Hello hello who’s sitting KCS 7+ this week? Wonder how many are sitting this year…

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
airgument · 14/11/2025 13:33

and thanks all for the answers on how many taken the WUS and size of the admission class. Good luck to all waiting for answers and congrats to all kids who give it their best shot!

W11Parent · 14/11/2025 13:35

That is my understanding too @airgument

W11Parent · 14/11/2025 13:41

Would assume this rings true for almost anyone registered for both… if you get WU, you probably don’t bother sitting LU… clever registration fee timing for LU to collect an insurance fee of sorts

more interesting q might be: what % of those who get King’s and/or WU will sit SPJ? 🤪😬

W11Parent · 14/11/2025 16:54

King’s is out….

heliomum · 14/11/2025 18:05

We got an offer but will pass as its to far from where we live

magdaa · 14/11/2025 19:44

Congratulations heliomum.
We’re on the reserve list and I don’t know what to think about this - such uncertainty for another 2.5months..

Does anyone have an idea of how many places are available for St. Paul’s at 7+?

72

Although each class does have 20 seats (x4 classes), 72 is also what I have heard

Crazymum23 · 16/11/2025 06:55

On the website it says 50+ for 7+ and additional for 8+ for this year. From next year it will be 72 for 7+ as there will be no 8+.

RosesAndHellebores · 16/11/2025 07:17

This all sounds horrendous. DS is 31. KCJS was a local school, we missed the 7+, nearly missed the 8+ but John Evans' secretary let me submit the application late.

The exam used to be in January. I got DS to do a practice paper over the holiday. We just dropped him off and collected him. He came out happy. They finished early and he said it was great because the head got out a pile of board games and just watched from the back.

He did have an interview after, with Dylan, who I think is still there, but they just talked about cricket.

In those days we got a proper letter with a handwritten note from the head.

If he hadn't got in we'd have sent him to Ibstock or St Johns. We only applied to put down a marker and get an idea of how he was likely to do.

It was a fab school and he has such close friends from it but reading this thread, all I can think is your poor, poor boys. Such awful intensity for seven year olds.

It’s 72 now from September 2026, confirmed by a deputy head. Their new junior school is opening from January so they have 4 classes of 18 each

Msw222 · 16/11/2025 16:24

Does St Paul’s have creative writing in either written or group activities/interview?

I believe they do at the interview stage

airgument · 17/11/2025 10:08

Here goes a silly question as distraction as many of us wait for the WUS email. Which school is harder to get in historically wus, kc or sp? It is about the right school for kids (i strongly believe that as it is not just about getting in but sticking in there happily) but just curious the historical context as I never studied in the UK.

Good question… According to DS’s pre-prep head and our tutor, WUS is the toughest of the lot. They said the catchment is wider, the school is more academic, and more and more parents of boys and girls prefer co-ed, so for most families sitting WUS it ends up being the first choice. I’ve also heard they put more weight on natural ability – things like reasoning, previous CAT4 scores, references what they say at interviews – more than some of the other schools, so sometimes you see boys getting in who aren’t mature, have messy handwriting or not amazing exam performance, but they’ve maxed out their CAT4 on all modules. So maybe it’s a bit less predictable for parents? I guess a smaller intake usually means tighter competition too. WUS only offers around 30 places, while SPJ has 70+ and King’s 50+, so of course it’s going to feel harder to get into. But honestly, we’d be thrilled with ANY of them…!

Mummyrobot · 17/11/2025 15:44

Big congratulations! Unfortunately, my daughter didn’t get in, but my son will be taking the 7+ exams next year. Would you mind sending me a DM with the details of the tutors and weekend classes you used? Thank you!!
