swlondonmummy00 looks like quite many sitting the 9+?

OP posts:
swlondonmummy00 · 12/10/2025 16:29

I estimated around 80

Took the whole day of casually getting more and more details out of him as it was just the standard one line answers straight as he came out. Not much we can do now but wait for the outcome, which is supposed to be next week and on the same day as the WUS exam.

Need to switch gears and focus on that as their format is different to KCJS and they do the assessment in stages rather than all the written parts in one go.

swlondonmummy00 · 12/10/2025 19:43

The website says results from first round mid October, are we looking at Wednesday?

WUS probably more competitive this year with co-ed…

The note on assessment day stated ‘by Friday Oct 17’….

It’s an intake of 60 this year isn’t it. I presume
split equally between boys and girls - so 30 each which is a small uptick from the usual intake of 22 boys only.

fourthtimenow · 12/10/2025 23:10

DS also sat Kings 7+ and similar feedback. He found VR hardest..!

fourthtimenow · 12/10/2025 23:16

I think it’s going to be a tougher year for us, even with the slight uptick, because their co-ed proposition have become so popular and there’s no 8+ intake at WUS any longer. All the families who’d usually aim for 8+ are now sitting 7+, so it’s bound to feel more competitive…? It’s a total aspiration option for us anyway and we would be grateful with any of the other schools DS is sitting.

Yes, we've thought along the same lines. Some parents that would have deferred to the next year to allow the kids to mature are now forced into the 7+ cycle - so the competition will be more intense.

Your son’s recollection is impressive! I haven’t managed to get much from my son. Although he did say he didn’t have to write a story which I was a bit worried about - thought he may have missed something. So seeing your post makes me feel a lot calmer!

Just got an email saying that we will hear by end of this week…. I was hopeful it would be tomorrow but looks like it may be longer

Yep - got the same email. Fingers crossed for everyone.

Mum987654 · 16/10/2025 05:48

i guess probably end of week for us too.

SWLondonMum00 · 16/10/2025 10:14

Does anyone have an idea of what time these emails drop?
