Anybody taking the 7+ exam this year? I have noticed there isn't a thread on it this year. We are going to be trying for St Paul's and Kings. At the moment we are really struggling with the comprehension. Anybody else in the same boat?

@Shehr As we don’t have much time after school and the time is limited we will not be doing much.
I am very anxious about St Paul’s exam too.

I’m quite upset after my DS told me about how he did at Kings. His story is way below his usual standard and mistakes in maths are very possible too.
Will practice a little bit of VR, math and NVR.

Suspot · 16/11/2021 17:47

My DS sat for the 7+ exam on Saturday at Kings and we are not sure how it went...his feedback is a bit confusing Grin

we were amazed with the number of groups! Do you know how many groups for 7+? we know that there were also 8+ but we dont know how many groups per 7+ and 8+...

Nani72008 · 16/11/2021 17:56

I thought there 15 groups for 7+ but could be wrong! What did your ds think? Did he manage to finish the papers? Mine thought listening was v hard and maths hard too

2minutesplease · 16/11/2021 18:01

8+ groups were numbered 23-30, so I’m afraid 1-22 were 7+ boys ☹️

2minutesplease · 16/11/2021 18:05

Hi Suspot,
Will your DS be sitting other schools too?

Suspot · 16/11/2021 18:22

@2minutesplease, yes my DS will be going to the St Paul's too...A bit anxious to be honest after the Kings experience.

@Nani72008, I am not sure, but I believe the exam was quite hard in maths and listening for all kids... We will have to wait and see!

Suspot · 16/11/2021 18:25

Oh, I never got to see groups 16 -20 myself....it seemed like there was a gap? but someone I know did see groups 22 to 25 which they believed were for 7+...not sure though!

Nani72008 · 16/11/2021 18:29

@2minutesplease - thanks! It’s just that my son is towards the end of alphabet and he was group 15 so am perplexed as to where the other groups were?! Mystery!

Suspot · 16/11/2021 18:46

What a mystery indeed!

Is there someone out here that could throw a bit of light on this?
About Groups 16-25?
Were they 7+? 8+? maybe something different!

Thank you!

2minutesplease · 16/11/2021 19:43

Suspot, I think 16-22 were 7+ who were dropped off and picked up elsewhere. 23-30 were 8+ and it makes sense they are less numerous.

My DS is giving St Paul & Westminister 7+ Exam. After a long school day, not getting much time to prepare :(

Superworriedmum · 17/11/2021 22:11

My son was in group 15 of King's college.

His group was last

Curiousma · 18/11/2021 06:25

@Superworriedmum Same here. No time after a school long day. Anyway Most children has been preparing for a year or even two I don’t think preparation in last week will change anything unless you get a tip for the exam or learn something about exam you have not known before.

Superworriedmum · 18/11/2021 22:42

very true

Superworriedmum · 21/11/2021 10:08

Hello everyone, Any idea when to expect KCS result?

Shehr · 21/11/2021 10:11

I guess we will get the post by 25th if they are posting on 24th

Thank you for your reply

Good luck everyone!

Shehr · 21/11/2021 10:38

Does anyone know how much the school report/reference has a weight at St Paul's and Kings?

Curiousma · 21/11/2021 11:16

@Shehr I think nobody knows the answer for your question and I really wonder what will be the reply to your question. I heard that schools are trying to balance, type of children, feeder school intakes, ethnicity etc. For example they have a number for a feeder school on top of that even the children did better from the feeder school they don’t offer a place or they would like to balance between sporty children and library type, summer born, winter born etc that is what I heard I am not sure if it is completely correct.

Bikeproject · 21/11/2021 18:53

@Curiousma I think you're right that we'll never truly know. To add to your speculations, on summer born children, I'd say that the impression I got from my guided tour of King's was that it didn't seem a salient point for them. One parent asked about this topic and the answer was that about a third of the children who are offered a place are born after March. The headteacher seemed to say that this showed that their assessment process was not favouring older children/not putting younger children at a disadvantage. I took it to mean that the assessment process does not really look at date of birth.

Shehr · 22/11/2021 19:56

@Curiousma yes it feels the whole process can be a bit subjective especially at Kings who have three different kinds of assessments.

Do you know who are the feeder schools for St Paul's?

@Shehr , Wetherby Notting hill would be 1 feeder, 69 boys at 7 & 8+ in last 5 years according to their website.

Curiousma · 22/11/2021 20:36

@Shehr www.londonpreprep.com/2017/04/st-pauls-feeder-schools/

Shehr · 22/11/2021 21:06
