Anybody taking the 7+ exam this year? I have noticed there isn't a thread on it this year. We are going to be trying for St Paul's and Kings. At the moment we are really struggling with the comprehension. Anybody else in the same boat?

We have ours tomorrow.

Curiousma · 11/11/2021 20:46

Good luck to your DS for tomorrow.

Curiousma · 11/11/2021 20:55

Most of it was playing. The children also did maths and draw a garden.

2minutesplease · 11/11/2021 23:14

Thank you Curiousma! I’ll share our experience tomorrow. And good luck to your DS on Saturday!

2minutesplease · 12/11/2021 12:47

Hi everyone,
My DS came back from his group activity morning. Feels like all groups have slightly different tasks- he had a math problem to solve with 2 other boys and then design a playground with one other boy. No complicated stuff asked (from what I heard 8+ activity was pretty tough with lots of writing and math!).

Jesse21plus · 12/11/2021 14:44

Was there a group activity yesterday afternoon as well?

2minutesplease · 12/11/2021 15:16

Afternoon was for 8+ candidates.

Jesse21plus · 12/11/2021 15:47

Oh thank you! completely forgot there were 8+ running the same process as well

Curiousma · 12/11/2021 16:05

Good luck to everyone for tomorrow.

Curiousma · 12/11/2021 16:11

Does anyone know how many applicants this year for Kings ?

2minutesplease · 12/11/2021 19:15

I asked about number of applications at parent’s morning but the new Head didn’t disclose this info. St Paul’s advised that there are about 350 applicants per 54 places so I imagine should be about the same.

Curiousma · 12/11/2021 20:14

Thank you very much for your reply.

Nani72008 · 13/11/2021 13:57

Hi all, how did your ds find the exam? My august born ds found it quite hard esp the maths and listening 😬.

2minutesplease · 13/11/2021 14:11

Mine too, and he said there were no NVR!! What do your DC say, I hope he hadn’t missed the whole paper!

Nani72008 · 13/11/2021 14:27

Yes- no nvr. Sounds like they haven’t done nvr in a few years now. We have only applied to KCJS as we are local so at least we are done now and I can try to forget about it. Unlikely though! Such a gruelling process.

Lolakath19 · 13/11/2021 14:28

Mine said that verbal reasoning was extremely hard and long (he did 2out 4 pages) and maths very long (he only did 3 out of 5 pages). He said no creative writing for english (maybe he missed it).

Shehr · 13/11/2021 14:29

My DS found it quite hard too especially the reasoning. He was saying the story was about finding an alien in your bedroom. He wasn't too sure about it. Did your DS say anything about it?

Nani72008 · 13/11/2021 14:39

I heard story was about an alien. Didn’t ask too much to be honest! A bit afraid to ask. Looked like about 15 boys in each group? I think the papers seem to be getting harder each year from what I hear. And now for the tortuous wait…

Jesse21plus · 13/11/2021 15:14

We entered the coach park entrance and there are at least 15 groups. Not sure any other entrance for 7+

Curiousma · 13/11/2021 15:29

My DS said there were two comprehensions one picture comprehension and the other one about a bear and they had to do both.
Also there were two writing tasks and again they had to do both one description and the other alien story. It was hard to complete both.

Shehr · 13/11/2021 15:48

@Curiousma can you check with your DS what the alien story was about? My DS is saying it was about finding it in your bedroom. I really hope he hasn't messed it up by not reading the instructions correctly.

Also my DS is saying in the description task of the writing, they had said to write at least three sentences so he just wrote three and moved on to the story. Again great if anyone else can corroborate that so I can stop fretting!

Curiousma · 13/11/2021 15:55

@Shehr Yes, it was about finding alien in your bedroom and 3 sentences description.

Shehr · 13/11/2021 16:11

@Curiousma thank you x

I heard from my ds there were quite a lot maths questions and really hard to finish

Curiousma · 13/11/2021 16:46

@Jesse21plus apparently it was an harx exam for all parts. Were your DS able to finish his comprehension and writing? My DS said it was not possible to finish both comprehension and writing in the given time for him.
