Anyone else nervously awaiting primary school offer day

Is anyone else nervously awaiting primary school offer day? My nearest school we are not in catchment for. Unfortunately, the catchment boundary is my back and side fence due to a wiggly catchment boundary.

The school we are in catchment for is 5 mins further walk away but doesn’t have a great reputation. I feel like my life is on hold until 19th April as I hope my DD gets into my preferred school. I’ve applied for DS to go to the nursery next to the school I would like to go to as I don’t want to be doing two different pick ups and drop offs in completely different locations each day!

Wow 5pm! We are in Newham which is also quite big I think. Hope it doesn’t take that long.

immy7853 · 18/04/2022 11:07

I'm Suffolk, mine doesn't say what time, any ideas?

scandihouse · 18/04/2022 11:08

Waiting as well! It's for my youngest so am fairly confident she will get in. The school is ridiculously over subscribed and we were very lucky that my ds got in 2 years ago. I checked at midnight last time and it was up straight away - in Essex. Good luck everyone!

BendingSpoons · 18/04/2022 12:42

@FolkSongSweet it is deliberately 5pm in the whole of London. I think the reason is to let people calm down a bit before they can call up! So unfortunately no point checking throughout the day.

Someaddedsugar · 18/04/2022 12:52

Another one nervously waiting. We're looking to move but can't find a house so I didn't have a clue where to apply. I've gone for three schools near where we want to live in the hope that worst case scenario is we're allocated a school near us but have a new address and can be put on a school waiting list elsewhere. I know I'm crazy for doing this but thought it was worth a shot!

LaBelleSausage · 18/04/2022 16:02

Waiting here too. Apparently my local councils releases places on the portal 30 mins after midnight.

We are in catchment for first choice but live 375 metres from the school so wouldn't have got in for 2 out of the last 3 years.

Fingers crossed for everyone.
**@teadress* as Holidaylover20* says, it is about 5pm/6pm in London. I logged on to the portal to see. The email didn't come until about 8pm.
Yes - the pan-London area (all London boroughs and Surrey) is 5pm, when it goes live and they start sending out the emails. They have thousands of emails to send, so it can take a while for them to come through.

It's done late for the twin reasons of doing at the emailing at times when systems are otherwise quieter, and so that people have to wait befire ringing up, so are likely to have calmed down a bit

Goldenbunny · 18/04/2022 16:32

I'm so glad we not waiting. We already know where DS will be starting in September and have known for a while now has he's going to a special needs school.

winterrabbit · 18/04/2022 17:16

Also waiting although DS3 should get into our local school based on previous years. We are 0.32 away which has been in catchment all years for the last 10 years bar one which was a bumper year. Was 2018 definitely a low birth rate year? Also, did anyone receive any communication or form of acknowledgment once they submitted their online application? I did mine yonks ago in October and have had several panics that I didn't actually hit submit. When I check the portal it seems to have been submitted but not sure I received a confirmation email. Did anyone else? We are in Islington, North London.

berksandbeyond · 18/04/2022 17:18

I’ll be staying up til midnight tonight in the hope the portal updates then😅 if it doesn’t it will be a sleepless night I think 🙈 we are 0.3 miles from our first choice school so you’d think it would be a sure thing but it’s not!

Schoolchoicemission · 18/04/2022 18:07

@winterrabbit yes 2018 was the lowest birth year on record at the time:
www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/livebirths/bulletins/birthsummarytablesenglandandwales/2018

I received a confirmation email from the portal.

Thanks Schoolchoice. Are you in London? Worried now!

Ignore me. I just checked and I did receive a confirmation email :)

Schoolchoicemission · 18/04/2022 18:13

Yes @winterrabbit in east London. Email came from “[email protected]”. When I log into the portal it also confirms the date and time that my app was submitted so if yours has this info then I wouldn’t worry.

Travellingraspberry · 18/04/2022 18:30

@immy7853 I'm Suffolk too, from memory they update the online portal just after midnight so you should be able to check online then and think we got an email in the morning. Hoping it'll be the same this year!

APurpleSquirrel · 18/04/2022 18:53

We'll be staying up till midnight - am pretty confident DS will get our first preference school, but it's still a bit nerve-wracking.

mogkat · 18/04/2022 20:05

I'm another one who's going to be nervously checking tomorrow!
Feels like such a long time ago we applied and now we're nearly there. Once we know where he's going it makes it all so much more real that my baby is off to school in September.

Hotpinkangel19 · 18/04/2022 21:56

Getting nervous now! No sibling priority points here, they attended a different school. Just hoping we get our first choice as the catchment school let her 2 brothers down.

ThatsGoingToHurt · 18/04/2022 22:04

Im staying up until midnight. Trying to keep myself awake!

OP posts:
BobbinHood · 18/04/2022 22:08

We’ve got a very good chance of getting our first choice but I’m still anxious about it. Doesn’t help that a neighbouring local authority let people know their places today so loads of my friends already know and I’m still here stressing away. Really hope they go up after midnight.

littlebluetrain · 18/04/2022 22:12

Glad I live in Scotland! This sounds like one huge unnecessary hassle!

NickBWilliarms · 18/04/2022 22:53

How does it work in Scotland littlebluetrain?

Clairelucyr · 18/04/2022 22:53

I'm staying up until 12 too although fully expecting not to hear until 5pm! Good luck everyone!

Ohhgreat · 18/04/2022 23:26

Another one staying up til midnight! I really hope it's the news we want, no sibling priority here though we live very close so should be ok.....

Ohhgreat · 18/04/2022 23:55

Logged in 5mins early and we have an offer for our first choice! Phew :) good luck to everyone else waiting!
