So nervous for primary school offer!

Just wanting to feel less alone, I am losing sleep with worry about the primary school my DD will get a place at! We live 0.9 miles from our first choice school however they always have 2/3x the applicants than they offer places so I'm so worried we will just miss out by not living next door 😫

We've had an email to say emails will be coming out Monday afternoon and nothing will be put on the online portal until all the emails had been sent. Boo!

Oh no that's annoying! Would you mind saying which LA that is?

Charmatt · 16/04/2023 02:14

Schools received their final allocations on Friday. Based on our predictions and analysis of our own data, we were correct in predicting which of tge schools in our MAT would have a waiting list. Good luck to everyone.

I'm in central Hertfordshire. Not sure what the actual LA name is

Its getting closer!! I am so so anxious I feel sick!!!! So much rides on getting this place 😫

Its such a 50/50 chance too!! I know children on our street who go there and I know children on the street who didn't get in! Let's hope it's a lower birth year 😫

Apparently, a catchment that a school accepts can change every year. I never knew that! My daughter will be 2024 but I get the anxiety.

BEE08 · 16/04/2023 08:17

Can I join too, I’m Im hoping we get the school that is on the same site I work on as it will be a lot easier, but I know I am just on the outskirts of the catchment area. So I’m not sure I will get the school of my choice.

MyopicBunny · 16/04/2023 08:27

Isn't there a subscription service that can tell you exactly which areas a school accepted children from year on year? I forget what it's called - anyone know?

ivfbabymomma1 · 16/04/2023 08:32

We got our email this morning!! (Blackpool)

horridjobescapee · 16/04/2023 08:34

I'm long past this stage but I just wanted to wish you all the very best of luck.

elliesmummy19 · 16/04/2023 08:37

Oh I’m quite nervous this morning! My husband woke me up this morning to tell me that he’d checked the website to see if they’ve accidentally put them out early 😂 Not even sure why I’m nervous! We’ve applied for schools in the catchment area and they’re all decent schools. The closest school doesn’t have a good reputation so we haven’t applied for that one.

I didn’t think I would be this nervous! Not long to wait now!

@MyopicBunny I think it's this one you are thinking of:

I feel sick with nerves. It's all I can think about today, which is exhausting 😩.

I can't find any information on the time ours will be released

I'm just going to throw a curveball in there re ofsted. It's not the be all and end all of schools. Outstanding schools might not be the best one for your child, and one requiring improvement may be brilliant. It's such a ridiculous process that in one area doesn't triangulate with the others, automatically the school is in requires improvement. It may be an area that bears no impact whatsoever on your child's education.

We have the double fun of finding out whether my son got into the local primary tomorrow, but then waiting until the following week to find out if we'll actually be living here to take up the place - husband's a junior doctor and if he doesn't get his first choice placement we will have to move at the end of July and could end up anywhere in England or Wales. So moving in the summer holidays and not able to apply for a transfer until then. It sucks. Good luck for tomorrow everyone!

Oh gosh! That doesn’t sound fun! My husband’s a doctor too (consultant now thank God!) and we don’t miss that time! Good luck!

I agree. My older 3 children have been to a range of schools. It was my experience of the 'outstanding' school that they would try to manage out children who seemed to be at risk of pulling their SATS scores down. And they were very non inclusive with any kind of SEN.

MiniEggsAllYear · 16/04/2023 09:13

Very nervous this morning! Late night tonight just in case they do come in at midnight. Really hoping they do because I don't feel like I'll get a good sleep if not!

Bigpinktrain · 16/04/2023 09:24

Hey 👋🏻
I live in east London and we get an email about 5pm tomorrow, it’s so parents have some time to cool down before calling the LA apparently.

Hoping my son gets in to the same school as his sister. It’s the only school I put down because the other local is far too academic for a primary school, also not as much care is put into music/art/PE which I feel is just as essential for a 4 year old!

I also agree with this. I preferred a local school rated 'good' to an 'outstanding' one close to me. The good school had a happier atmosphere. Plus schools can move up and down in the eyes of Ofsted. Another school local to me just went from 'outstanding' to 'requires improvement' for example and things can move in the other direction.

Namechange13101 · 16/04/2023 09:36

We’ve been told the same as you @Turtleoo emails by end of business on Monday and nothing on the portal until they’ve all been sent out 😭

mynameiscalypso · 16/04/2023 09:55

We're in London and have been told the emails will be sent out by tomorrow evening. My DH did the application so has the log in details which means that I can't repeatedly log in to check if they're early which is probably a good thing for my sanity!

Pinkgrass · 16/04/2023 10:02

From what iv heard ours come out at midnight on the portal. I hope so il be so disappointed if I stay up and nothing comes on!!

Also anxiously waiting!!! We've applied for out of catchment (just) and put our catchment down third. All are fine, but our option 1 was just amazing, had such a warm lovely feel to it. I will also be staying up until midnight. Good luck to all
