Anyone else nervously awaiting primary school offer day

Is anyone else nervously awaiting primary school offer day? My nearest school we are not in catchment for. Unfortunately, the catchment boundary is my back and side fence due to a wiggly catchment boundary.

The school we are in catchment for is 5 mins further walk away but doesn’t have a great reputation. I feel like my life is on hold until 19th April as I hope my DD gets into my preferred school. I’ve applied for DS to go to the nursery next to the school I would like to go to as I don’t want to be doing two different pick ups and drop offs in completely different locations each day!

Anyone in Kent had news yet? 😬

SurreyMumOfOne · 19/04/2022 12:39

Surrey uses the eadmissions website (I think the same as some London boroughs) and it said we won't hear until this evening.

I'm trying not to think about it and failing hence searched for this thread during lunch break.

prh47bridge · 19/04/2022 12:40

@PaddlingLikeADuck

I had to apply for my son’s place in writing as opposed to doing it online and this means I’ve got to wait up to another 5 days to find out where he’s going!!!

Oh the torture! Sad

Assuming you are in England, that is not acceptable. The Admissions Code is clear that, provided you applied on time, you should get your offer on National Offer Day. It doesn't matter whether you applied on the paper form or online. Complain loudly and point them at paragraph 2.12 of the Admissions Code.

@kirinm

London here so no news until this evening I don't think. I wasn't anxious about this at all - I have assumed we will get first choice due to proximity but I'm getting more worried now.

I'm still struggling with the idea of my still 3 year old going to school in 5 months time. She doesn't turn 4 until a day or two before school starts.

My daughter turned 4 in the last couple of days of august. Again she had been full time nursery since 7 months and she was fine at school. Teachers said there was no difference between her and the older ones.
Witchesbelazy · 19/04/2022 12:44

Does anyone know if its likely some can get their offers separately to the rest of the area loads of people in my childs nirsery have their place confirmation and my emails still mia and im waiting on a call from the admissions team to try and sort it. Worried an error has occured somewhere as I can't access the portal

Delphinous78 · 19/04/2022 12:45

I'm in Kent and nothing yet. I did see the council's blog post this morning about 90% of applicants getting their first choice. So fingers crossed!

bringonsummer2022 · 19/04/2022 12:46

Essex - got email at 1.28 this morning! They were really on the ball and we got our first choice (as expected, almost all of our local schools are undersubscribed)

BendingSpoons · 19/04/2022 12:49

@Witchesbelazy they have a huge volume of emails to send, so they won't all come at once. Hopefully you will get yours soon!

greengoblinhirl · 19/04/2022 12:53

Kent here- have been contacted directly by the school she has been offered, but no email/update from KCC themselves yet. (It's the school we want and I'm not sure I fully trust it yet GrinGrin)

Thank you the man i spoke to originally seemed to think i should have had it at midnight and my portal isn't working so im in anxious overdrive!

lobster12 · 19/04/2022 12:54
@lobster12 why is always one person who isn't happy. U got your first choice isn't that enough?!
Oh no I'm actually very happy and grateful. Not sure why you have assumed I'm not.

FolkSongSweet · 19/04/2022 13:00

@PaddlingLikeADuck why do you think you have to wait up to 5 days?

Our council website says that those who submitted paper forms will get a letter sent out today by first class post, so it should arrive by tomorrow. Does your local authority explain what they do?

simplesooze · 19/04/2022 13:03

@greengoblinhirl

Ohhh interesting

Horcruxe · 19/04/2022 13:06

Email came through around 10am.

Couldn't log into the portal, no option as it stated unable to log in and offers would be emailed.

Got my first choice so really happy!

Ours is pretty much the same - if you applied on paper they will write to you today (which presumably complies with the rules @prh47bridge explained) and only to contact them if you haven't heard by the 26th. Presumably because then it's in the hands of the Royal Mail they can't actually say exactly when it will arrive with you and it might take up to five days?

I think this is pretty much it. My council website doesn’t say whether the letters go out first or second class but says it may take up to 5-7 days so to contact them if I’ve not received a letter by the 26th.

Coldilox · 19/04/2022 13:18

Paddling, I was in the same situation, LA wouldn’t give me the info, said I had to wait for the letter. So I called my first choice school and they told me DS was on their list. Is this an option? (I know some schools are still on holiday)

Yes just read this! Sounds very promising but still nervous as hell, and 4pm can't come soon enough!!
Dcfabyty · 19/04/2022 13:27

In a London Borough so still waiting

HannahA92 · 19/04/2022 13:34

For those waiting in Kent, just had my email come through! Got my second choice, but I'm so happy!! Good luck to everyone still waiting!

PaddlingLikeADuck · 19/04/2022 13:40

Still half term over here Sad

I just hate waiting!!

FolkSongSweet · 19/04/2022 13:46

@PaddlingLikeADuck fingers crossed Royal Mail comes through and you find out in the morning!

I have refreshed the website so many times now even though it will apparently be “this evening”.

Budgieee · 19/04/2022 13:58

I just received an email from my first choice school saying:

Afternoon

When you receive your school offer today, please advise the school where your child will be attending in September

Thanks

What does this mean?! (I applied late)

Does it sound like we will be offered another school or our first choice?

SurreyMumOfOne · 19/04/2022 14:14

@Budgieee I couldn't say - it's really ambiguous and odd that they've contacted you directly, with an equally odd request. Surely they get notified centrally by the council!?!

Budgieee · 19/04/2022 14:27

Yeah very odd and I don’t understand it!
